How do I return from the ruins?

Having trouble returning from the ruins with the silver shard. I have recieved it and when I return I am asked why I returned empty handed. Read a walkthrough that said i should be teleported back to the farm but that never panned out. What to do??

I tried this but Bevil never asks if I am ready to go. He just speaks a bunch of nonsense.

Go back to the swamp cave room where you found the shard in the treasure box. Bevil needs to be with you. Talk to Bevil and he'll ask if you're ready to go back to town. Say yes.

I had a problem with this too. You have to update your game to the most recent version for the quest to work.
