Traditional Mega Man gameplay in a one on one fighting game.

The Bottom Line:
"Just plain fun"
Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters feels part fighting game and part shoot em up.The gameplay uses the mechanics from the traditional Mega Man games such as 2D gameplay, being able to shoot rapidly, being able to charge up your weapon for a powerful shot, being able to perform wall jumps which are needed so you can dodge enemies and their attacks.

The gameplay consists of 1 on 1 battles against certain enemies and you can select Mega Man or another of a bunch of characters. An interesting feature about this game is after you defeat an opponent, your health doesn't refill to full because you're supposed to not get hit by enemy attacks just like in the traditional Mega Man games.Enemies will drop energy balls that will refill your heath and unless you're a very good player you'll need to pick them up whilst dodging their attacks. The game can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be because if you continue after you lose the battle will pick up immiediately after you died and the CPU enemy won't have their health restored but you will, however since this game was originally released as an arcade game and has only been released as an arcade game you're supposed to beat the game using 1 credit but you can use as many credits as you want to beat the game if you're willing to spend your money unless you downloaded it for free like I did.

Just like in the traditional Mega Man games, you'll need to learn the patterns of enemy attacks, sometimes their physical and projectile attack patterns seem simple enough to dodge, but when they start using walls of flame which come moving towards you and then follow it up with other attacks or put obstacles in the environment that can damage you the timing process becomes very delicate and the game becomes very challenging.

Most importantly, the game is fun and feels unique but trying to beat the game on one credit is very hard.

The visuals are nice in an anime-style,Japanesey way(keep in mind this game was released back in 1996).Despite it being a Japanese game, the artstyle can still give a good,industrial/futuristic feel to environments whilst combining it with the charm of Japanese style visuals, and the visuals have the right amount of color to have charm without being overly colorful.

I can't remember much about the music to be honest.

Overall the game is fun, unique, has a nice artstyle and is very playable but is a bit too hard for my liking.
