Kingdom Under Fire spreads to 360

Blueside departs from series' action RTS roots for dungeon-diving action RPG in Circle of Doom.

Korean developer Blueside Studios is trying something new with its Kingdom Under Fire franchise. Its next game for the Xbox 360, Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom, isn't just taking the series onto a new platform--it's taking it into a new genre.

Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders and Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes were lauded for their mix of action and real-time strategy elements, but Blueside is deviating from the formula by making Circle of Doom an action role-playing game. Instead of taking to the field of battle in command of an army, players will explore randomly generated dungeons, learn new abilities, customize their weapons, and stave off enemies "swarming the screen in thousands," according to Blueside.

One thousand-on-one doesn't sound like a fair fight, but players will be able to better those odds by forming a four-player party through Xbox Live to hack their way through Circle of Doom together. Blueside is promising that players will be able to take their solo characters online for the multiplayer action or form a party of new characters that may have more complementary skill sets.

While the developers are taking a new tack for Circle of Doom, Kingdom Under Fire purists can take some solace in that this is not a direct successor to the series. Blueside has said that it is merely a link between the previous Kingdom Under Fire titles and the next, still unannounced, proper installment of the series.

Kingdom underfier series rock all games are quite good i think this one will be even greater cause its an rpg, all are quite hard and are quite a challenge, its the kind of games i like challenging, not easy like lord of the rings as cyprus646 likes lol, cause he cant end challenging games like this ones.

I don't likie this, the only reason I liked the two on x-box was because of the action/rts formula. But as long as the next game is more like the previous two, I guess i'll buy it anyway.

Sweet. KUF is cool, but after a while I find the strategic elements too much hassle. I just want to focus on slaughtering the enemy. This sounds right up my alley.

The last 2 games were pretty cool, I can't wait for this one, hopefully with less heavy metal. This should boost sales in Asia, which is good for MS.

the 360 won't get forgotten cause MS is still willing to toss huge amounts of money into it.
anyway, it always did seem like MS garnered more korean dev support than Sony did. not that thats bad, i liked the kuf games, and magna carta. hell, i even dug lineage for a bit. i'm just saying

Rubin it wont not with games like ninety nine nights, blue dragon, lost odyssey, cry on, mass effect, too human, marvel mmorpg, ghost recon, splinter cell double agent, gears of war, and many more unnannounced big titles on the way.

Lets not forget halo 3... or fable 2.

It sounds like they are taking the series in a good direction. I think Ninety-Nine Nights will take the place of the KUF series, and this will be a good compliment to Oblivion, especially since you can go online.

I've been a huge fan of the 2 Kingdom Under Fire games released on the Xbox so this is great news for me. Sounds like a pretty damn cool idea they have in mind, too. I can't wait for screens; this could be a solid game by the sounds of things.

Sounds good. I still hope they make more of the RTS style. Imagine a game that looks as good as ninety nine nights with fire arrows crashing down and your cavalry charging through... Sweet!

I'm definitely looking forward to a KUF game on the 360. The series has been one of the biggest surprises in the last few years (when you consider the insane crappiness of the original PC product).
