A great game, unfortunately not a new one.

- The Bottom Line:
- "Mixed reactions"
Several reactions to this game have been overwhelmingly negative, seeing as there is so little apparent attention being given the PSP version of MLB 10: The Show by the developers as it's console counterpart. True, there is very little separating this game from MLB 09 save the roster and the addition of Target Field. Menus have also been redesigned slightly, and some grass and dirt textures have been amped up to look quite a bit better. Beyond that, however, this game has seen none of the additions that the PS3 version enjoyed this year save the Home Run Derby; no catcher mode, no real-time presentation, no historic stadiums, etc. What remains is a slightly altered version of previous entries that does not necessitate a purchase if you already have MLB 08 or 09. In fact, because there is no online support (as of yet), this game is seen as a step backward in the eyes of many.
That being said, if you want to play baseball on the go, and you don't already have an earlier version, this one is the one to get. Also, if you have a PSP Go, and don't have 09, this is also the choice to make. After all, it is still a great game for the PSP, and despite the fact that the game has not seen a significant upgrade in graphics since the original MLB 06, it is still very impressive in terms of gameplay and sense of immersion. In this sense, the 2K series still has a lot of catching up to do, even if The Show appears to be standing still.
The modes that are packed in here are still impressive as well; Road to the Show, despite not having the new catcher call-out mode, works as well as ever, and I actually prefer playing it on the PSP to my PS3 version. Seasons and Franchise mode are present as well, and work just like the PS3 counterpart.
If you're new to the franchise on PSP, or you haven't played it in a few years, this game is worth getting. Let's all hope that an online patch is in the works...
