Treyarch has 007's next-gen number

Job listing reveals internal Activision studio is working on a James Bond game for next-generation consoles.
By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot
Posted Jul 14, 2006 10:00 pm GMT

Treyarch sure is a busy place these days. Besides being the developer of the Spider-Man games, the Santa Monica-based, Activision-owned developer is working one of its parent company's biggest titles--Call of Duty 3 for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Now, it has been revealed that Treyarch has been handed another high-profile franchise. A job listing on the Activision Web site is currently accepting applications for the position of "Gameplay Designer, Bond." "Treyarch is looking for a Gameplay Designer for our upcoming Bond title," reads the listing.

The job post goes on to emphasize that "the studio is focusing on developing and hiring for next-gen titles," indicating that the Bond game in question will appear on at least one next-generation console. However, Activision declined to specify any platforms. "We don't have anything else to add other than what was posted online," said a rep.

In May, Activision acquired "worldwide rights to create video games for all current- and next-generation consoles, PC, and handheld platforms" based on the James Bond character. Previously, Electronic Arts had the license but opted out of its contract with MGM and the production company EON, owners of the James Bond film license. Recently, Sony bought MGM in a multibillion-dollar deal.

The Activision deal includes both original games set in the Bond universe and games based on new films, such as the forthcoming Casino Royale. Royale will be the first film to feature Daniel Craig (pictured--Layer Cake, Munich) in the role of Agent 007 and is slated to hit theaters on November 17.

O and 4 all of the people arguing about who was the best bond:
Connery: the original, the best, period.
The step in for connery (dont remember his name): NO.
Moore: not as good as connery, but could get used to him
Dalton: crap. dont even mention him.
Brosnan: Yea he was good but nothing like connery.
Craig: thank you for stopping the stupid future gadgets. Good actor.

What is wrong with Treyarch! They make good games, they made Call of Duty 3 and that was good.

Anyone who still thinks Daniel Craig isn't a good bond after watching Casino Royale, should watch Layer Cake. It a damn good movie. As for the game, It needs to be as inovative as Goldeneye, something i always thought would be cool in a bond game is a freedom to choose what you bond you would like to play as. (exp. Connery - Craig) it would make multiplayer more diverse.

they simply have to base it on casino royale and whatever the 2nd part of it is (I mean the one where it continues the cliffhanger at the end) and they need to make it have a new gameplay feeling... like the movie casino royale was rough and tough and had a very gritty sort of feeling, this is what th game needs

To make a new Bond fps would be disastrpus and stupid, taking a step back from the awesome changes that "Everything or Nothing" did. The new game HAS TO BE IN 3rd PERSON. And they could try making it based on another of the old Bond movies, like "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", featuring George Lazenby, or any other movie with either Roger Moore (except "Moonraker") or Timothy Dalton. They're all alive, I think.

"James Bond movies used to be the sh**, now the're lame and futuristic. The games used to make you think and figure out ways to beat levels, in the newer ones all you had to do was pull out a "gadget" and you are on your way in nothing flat. I miss movies like Goldeneye where Bond was a stud, and he fought cleverly and skillfuly, not like the movie "Die Another Day" where Bond has a ****ing invisible car! When the hell has that ever happened? Bond films have turned into a young boys dream, its all lame now. Goldeneye was the only good Brosnan film, Brosnan was the best James Bond"

So... at any point have you ever been interested in the franchise except 1997? It sounds as if the ONLY Bond film you liked was Goldeneye, and that wasn't the best. From Russia with Love, Die Another Day and Casino Royale are my favorites. Goldeneye is quite futuristic, and what about Moonraker? That was as futuristic as you could get back in the 70's. Bond's always been hightech, suave and cool, except that the image of cool itself has changed, and audiences are no longer wowed by a man killing another man in a fist fight.

Ok first im going to start out this Comment by saying, Casion Royale kicked ass. Daniel Craig was born to be the next James Bond and im sure Treyarch is going to do just fine with making the Bond games now i mean they kick ass with the Call of Duty seris. Now we get into who is the best James Bond. In my opinon, i tihnk Daniel is the best, but i still like Pierce Bronsan, Timothy Dalton, and Roger Moore. I think those men were the best James Bond but now they have a new good one and his name is Daniel Craig.

Loved the movie (except for the crappy love story part of it) and hopefully the game will be just as great.

I've seen Casino Royale and it is in my opinion the best Bond film for years. It gives the series a much needed kick up the butt and Craig is now my favourite Bond, even including Connery. He seems born to play the role and the new film shows off just how cool Bond really is.

What this ea hell they'll just start slapping new features from russia with love and make a new bond game each year. and to PerfectDark0Fan yeah rare most likely could make another good bond game though they lost the licence to ea games so that dream is impossible.

Hopefully, this Daniel Stern kid will be good, both in the game and film. This may seem weird, but it just feels "right" playing with Pierce as 007. EA's only good Bond title was "Nightfire". It had an engaging story, which unfolded just like a movie would. I hope that they don't just use Sean Connery or Roger Moore as the characters like they did in FRWL. EA Games needs to buckle down, and concentrate on this next game.

they made 3 bond fps's and all three times they ****ed it up. i hope activition is able to come out with something at least similar to the original 007 for the 64. by that i mean as good.

I would be happy if they made a sequel to rogue agent and actually made it good. Rogue Agent had alot of cool and nifty ideas, but it was the worst execution I've ever seen. If they could fix the gameply, make you feel more like a villain and fix the multiplayer, Rogue agent could be very good.

Rare could make a great Bond game with the story of a Bond movie with the orgianl designer of Goldeneye "Duncan Botwood" who did Multiplayer Design in Perfect Dark Zero.

Rare has 8 Goldeneye employees.

i guess we wont se another golden eye .
that game totally rocked it's broke the same repetitive patern of fps and made it revolutionary i've never played a better fps that has such quality such as golden eye.
this one the 007 treyarch game is surely going to be acceptable but it is imposible to surpass golden eye.

"I hear you all the way " !!!!

I've been waiting a long time for them to create a game with the same type of gameplay as the Original Nintendo version of 007. If they did I am defenitely putting on my list of next generation console games to purchase.
To me the way Halo 2 looks is the way the new 007 should look and play like.

Craig was excellent in Munich so I reckon the naysayers are wrong. He can definitely play someone gung-ho but troubled. Which sounds a bit like Pierce Brosnan. The series was getting old anyway. Time for a new start (exactly what Goldeneye was going to be when it came out). Who cares if he's a bit blonde, so was Roger Moore.
Just my two pence (cents)

What made MGS 3 worst than MGS 1 and 2? 007 feeling. Eva (Bond girl). That music (EEEEEKKKKKKKKKK ). I'm afraid of MGS 4 after what i see in MGS 3. The battle music in MGS 1 was great.

Treyarch is going to be a busy company this year with Call Of Duty 3 and Casino Royale. New developer is the good news since EA didn't step up to the plate. The bad news is Pierce Brosan's likeness won't be on the game.

I think that ea should have used Free Radical to do a bond game. The Time Splitters games were great and it felt like goldeneye since its just about the same people who developed goldeneye.

I hope this one is as good as Goldeneye was for the 64. That game is classic and you probably cannot be considered a full-fledged gamer if you haven't played that before. Hopefully this one will live up to Goldeneye's standards.

Has anyone here actualy read any of the actual books that the Films are loosley based upon? I'm guessing not. The new bond an the film are obviously designed to take the series back to the original books as they were starting to get a bit far fetched. Oh and his hair is dark blonde, they have darkened it. Anyway...
