The new re-release of 2004 hit, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater contains so much more new content that its even worth picking up if you already owned the original.
This is in every way a memorable addition to the Metal Gear Solid family, despite the fact its just Metal Gear Solid 3 with more features. These features however make it worth the second purchase of the same game.
Firstly I'll start with the story, the main game being the same as MGS3: SE is simply great. The main character, codenamed Naked Snake is sent into the U.S.S.R. during the Cold War to save a scientist captured by Soviet soldiers in order to develop a dangerous new weapon that threatens the capitalist nations of the world. Sounds like your typical metal gear solid espionage action, and in every way it is. Every character and element of the game helps build up to a dramatic climax which makes the game so unique and almost like your playing a game and watching a movie at the same time. This is owed to the way the story is presented by Hideo Kojima and what makes this, like its predecessors a great game.
The graphics are fantastic for a PS2 game and really help immerse you in the natural environments that you journey through. These environments include mountains, forests, swamps, labs, deserts, caves, military camps and a number of other places that you would be likely to encounter in an action adventure espionage game.
Sound affects are really nice and music helps to keep the mood of the game flowing. The voice acting is perfect and suits every character at every given time within the game.
I think the big thing about this game though is the extras, and my gosh there are alot. The first being an interesting little mini game called Snake vs Monkey in which snake has to catch all the monkeys in each stage to progress. another interesting little add on is the original Metal Gear as well as Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake which will enlighten fans on a few of the more older games in the series. The movie viewer is also a nice little add on where you can basicly watch all of Metal Gear Solid 3 through a nicely compiled list of FMV sequences that were throughout the game. This is a great feature for those who are only interested in the story and would like to get into it without actually having to play the game. Boss battles are another great new addition in which you can go back and verse every boss throught the game again in any order you want and try and beat them with an array of chosen weapons and try and do it quickly to set new time records.
The biggest new feature though is definently the new multiplayer mode. Although most PS2 users dont play online, the multiplayer is still a great add on in which you can play MGS3 online against other fans using any character you want which is something that MGS fans with an online PS2 will definently appreciate.
Overall if you have the original, Snake Eater but are a die hard Metal Gear Solid fan with a few extra bucks to spare, get out there and buy this game...the added features will keep you entertained for hours even after you finish the main story. And for those of you who dont own MGS3 at all, get out there and get this one...you wont be dissapointed.

This game is, in my opinion, the best in the Metal Gear series.
