Well, to start off, Final Fantasy does not hold a candle story wise to any of the previous games so I would most likely not count that. Personally, I did not connect with the characters in Dragon Age as much as I did in Mass Effect. They are so much more relatable and humane. If you were to chooses one, I would choose Mass Effect :)

Depends what you like more. Sci fi shooter, or Fantasy rpg with a hefty does of strategy. Both have well told stories and interesting characters, but the settings are vastly different. Also, for whatever it's worth, DA 2 was awful whereas all the Mass Effects are considered good.

Best story driven rpg? No.
Very good story driven rpg? Sure, just don't play 3 if you feel attached to the characters after playing 1 and 2. If you don't feel attached, then go ahead and play the third one.

I'd say dont play both 2 and 3 or at least play 2 before 1 because 1st one is more RPGish 2nd is basicly just a 3d person shooter. I wouldn't say its like what they did with Dragon age 2 but it's close to it.

Out of those, I loved Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2--I thought they were the best out of the bunch. I didn't particularly like/care for Dragon Age II, Mass Effect had dated mechanics but still has a good story, and Mass Effect 3 had a very dissapointing ending. The extended ending makes it better, but still not ideal.

I havent been this deeply involved and connected to a series of games for a while now. Mass effect was able to do that, too bad i eventually sold all of them so this trilogy is a great way to spend the holidays. I played a little dragons age but couldn't get into it for some reason.

Mass effect trilogy is giving you agrenteed bang for your buck. The first one is the best imo because its the most like an RPG. But that being put aside, they all have a story, all are lengthy, working about 24-30 hours each for a casual playthrough. so essentially for the money you would spend, you are getting a full experiance divided into three chapters. I say get this.
