Honestly at first I wasn't sure what to think of X3, but the more I played it the more it grew on me. When I purchased the game I never played it before and had it beat within 72 hours but that was just getting used to it. I haven't known all the secrets at the time and took me a while to learn the secrets of the game.

X3 gets credit for having the best/most secrets in an X game. That special chip that gives you all special abilities just leaves me begging for a pork chop swinging from a string like a puppy dog starring hungry through the eyes of a clear restaurant window.

I'll huff and puff and blow down any game collection that doesn't include X4!

The modern game with so much more content for the price has pretty much killed off shorter games like this, hasn't it? I suppose there are still some that pop up now and then though. I wonder if we'll ever see a new Megaman X in the same spirit of the download only 'classic design' newer Megaman games.

In my experience a lot of that content for modern games isn't that great and feels more like filler. X4 had awesomeness written all over from the intro stage all the way to the final hit on Sigma. X4 does so many things right, it's amazing more people aren't sharing their love here on this board. Just blurting out "I LOVE YOU!" or something crazy :p

I suppose that can be true but to what extent content is enjoyable or degrades into filler depends on personal preference. For example I absolutely love the N64 Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 games but for many others games like that are extraordinarily tedious with their collectathon structure.

Speaking of collectible-type games, after many grueling hours and several moments of yelling bad words at the TV screen, I can finally feel relief that I finished Skyward Sword, the newest Zelda game. The only thing worse than doing a boss battle the wrong way is when you swing your sword madly and believe that's enough to win... and finding out the hard way it's not, and you're exhausted :p

X4 will find itself on your bedroom floor one day, when you're away. It'll literally fly on the floor and wait for your arrival so you can question how it got there :p

My copy is right where I left it after I played it the last time, with computer discs in our living room.

Sadly not long after I got it it took a tumble and the one of the case hinges broke, so the case often comes apart when opening it. That's a random fact, but one this made me remember!

I hate when that happens. Dropping the case almost guarantees it'll be screwed up. Cheap plastic!

    I haven't played X1 or X2 yet so..

X3 was ok. It was fun and unique in it's own way.

X4 was almost perfect except the fact it was focus more on Zero. You know the joke that X complained that the game was named after him but the story was more about Zero.

I beg to disagree with you about X5. By far it's the best in my opinion and I know a lot of people agree to this. It introduced a lot of good things like crouching, more than 1 armor, you can get the Ultimate Armor and Black Zero legally and a whole lot more. My only gripe about this game is that I kinda miss the anime cutscenes of X4 as I find the still images boring.

X6 is a good game gone wrong. Ugly character sprites, difficulty turned too high. But beating it and the introduction of Gate is a good consolation for it.

    Haven't played X7 and X8 too much.

Command Mission is a good game, an underrated game I might add. But it takes a while for you to digest X's new look. It would have been better if the battle system was like in MML1 and 2.

I like the animé cutscenes like I like some of the more cheesy episodes of the original Star Trek.

Play X1 and X2 as soon as you can! These games rock the boat, the cradle, and the potato sack!

    X4 is very average.
Frost Walrus and Cyber Peacock are the only interesting levels, I admit that Split Mushroom also has some moments, but the rest of the stages are very generic. Magma Dragoon is maybe the worst, 75% of the stage is just about dodging magma meteors.
The boss battles commutes from average to good, but nothing outstanding.
Most of the uncharged weapons seems very weak.
The fortress levels are just half-stages, they're so short.

Capcom underutilized the Playstation's capabilities when created this game. X2 offers a lot more, and that's just a SNES game.

Hey now! Alright your final two points are agreeable. The weapons are sort of weak and I admit the gorgeous graphics/animations cleverly hide this aspect (at least for me) and you're 100% right that the fortress levels are way too short and don't take advantage of the concept very much, but these are complaints so super minor that I just want to pick up and cuddle a cactus :p

By far the replay value is my favorite aspect of this game (and series). For many modern games you need to put many hours into a game to beat it, but what may be a huge weakness to some (that this is a short game) is also something that makes it easier to just come back to now and then over the years.
  • Aug 28, 2012 12:46 am GMT
That's right. This game takes only a little over an hour to complete so if that episode of Law and Order is a repeat, guess what- popping this game in your PS will no longer make 1-hour reruns feel like you wasted your time turning the TV on :p
  • Sep 6, 2012 11:22 pm GMT
and never watch Law & Order either- every episode is essentially the same :p
