How do I equip with a different weapon?

This confused me before as well.
1. Recieve a new weapon.
2. Open the backpack through the backpack icon or by pressing start.
3. Go to weapons.
4. Double tap or press a to confirm a weapon bix you want a weapon in.
5. Select a gun.
6. Exit out of the menu and hold right on the D-Pad or press on the weapon box at the bottom right.
7. Go shoot stuff.
