I really wanted to like this game.
I really did.
I spent $10 of my hard earned money on this game, all I did was ask it to be fun, and what does it do?
It spits in my face.
This is the most frustrating, difficult game I have ever played. And by the way, I've beaten some really hard games in my day, like F-Zero GX's story mode and Gunstar Super Heroes on hard difficulty. At least those games were fun enough to keep me enthralled. All the enemies, platforms, jumps, and stages in Mega Man 9 are all designed to make you break your controller in agony. There are 9 stages to go through, and they are all incredibly difficult to beat. The game looks nonlinear, but you pretty much have to beat the game in a certain order to beat all the bosses....not that I was even able to GET to any of the bosses. This game does not mess around. Spikes kill you with one hit. The jumping is hard to stick landings with, and all the enemies want to annihilate you at all costs. I understand why they decided to forgo shooting up , but it's still REALLY annoying.
In a good game like metroid, you can shoot in all directions and explore without everything trying to kill you. But in this game, no, It basically says "Oh, so you want to play....well you're going to have to memorize each stage, each jump, and what pattern to go through. Isn't this fun?" . It brings back painful memories of when games were hard, so hard that they weren't enjoyable.
That's a perfect word for this game, un-enjoyable. It just brings pain, malice, and evil. Stay away, stay far, far away. I can think of 7000 more fun things to do with $10, like eating lightbulbs. Or Sitting on a burning stove top for an hour. Or watching a blank white wall. Save yourself $5 and download mega man 2 off the virtual console. It's equal the pain for half the price.
