MotorStorm: Apocalypse User Review

- The Bottom Line:
- "Highly addictive"
I enjoyed the Motorstorm: Pacific Rift but two things stopped it from being a keeper: the repetitive gameplay, and the fact that it had 66 trophies, many of which where based on online play which becomes a wasteland a couple of months after release. So despite playing through the entire game, I only earned 16% of the trophies, which is unfair. I've said it before and I'll say it again, online play should not could toward Platinums. Motorstorm Apocalypse doesn't rectify this, but the repetitive gameplay is corrected with a new 'story mode' and an overall superior presentation. The loss of a customizable soundtrack is a bit of a bummer though.
California has been destroyed by The Big One. Cities are in ruins and the decent citizens have fled, leaving everything behind. The Motorstormers have taken the city and turned it into a giant, crumbling arena filled with instant, very violent death. I'm not going to lie, there are several moments in this game where you'll leap right out of your chair as buildings crumble around you, the ground cracks open with new fissures and chasms, and bridges collapse as you fire across them. I hope your lung capacity is good because you'll be holding your breath a lot, and sweating through your shirt. Very exciting stuff indeed.
It scores better than Pacific Rift, but still disappoints with the now dead online play mode. I still very much recommend this game however, you'll finish in less than a week, but what a ride!

Motorstorm Apocalypse is an ambitious game only crippled by a cheap A.I./difficulty.

It doesn't reach the benchmark in visuals like its predecessors, but its a spectacular bombardment of threats and thrills

- I jumped on top of a car, which totaled my car and caused the car under me to drive into an unsuspecting bike driver. It was a mess, and probably my most epic crash so far.Posted Feb 10, 2009
