I don't understand why killing Winterson was Max's biggest regret. He knows she was involved with Vlad and his plan and also that she was going to kill him and Mona.

I get that Max and Winterson were two sides of the same coin, two seemingly good cops that became romantically involved with criminals and killers. I just don't understand why Max feels that much regret over Winterson when Mona had his back to the end. Also why he is building her up to be a better cop than she was especially since she went out with the intent to commit murder.

Was this addressed at all in 3? I don't think so.

    Does Max really feel regret?

He felt regret in Max Payne 2 and he says killing her was a horrendous mistake in Chapter 8 of Max Payne 3. It goes into even more depth in the free comics that were written as a prequel 3.

    Winterson had a son, too.

The son was blind or something right?

Correct, blind and if I remember right, had a deadbeat for a father, so it makes sense how Max would feel regret over killing Winterson even though she would've put a 9mm antidepressant right in the back of both Max and Mona's heads, he made the boy an orphan, not just an orphan, a disabled one.

And then again you have to consider that Max had his family taken away from him, well in killing Winterson, he took the family away from another.

That's understandable when you put it that way, but I don't remember the deadbeat of a father being mentioned before in MP2 or in the MP3 comics, where was that?

I forgot about her involvement with Vlad, but I have to wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that she seemed to be watching out for Max (unless I missed something the few times I played MP2). Whenever he was caught working with Mona, Winterson always seemed to support him, and the only sticking point was that he'd keep going back to Mona. Even Winterson's fate was influenced by Max's conflict between his allegiance to the NYPD and his loyalty to Mona; yeah, she might have been going hard after Mona to protect Vlad, but it's not like Mona was on the right side of the law to begin with.

tl;dr I feel Winterson was imperfect, like Max, and I can understand his regret.
