How do I stop/slow down teams from scoring in My Player?

I get that the Orlando Magic aren't a great defensive team, but the AI sometimes is sooooooooo dumb. They will refuse to contest 3s, and my opponent will drain mid after mid range shots. Even if some of them looked like it's contested, it's still going to go in. The only way I can't catch up to the scoring is if I have to drop 40-50 points, but sometimes I just want my team to score so I don't look too unrealistic.
I'm thinking I have to turn the play call on? I never tried it in this game, but I never liked it that much in 2K12. I play on 12 minute quarters, but I don't like having every game going over 120 points.

Yeah I agree. I play on 12 min quarters. I hate that I have to average 40 a game with my player to win. I'm on the hornets. Our defense is horrible sometimes. 100% chemistry too. If there is a way to get your team to step up d I'd like to know

You can call defensive sets if you want to change things up same way you call plays on offense. Typically the half court press is the best option to contest all shots; the coach AI will almost always have you play man to man even when it's not the best strategy. The only time I had coach switch to zone was when Rose started cheesing our whole team halfway through a game, not surprising it shut him down quickly but it was the only zone call I've seen in 80+ games. I've found the teammate AI is a lot smarter in zone coverage for some reason and their double teams aren't completely worthless.

Ok, I give up. I've been too embarrassed to ask. I've tried it every game and I cannot figure it out. How do you call defensive sets and offensive plays? When I press the directional pad the only thing that pops up is myplayer's stats.

Yeah I switch my defensive set sometimes. That can work to an extent. Certain teams I run full court trap to preasure the ball handlers bringing it up. Half court trap and different zones seem to work for a few series but if you stay in a defense other than man for too long they start to pick it apart

I think you press down or right on the de-pad, I can't remember which one. You can also press LB and select a player to bring up a list of plays for them. I don't know how to do full court pressure though.
I was play against the Knicks and we actually held them to under 97 points. I was switching between 3-2 zone and man-to-man. 3-2 zone seemed to help a lot.

I think you press rt to get to full court preasures once you get the defensive sets up with the d pad. The defensive sets they show you is just page 1 of 2. Full court pressure options are on the second page as well as half court press and half court trap. I think full court trap can work real well if your guards are good defenders.
