San Andreas assaults UK sales record
One million units in nine days makes San Andreas Britain's fastest-selling title of all time.
The Entertainment & Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), the UK's collective gaming industry identity, today announced that Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has become Britain's fastest-selling game of all time, across all platforms. The "M" rated game has sold one million units in just nine days at retail.
Roger Bennett, director general of ELSPA, said, "What has been so satisfying is the exceptionally high level of awareness for both GTA and video games in general, in both media coverage and the public consciousness."
Bennett elaborated, adding that, "perhaps for the first time, we have seen the kind of buzz which one would normally only associate with the release of a blockbuster movie, endorsing once again the increasing economic, cultural and mass market impact of interactive home entertainment."
