why oh why have they changed it to this utterly awful looking hack n slash. the original rising looked ace, i think worst of all is the story now not being set between 2 and 4, that was such a perfect setting to do, if platinum games couldnt place it in that setting then they shouldnt have got the game. they keep saying their working together but all i see is awful hack n slash, everything platinums games' way and just stole raiden, seriously what is kojima productions input..... i dont think PG are up to the task, look at the trailer, all of it looks terrible but when raiden runs at the ray it swings its arm straight through the building next to it like MAGIC!? and raidens sheath isnt even touching his back, oh and no mo-cap!!?? wow no wonder this sucks so bad. hey kojima you just lost a life long MGS fan, i wont be buying this game and its really putting me off playing the HD collection...loss loss

" cheap lazy hack and slash..." sirkarl1, I think you may be right. There are layers of detail, and very unique aspects of MGS games, all the way from controls and gameplay to story and challenges. Even just the original trailer is leagues ahead of the Platinum games version, in terms of style, movement, colors, etc. I'm thinking it will be something like Devil May Cry 3, another Platinum games title, which was extremely linear, and limited in terms of gameplay, even though it was sometimes exciting and had great graphics, it boils down to a generic hack and slash.

so because the team were taking longer and weer having difficulties he canned wat sounded like an amazing cool game and decided to make it nothin like mgs and just make it a cheap lazy hack and slash...

the original idea was brilliant they should have stuk with that, the graphics were way better the gameplay was classice mgs with a twist, and now they have ruined it in my opinion definately wont be getting this game... just looks like a cheap DMC

Vanquish is a 10. Japan created modern gaming as we know it and it will lead the way into a renaissance that will leave this stale FPS, action RPG nonsense in it's wake. I already see it happening.

Playing a character from Cobra Unit during the Invasion of Normandy would be amazing. Executing a stealthy special op from behind enemy lines, taking out pillboxes and dismantling the Reich's fortifications and such.

@JJB03 I've just ordered the HD Collection. Going to re-live the good old days. Gray Fox was by far the most badass, loved that fight from one.

I'm Giving them Credit, It's Not easy To get Everything Cutting, See Frostbite Engine 2.0 It's is a Standard Areas to be destoryed Even though you wanted another result of it, But this one needs to be on a Accurate on the Slice which was way harder, Well... Pretty sad that the First one is down let's hope the new one does the better

@moleman988 I completly agree about making a game about gray fox that would be so awesome, I'd pay good money to play that as long as platinum games does'nt touch it lol My favourite has to be The Fear because there are sooooo many vairiouse ways to defeat him but The end also comes really close to the top spot because you can defeat him by taking to long to fight him lol

i'm glad most are on the same page as me about it being a horrible move to ditch the fox engine for the platgames engine. the first couple of trailers looked great gameplay wise, really creative and exciting. it just looks so generic now, raiden w/ the katana in mgs2 seems like more fun than this bs. dmc and bayonetta were great games, but it's a played out formula and they really had a chance to be innovative with this one... lol through my first playthrough of mgs4 i was hoping snake would get a hold of a katana! i do understand that this game is about action and not stealth, but the original control/gameplay setup looked great with that watermelon cutting demo, ultra-realistic and slick with none of that bs flashy colors and whatever effects flying after raiden hits someone with his sword... and why are there groups of soldiers trying to kill raiden with machetes??? how much more generic does it get than that? i thought one of the main points of raidens cyborg character was his ability to wipe out mobs of organized gun toting soldiers and mechs with strategy and acrobatics? ughh i wish i was put to work on this game i would turn it back into what it's supposed to be! mgs4 cutscenes look better than this..okay i'm done whining now but does anyone agree with me here??

@JJB03 You make some valid points and I agree that Hideo is clutching at straws. Something isn't right with the development. You can sort of see it in the video, I wonder if Hideo will give Platinum another game to develop. I would have liked to see a game with Grey Fox as the main character. Loved him MGS 1, would have given the gamer a cooler character and an interesting story. Each to their own I guess, the same reason is possibly why I like MGS 1 because that's the game I played first but like you said I too probably played MGS 3 more. What's your Fav boss?

@moleman988 I admire your trust in Mr hideo and your optimisium of the title but I feel with this video things went terriably wrong with this title and hideo in now grasping at straws and fed up with trying to fix this game so just plonked it on to platium's hands to make a quick fun slash' em up with the metal gear tacked on and an horrible story, tbf he just gave it to other people to do anyway so he's probably more dissapoited with his team and is doing this to get a release in. Lol most people do give me that reaction how they reckon mgs2 was probably the weakest outing because of the infamous riaden how ever moany raiden was i stilll enjoyed the bosses and overall gameplay and just let Mr raidens doucheness go over my head for the most part. I guess really mgs3 should be on my number one podium because i did play that alot more but mgs2 just sparked my absolute facination with mgs so you cnt blame me really :P

@JJB03 I understand the issues people have with this game, I'm also a little sceptical about how this game will be in every mechanic from story to actual controller layout. I really can't wait to find out though, I'm interested because it's a bold step from Hideo. Though Hideo is not in control, he's got a presence over the game. I've got a feeling the reason it's taking so long is because he himself is not happy with the production.What I'm wondering, Is this game going to be a creative masterpiece or the game that will not be spoken? Also, Metal Gear Solid 2! You're mad man hahaha. I too enjoyed MGS 2 and played through it numerous times but I was happy when they brought subsistence out. Just gave the player so much to do. MGS 3 was also one of my fav. @Meteora1991Are you crazy? Metal Gear is full of corny dialogue, terrible puns and occasional nudity! Raiden is the worst character for me. I hated everything about him. I still to this day don't understand why they thought he'd be a good idea. They tried to beef him up in MGS4 and it just didn't work. Lets hope he's dead for MGS 5.

Personally, I think I like the style, color scheme, physics and altogether feel of the original trailer with the Fox Engine, rather than the Platinum games engine. But I think it will still be an awesome game, just a bit different in taste maybe.

@moleman988 You make good points MGS1 was probably the perfect story and turn of events and had the best stealthy type of gameplay, for me MGS2 was my perfect mgs title because when MGS1 came out i was'nt really old enough to understand what it took to get through the game and mostly sat back and watched my brother play through but even mgs3 captivated me wnough to play it through several times. The diffrence between this metal gear and the old school MGS games (number two, three and four) is that there is consistancy through those games and they feel like sequals and part of the same world this game feels like it set in completly diffrent world. If it did'nt have the appearence of riaden and that crazy looking metal gear ray then you could easily mistake this game to be a a ninja gaiden game or even bayonetta but even with the appearnece of raiden like @Meteora1991 says his charecter in these trailers is something completly diffrent from what it was in mgs 2 or 4 so what really gets my goat is not the fact that there trying something new or different because like you said with every MGS game kojima has done that and even when those decisions are not fully supported by everyone who plays they still manage to provide an awesome experience its just the leval of consistancy the other games had has been completly taken out and it just feels like the words metal and gear have been tacked onto the title now rather than being an actual metal gear game.

good! Kojima is currently working on a RPG tittle, and it appears that Team Kojima ain't much of a team without Kojima at the helm. In other words, if you can't do it yourself, don't do it at all. And well, Kojima made sure we all understood this is a spinoff. Nice, Kojima can now concentrate on MSG5 and the RPG title...if it stinks you can all blame Platinum games....but I for one am excited! Loved Bayonetta and Vanquish kicked major arse!

It scares me that kojima is giving platinumgames a say in the story , no wonder the way raiden talks in the new trailer is annoying (this is not vanquish or bayonetta) corny dialog is not excepted in a metal gear game. They should fix the way riden talks and his personality he should act and behave the way he did in MGS4 mysteries, soft spoken , etc u know what I mean.

I'm sure everyone would be moaning if Hideo kept to the same recipe as all the other MGS games. I remember not liking the strong James Bond theme within Metal Gear Solid 3 because it didn't feel right, that and the large jungle theme just didn't feel right. Yet it didn't stop it from being an awesome game. Same with MGS 4, I thought it was awful compared to MGS (On PS1), the over use of cut scenes makes the game terrible (like many people say) but it was the ideology behind the story. I thought the whole idea of Vamp was ridicules and Raiden even worse because the idea of completely dropping Snake in MGS 2 was a complete mistake, which put the last nail in the coffin for MGS 2's ratings/critical acclaim. But the reason I mention all this is because despite all these errors I praise Hideo for trying new stuff! Nothing will ever beat MGS 1 but the fact Hideo keeps changing his formula (sometimes for the better other times for the worst) it shows he wants to keep an audience interested and engaged. Could you imagine this game with the true MGS formula, really? Because what I picture is me getting annoyed with not being able to simply hack a group of troops to bits. True the trailer doesn't really show the sneak/espionage theme but it doesn't mean it isn't there. Remember MGS 4, when you had to simply sneak through the whole mission and then in the final Act you're simply running up a ship shooting at everything. I'll judge when I finally play.

They had something good and they blew it. The original idea for MGS Rising was awesome! And now it's just horsecrap

Hopefully you will make MGS 5 (a proper MGS) after that to redeem yourselves.

Nothing's more hurtful than seeing a masterpiece like Metal Gear turn into another Ninja Gaiden. Snake!, I'm glad you're not around to see this.

This looks and feels like a "normal" slash n attack type game, everything what MGS was not. So Hideo just gives away his MGS idea to another company so they destroy the true realism of what all MGS games are about. Whats next , when he makes MGS 5 I wonder if he's going to give that to another company and maybe they will destroy that too.

What I don't get is why didn't Kojima start with the techmnology from those Raiden cutscenes in MGS4, combined with MGR's 1st trailer and just go from there? I know it's way more complicated and technical than that, but it looks like Kojima over analyzed the situation. That 1st trailer was kick ass. Only time will tell what he final result of this collab with Platinum will be. Doesn't look too promising though but I will keep an eye on it.

Japan looks like an awesome place to visit. Hope I get to check it out one day.

I'm less excited about this now I think, that's why the game looks different was because their using a different engine of course. I think the demonstration video from MGS:Rising showing a game play was better then the one we've just seen recently. If you know what I'm talking about.

@jbahari - it's metal gear ray in the clip. Shame that so far it's missing long range weapons, but seeing as Raiden can sprint across walls and dash from enemy to enemy, arkham "free-flow" style that should hopefully make up for a lack of guns, i'd still like to see ranged attacks though dammit! SHURIKENS PLEASE KOJIMA/PLATINUM!

Well Kojima and Co. has made it clear that Platinum games has more of less taken ownership of this title. It completely distances Konami and Kojiima from this game if it is a flop. That being said although it is over the top and outside of the traditional MGS scope, (like Raiden basically lobbing MG Rex in the air and effortlessly slicing it in smaller pieces) if you can get past that, It still looks damn cool.

Well, looks like in the end this is gonna be more of a spin off than a strictly MGS game. That's both good and bad. Bad, because it's "just" a spin off. Good, because Raiden (especially in this new form) suits Vanquishy gameplay style much, much better. An action game that is bothflashy and spirited (with Kojima behind it) could really be something nice and a cool change of pace from other MGS games.

cant believe this, this is just one bad dream. this game would be cool if it didnt trash the metal gear name. should just call it beyonetta raiden vanquish garbage. kojima how can u bend over for platinum games :(

see what i mean...now you got a bunch of idiot soldiers wailing away at raiden with machetes? that isn't MGS man! i bet this is gonna be another game where you just fight groups of enemies level by level, with a boss battle at the end of every level where you get a new weapon/ability after beating each boss. not to mention the enemies by the looks of it mostly attack raiden with melee weapons because these platinumgames people are reverting the game to a more traditional aesthetic. in my opinion this is a big step backwards for the MGS series..

man i was looking forward to another game with the fox engine! i don't think it's gonna be nearly as interesting now that they rebuilt the game with the bayonetta engine or whatever it is...its just gonna be another bayonetta/devil may cry kind of game, which isn't necessarily bad, but it's just not as interesting as the concept of creating a fast paced sword/stealth game with the metal gear engine! now they're gonna have all those stupid colors and effects flashing as weapons hit as opposed to the realistic approach that konami studios was taking towards the game. ugh this makes me sad and a lot less excited for this game :[

I really appreciated that........I look forward to it. I enjoyed vanquish (the demo) and it looks like it plays like that.

Hideo Kojima is a living legend and Konami's awesome. A very well made documentary with a lot of sights of Japan, would wanna visit there someday.

hmm... I just got into playing Metal Gear Solid (still playing #1 and having fun every inch of the way!), and have beaten Vanquish. I've got to say that Vanquish was amazing but way too short and poor plot-wise. If Kojima's story (like it is in MGS1, the only one I've played so far) is implemented in the game like it says in this video, then it will probably be pretty amazing...but Hideo Kojima and others in this video kept emphasizing that they were re-imagining the story particularly for Plat's game style... so I'm not sure anymore about it being lengthy and interesting story-wise. However, the mechanics, visuals, and general gameplay in Vanquish were really, really top-notch (sheer number of objects on screen was insane). After seeing 20:01 of this video, I absolutely can't wait to try this game out just for the gameplay. I just really hope that they can actually have a good story this time around.

@dreamfist I liked the original concept better too but i'm willing to give this new version a good chance before making up my mind,it looks like any sign of stealth is out of the window now in favour of action,or should i say hack and slash ;-( i would rather we have some of it all or rather hoping we get it all,like stealth,action and hack and slash or am asking for to much here ;-) i will still be keeping a close eye on this game though and hope for the best.
