It honestly was that this game was total crap, but after seeing people on the forums saying it just takes getting used to I decided to give it another chance. Man am I glad I did, this game is absolutely amazing once you understand its mechanics more. I can not say how many times I probably died figuring out how to properly kill anything, but now that I have the game comes off as almost too easy. And I wouldn't care if it was, it's amazing slicing dudes heads off and then ripping them apart.

I was mad at the demo at first haha. I blamed mt skill and practiced parrying and counters until I got the hang of it. The demo is a blast now, hard to play it since we're so close.

It is, I just started feeling this way tonight. Got through one of the sections with an S ranking and it felt amazing. The demo almost seems too short now that I'm not dying all over haha!

This game feels like it's designed for me lol.
I jumped right into the demo loving every bit of it. The parry felt particularly natural to me.
Can't wait for this game.

I often find that people are too stubborn to change their minds, and they especially don't like to admit it... especially on the internet.
I'm glad that you gave it another chance. I've had a blast just playing the demo over and over. Usually I don't even play it all the way through now. I just re-start the first battle and kill those first three soldiers repeatedly. Fun stuff.
EDIT:

Hahaha that's hilarious. I've been saying that since I saw the first trailer. I don't play action games (like DMC or GoW) and I don't play Metal Gear games, but the cutting mechanic just made me giddy. I'm so relieved that it's every bit as fun and easy to control as I hoped. Platinum Games know what they're doing.

At first I thought the cutting mechanic was very awkward and hard to control. It did take some getting used to, but now I use it without even thinking about it. Was also horrible at stealth, or what could be called stealth. And the walking mechs, or cow mechs, or whatever they're called would tear me apart. I pretty much tear them apart now.

My initial impressions were mild but pretty positive. However, playing the demo and realizing how much it plays like Vanquish totally made me love this game. It's so freaking stylish especially with Blade Mode cancelling.

Firstly, its great that you changed your mind and don't mind admitting that you were wrong, well done, but I don't understand why you'd ever say a game was "total crap" based purely on your own inability to grasp the basic mechanics. I'd never blame a game for my own suckage.

On first impressions with the MGR demo, it's hard to tell that it's your own inexperience with the mechanics causing problems. It's quite different from most games in the genre in the sense that there are no one-touch block or dodge commands. A change like that can be quite disorienting, and will at first feel like a bad design choice instead of just a difference to be learned.

More or less, yeah.
I share your experience, TC. I was excited when I DL'd the demo, didn't really know much about it except it had the slow-mo cutting mechanic and it was "Raiden with a sword by Platinum"... and at first I was like... eh? I feel like a simple movelist in the menu screen would've helped this demo.
But yes, when you get the hang of it it's excellent. Excitement restored!

My first impressions weren't that strong either, but not persevering was never an issue for me. It did initially feel like it had been over-hyped, but it's a demo that gets better the more you play it.
At first the controls and precision for blade mode in particular feel unintuitive and unwieldy, and the dodge feels strict and unreliable. Those things don't last once you've had a little time to adapt to them, however.
It's not without its problems though. The camera is seriously flawed due to its refusal to pan out and its minute draw distance behind and to the sides of the character, and primarily to it's awful performance around walls and corners. It's also buggy as hell and graphically unimpressive.
Lastly; pure no-damage, zandatsu everything S rank runs tend to be frustrating (particularly in the Bladewolf fight) because of camera performance, enemy behaviour and the tendency of zandatsu to sometimes randomly and arbitrarily fail.

My initial impression was that it was fun, but not amazing.
Then after about 3-4 playthroughs I realized it actually is amazing.
Now after at least 30-40 playthroughs I realize it has potential to be one of the best games I've played in a long time. But final judgement on that will have to wait obviously.
