GameSpot UK launches

If you're a UK-based GameSpot reader, you'll have found that you're now reading GameSpot UK.

For some time now, readers in the British Isles have been asking for more coverage of games and news coming out of the UK and Europe, as well as more services such as competitions for our UK audience. Today's launch starts the process of bringing just that to GameSpot readers.

So what's different about the UK site? Most significantly, there is a dedicated London-based editorial team that is focused on delivering more coverage of the UK and European gaming markets--expect to see more news, previews, and reviews from the UK--and coverage of games will be based around UK release dates (although the US release information is still available to UK readers, via the "Related games" information in the gamespace).

Readers outside the UK will notice no difference, although there will be news, previews, and reviews written by the UK team appearing on GameSpot.

On GameSpot UK, you will find all the usual GameSpot content and services. Registered users and Total Access subscribers will find that their profile, membership, and access rights remain the same.

GSUK has partnered with Play.com and SwapGame.com to provide you with local services if you want to buy or rent a game, and the site will be running competitions for UK readers to win games and other prizes (one lucky winner will take home an Epiphone guitar in our Guitar Hero competition, which starts today).

Building up GameSpot UK will be an ongoing project after it goes live, and the editors would like to hear more of what readers want. There is a UK forum where readers can air their thoughts, communicate with the UK team to suggest ways in which the GameSpot UK experience can be made better, or just chat about games with other UK readers (with access to all the other forums so that connections can be made with gamers from around the world).

Please, tell us what you think of the site by heading for the forums. And welcome to GameSpot UK.

Cheers!

Great. So now I can't review my US imports or add them to my collection until they're released in the UK.

Thank you Gamespot... I won't bother renewing my subscription.

I think this game will be the worst. Only fanboys will play it. If you play this, you are a newb. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are way better! :-)

I'm in England and as we get treated really badly here in terms of release dates, I import most of the games that I buy and I want USA news and release dates. How do I stop it always diverting me to the UK site?

If you're referring to today's God of War story, you can find it on GSUK here: http://uk.gamespot.com/ps2/action/godofwar2/news.html?sid=6148166

The UK team just hasn't had a chance to promote it yet.

How do we get rid of the site automatically taking me to the UK site. I don't like Football so it's of no use to me. AND already were missing news articles like the anoucement of God Of War 2.

Ok, so we have US and UK, which is a good job on Gamespot's part, but I live in Canada and in regards to the contests, we'd really love to be a part of all this stuff...it's a little unfair.

canand, I noticed I could put us.gamespot.com shortly after making that last message, I apologise for calling people here chavs. I was just really pissed off there for a second, I don't want to be forced to go to the uk site like that.

And UK games media in the past has mostly been garbage IMO, that's why I avoid it, with Edge and a few other industry oriented uk sites out there being an exception. I don't care about seeing coverage of games I've imported months ago, I don't care about football games, I don't care about Lara and other typical british tastes in games. I'm sick and tired of the british writing style in general, it's too informal for my tastes, anyway that's my rant for the day.

AND FOR ANYONE ELSE FROM THE UK THAT DOESN'T WANT TO BE RE-DIRECTED TO UK.GAMESPOT.. SIMPLY PUT US.GAMESPOT.COM, SAVE IT AS YOUR HOMEPAGE AND VOILA!

So... Gamespot.co.uk doesn't work yet. I'd like to see that link in my favourites if possible. I might start to use the forum now if GSUK is good. I remember when there was a UK based site like, five years ago. Good to see it back. Any chance of On The UK Spot?

This is brilliant! It's about time we had a site as great as Gamespot forming a UK devoted site. At last we will get all the decent info when we need it, and all the release dates etc. will even be RELEVANT!

Thanks Guys!! Or should I say Cheers?
