People didn't like him because they were expecting to play as Snake.

In retrospective, he's a complex character with probably the most fleshed out backstory and a real character arc.

Being a badass cyborg adds to his character, but he's still the same Raiden who took Olga's H.F Blade at the end of MGS2 and started slicing stuff up.

Before that he was more or less just following a script that was written for him by the Patriots. It was that definitive moment in Arsenal Gear that made him the Raiden he's now.

Always liked Raiden, didn't mind Snake not being playable because it was as if we were crime fighting partners instead of just playing as Snake himself).

I also really like the direction they went with him, but at the same time it wasn't unexpected. He did get the HF blade in MGS2 to differentiate himself from Snake. The next Cyborg Ninja he was ALWAYS destined to be.

I actually really sympathise with him, he's literally just a face and a spine. Everything else is robotic. Imagine the operation procedure *barfs*.
Wasn't sure about him going back to war though after MGS4's ending, however i read the backstory to this game and it does make sense so my fears were eased.

Couldn't be more happy. I actually didn't mind playing him in MGS 2, as I think he is a more interesting character than Snake.

Raiden's my favorite character, loved him in MGS2. I'm glad he's getting his own game.

Yes, Raiden was my favorite character in MGS2. And he has stayed that way through 4 and now MGR;R

I like the new gameplay and everything, fits the cyborg ninja style flawlessly!

And we get Ground Zeroes for the classic gameplay!

I'd say he's definetly a huge improvement over his original apearance, the only time i really liked him in mgs2 was when he was with Emma, the two of them had a really good chemistry and they filled the gaps in each other that was otherwise making them meh characters

MGS4 he went from whiney pawn to emo overcompensater, from what i've played/seen revengance seems to be where he's his own character with his own ideals

Just for a random comparison, when they brought Nero in to 70% replace Dante in DMC4, he was handled alot better in both awareness to the fans he's what you're get'n & as a character he had a better personality (rarely whiney at times) I think Raiden would've gone over better had Kojima not thrown him in with no warning while hiding in a cardboard box giggling

I like that he's struck out on his own. Up until now he has been a pawn used by the Patriots, and then repaying favours to Snake. Now, as mentioned above, he has his own ideals, giving even more potential for fleshing him out and further character development.

I am not. Truth be told, in MGS2 he was everything he needed to be for the story to work. In MGS4, he's an overcompensating "badass" that says dumb, forced lines ("I am Jack no more"; makes other characters says dumb, forced lines ("You were the lightning in that rain"; and prompts scenes of major stupidity (tanking arsenal gear, shooting lightning at the guards).

I'm assuming Revengeance's direction as a game is the same as its title: incredibly dumb, action-oriented, and not serious. MGS to me has ended anyway, so Kojima can do anything he wants.

MGS is serious? Let me use my bee gun for a second, or uncover a soldier with diarrhea in a barrel. Just look at Kojima's recent trailer for MGS5 its pretty crazy. And also Snake's old man voice throughout MGS4 sounded pretty bad (war has changed.. go to bed old man). I mean I enjoyed MGS games but people who claim they are serious must ignore half the games. They are meant to be fun, have easter eggs, and a crazy story.

It's like people's ability to think rationally is being clouded by their hype whenever they claim that Phantom Pain is MGS5.

It's just as plausible as Kojima developing MGS2 and MGS3 at the same time. How are you going to create a superior sequel if the prologue isn't even out yet?

    You don't.

Ground Zeroes isn't classic, it's open world with drivable vehicles.
