- The Bottom Line:
- "Disappointing"
I bought the vita so i could have this game.
My story:
I waited so long to finally get it and when i did it was VERY DISAPPOINTING! when MK rebooted they updated the graphics to a thing of beauty, truly impressive graphics. The vita was touted as capable of PS3 graphics quality on the go, it didn't have 3d, streetpass, mii's, or any of the other interesting things my 3ds does to make it hold its value (and that's saying a lot since i was an ambassador [$250 for my 3ds @ midnight launch day]). They really missed the mark with this game it could have really shined and shown what the vitas main selling point and only distinction was; how bad @$$ the graphics capabilities are!
My review:
I got home loaded the game and the first thing i noticed was the grainy pixelated videos, then i got some screen tearing. HMMM i thought. loaded a match and when the level loaded i paused the game. I WAS SICKENED! i have played psp games that looked WAY better (KH BBS, dissdia 012, ff7cc, and more) the poly count was reduced to that of a nintendo64 game, and the textures were so blurry and grainy i was shocked. I didn't pay $500 for the 3g system and a 32gb memory card to put up with this !@#$, i felt robbed. So i played for 40 or so matches trying to get over the crap graphics. this is the only reason i didn't give it a 2.0 the core game play was a solid 60fps and it makes sense that a vita's quad-core can handle n64 graphics at 60fps, the feel of the game was still there and unlike my umvsc3 all the DLC was included, even stuff that is not in the komplete edition on the ps3/360. However the games digital release on the PSN was full price, not even the 5 bucks off that most other devs are dropping their games, IMHO this was the final blow! I can not justify buying a digital copy of something that you can never trade towards a new game without some form of incentive like a discount or bonus levels or characters. That being said i was very pleased i got the game from a retail outlet, because i returned it asap.
graphics: 4.0 / 10
sound: 7.0 / 10
game play: 9.0 /10
replay value: 9.5 / 10
Bang for the Buck: 7.0
Over all: 6.0
