I've been a fan of P* for a while now, but I don't understand why they didn't make "tap R2 = dodge". They've had some of the fastest most awesome dodges with Bayonetta and Vanquish...but now? []+x is pretty meh. They already know how to program dodges, why don't they just add tap R2 in?

Because this game is not about Dodging, it's about Parrying. Dodging is an optional skill you can buy just like Parrying was an optional skill in Bayonetta.

buy? So we can eventually do a *real* dodge? Is this truly confirmed? If so my faith has been renewed. Now I only hope you can buy it early enough in game. Will there be a new game + like bayo too unlike Vanquish?

Except this game is about cutting, true swordplay. Instead of dodge you get parry/block. Forces you to always watch the enemy and counter. plus you can use Square + X to dodge, change direction by using Analog stick.

    It's a joke, man. >_>

But yes, I have played action games on hard. Did I ever complete them? Well...some of them. Bayonetta and DMC I haven't completed on hard though.

But seriously. Dodging would seem to be pointless in this game, since you can parry whenever you want. So there's no real reason to dodge.

Because not every action game needs to be about dodging.

I also like how the black/parry keeps you more actively involved unlock Ninja Gaiden's block where it kinda encourages turtling around foes.

Also, action games are ALWAYS a grab-bag with what defensive measures you actually get.

Not even DMC has a proper "Block" option. You gotta move. Or hey! Parry! Imagine that.

I personally prefer to parry. Keeps me engaged and feels satisfying. I wouldn't count dodging out just yet, though. MGRR has already exceeded many of my highest expectations.

Dodging is used for I-Frames like untechable grabs, moving into a prime position, dancing around enemies, staying offensive while being defensive.

No No No, that dodge is the one that you buy lol. If you don't like it well the game ain't for you. The concept for Raiden in this game is a person who doesn't like to dodge. He's constantly moving forward and with Parry you are constantly on the offensive and you are basically defending yourself with another attack. That is what P* decided to do with Raiden.

Dodging in MGR is hardly ever worth it anyways, unless you're trying to avoid getting surrounded by Soldiers and a Gekko trying to stomp on you.

Parry deals with most things except maybe Grenades (I forget how to deal with those).

Or let them just bounce off of your body back to the enemy, done this a few times, it's quite entertaining.

Ok I think I see what you're saying. I guess my expectations were based on the fact that P* makes their characters fast and agile and I tend to associate that with being able to quickly maneuver away from trouble. Blocking and/or partying like a tank is something I tend to associate with American developers. Oh well, it's not bad...just unexpected. Thanks for your time in explaining stuff to me.

fyi, I typed parry...ing but auto correct changed it to partying. GAHHHHH!

If they made dodge that easy then the parry system will vastly be overlooked by the masses. I think they were smart to make dodge the way it is in this game so that people can take full advantage of the combat system.

It's a nice method, I like doing that, just discovered it today. Always knocked em back or ninja ran before. Much easier to just walk into em and bounce them off.
