Medal of Honor's latest set of downloadable content adds new game modes and maps to the shooter's online multiplayer mode.
EA's Medal of Honor may have only been out for a few weeks, but it has already managed to clock up an impressive 2 million units in sales. The megapublisher shows no sign of letting these players go without DLC, either. Two new DLC packs launched this week--Clean Sweep and Hot Zone. The former is free, and the latter costs 800 MS points on the Xbox 360 and $9.99 on the PS3 and PC. We got to play both game types at a recent EA London preview event to find out what's included in the packs and how they play online.
Multiplayer producer Patrick Liu was on hand to talk us through the new additions. Clean Sweep is a new mode where death means you have to wait until the next round to respawn. This means that battles are tense and fraught, and developer Dice has had to come up with a way to combat campers. The solution is that if players stay still for too long, their location will be shown to the rest of the players on the map. This mode includes two new maps--Bagram Hanger and Khyler Caves--as well as repurposed versions of existing maps, Shaikhot Base and Helmand Valley Base.
Hot Zone is for all intents and purposes the old king-of-the-hill mode, where both teams have to try to hold a single position the longest. This made for some intense battles when we played, with a concentrated area of gunfire and rockets bombarding the capture zones. This pack includes a couple of new maps in the form of Hindukush Pass and Korengal Outpost and again tweaks existing maps, Shahikot Mountains and Helmand Valley, to accommodate the new game mode.
It's interesting that one of these modes is being charged for, while the other isn't, but it's good to see substantial new DLC being offered for free either way. Liu claims that Dice is going to keep supporting the game, with more patches on the way. On the consoles, Liu claims that a lot of fixes are being made on the server side to improve online performance, while on the PC, some maps have been tweaked to combat spawn camping, while the sniper rifle is being tweaked because it was too powerful. We'll keep an eye out for more Medal of Honor downloadable content, but in the meantime, you can find both Clean Sweep and Hot Zone available online now.
I do love MoH, I think they rushed it a little, to be honest. Aside from the occasional loading screen hang up online, its just different. I would honestly say that MoH and Black ops took two different routes. I love Combat mission but there needs to be more maps for that and TDM.
black ops is sh*t.... totally sh*t ...everyone i know that bought it returned it ... i had the sense to lend it rather then buy it, MOH is way better in terms of story and mission lay out ...wldnt say its better then COD 1 & 2 but wld deffo put it in the same class...... y yall hat*ng jus cos its not a COD ....Trey*rch shld stop making games and shld get shut down, they basically copy the previous cod in terms of graphis etc and slap it in the passed World at War - and Black Ops arent with the disks they sold on - and come on black ops online - please - then again i suppose each to they own - varity is better then nuttin
The best thing you can do with MOH is swap it for something else. Black Ops or GT5. Or Rag Dolls Kung Fu.
Sad to say but MOH is not in CODs class so please stop comparing them. For those who actually play Black Ops and are honest then theres no doubt this game is not in its class. Not even in Bad Companys class.
I find the mere scope of the maps on MOH are a huge change from COD. The game play is similar, but i like the reward system on MOH. It gives you more points based on working together as a squad instead of camping and lone wolfing. Its still an option, but you wont get as many points. I find the sound and the weapon response better on MOH instead of COD.
Has anyone checked whether the MOH DLC had the same issues than any EA DLC (Onslaught, 1943) or not? I mean being kicked constantly.
from what I can see it seems to be a pretty good game, although I don't have adequate funds to get it, there are just so many fps on the market to chose.
The Offical PSMAG gave it a 8. I agree. Solid game with a ton of fun. Much different first person and online than what is out there.
I like the game, but they are really going to do a add-on just a few weeks after the actual game was released? I mean really?! No.... just no.
I actually like Medal of Honor and have been enjoying it no matter what class I play as. Hopefully these tweaks only enhance the game. We'll see.
Ok, got excited for a moment, then remember why I deleted this game after a demo and went back for BFBC2... don't think that lack of destruction, small maps, bad interface, low amount of vehicles and overall BFBC2-light version copy feeling won't go away if you throw in a few more maps or rarely used game modes.
I dont agree with all the camping comments for this game. Compared to other FPS I think this game makes playing any class a satisfying experience. Unfortunately for some, you have to actually think tactically about that class you choose and how you use them. I know this is different from COD where you can do well just running around and shooting. The sniper gun might me a little powerful, but you will have more success against them if you think tactically and use the other classes in the right way. This game should only be played in hardcore mode, and that is why I am still having fun playing it and the FREE DLC. I think there is more scopre to be a skilled player in this than any other FPS I have played. BO's looks like a game with every trick in the box thrown at it, to cover up the grind. This game takes you back to the fun you can have with out all the tricks, just you and your class.
Maybe, just maybe, I would get this DLC if they made a huge patch that fixed all of the bugs and glitches. Other wise, I won't be buying this.
@Moneyballzs, no, I would rather have it all on one disc. I see your point, but I never bought MOH, and if you expect me to shell out $60 it better damn well be worth playing over and over and over again.....
EA/DICE DLC's never work, they kick you constantly from the game. These guys are greedy and unprofessional.
@purepl7ya, You're joking right? you cant stand a game you bought getting support and being kept fresh? instead you'd rather pay $60 and get the same experience over and over and over and over.......
Still too expensive for what has obviously been developed in tandem with the main game so it could be released early. Having a good time with the other maps/modes and would like the DLC, but not at that price. Matter of principle.
@mikees1 i bought Medal of Honour and loved the campaign, multiplayer was amazing until everyone started using sniper class... and then camping soon followed! possibly the worst game for campers in the world, and do not believe the rumours of no camping on DLC maps!
Oh good, a camper unfreindly game.Thats the reason i do not like CoD much.Camping one trick ponies ruin the game. They suck at using anything other than a sniper rifle where as i try and use all the different classes
