Captain quintet boards Star Trek: Legacy

Shatner, Stewart, Brooks, Mulgrew, and Bakula will all lend their voices and likenesses to Bethesda's era-spanning sci-fi sim.

This summer, Bethesda Softworks revealed that Star Trek: Legacy would cover the far-future eras spanned by all five Star Trek television series--the original Star Trek (spanning the years 2265 to 2269 AD), Star Trek: The Next Generation (2364 to 2369 AD), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (2369 to 2375 AD), Star Trek: Voyager (2371 to 2376 AD), and the prequel Star Trek: Enterprise (2151 to 2155 AD). The news had barely hit when speculation began as to whether the actors from these series would lend their voices and likenesses to the game.

Today, those questions were answered with a resounding "Yes." Bethesda today announced that the lead actors for all five series have joined the voice cast for the Xbox 360 and PC game. William Shatner will reprise his role as Star Trek's swaggering Captain James T. Kirk, while Patrick Stewart will once again polish off the pate of The Next Generaton's Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Avery Brooks will return as Deep Space Nine's Captain/Commander Benjamin Sisko, and Kate Mulgrew will don the unitard of Voyager's Captain Kathryn Janeway. Last--and in some fans' estimations, least--Scott Bakula will make the quantum leap back into the uniform of Enterprise's Captain Jonathan Archer.

As outlined in GameSpot's recent preview, Star Trek: Legacy is a space combat sim that will cast players as a Starfleet admiral commanding a task force of vessels through large- and small-scale battles. It will feature over 60 vessels culled from the entire Trek timeline (2151 to 2376 AD), including Klingon birds of prey and Romulan warbirds. The game is being developed by Mad Doc Software (Star Trek: Armada II) and is set for release in the fall.

This is the next best thing to a new Star Trek series coming out!
Just because of this fact alone I'm buying this game!
I can't wait to hear Avery Brooks and Patrick Stewart back in action!

You HAD to get in one last ENT dis didn't you? I think it'll be cool having Scott Bakula, this being the first game to feature the Enterprise era. A good way to fill in the gap after it’s cancellation, and an interesting opportunity to connect Enterprise to the rest of the series. With all the captains on board, it'll help do just that.

OMFG this is already teh best kick butt star trek game ever! yes yes I know dont quite jump the gun but from what I have seen helps, but actualy having the real actors doing the voices will make it the most real star trek game ever! I am super happy! I cant be any more happier how this game has turned out if possible I would shake their hands, all of them and feel joy.

The only thing that can make it any more cool is if it indeed released in September 6, or had a demo soon, but I am willing to wait when I will actualy hear all of the captains voices again, not just from old shows but from nows time.

Yep that thing on Picard's face is from when he was looking into the mirror in his quaters in First Contact. He was dreaming about whne he was borg and that thing came out of his face good job it was a nightmare.

Anyways this is great excellent news I'm hoping this game turns out to be the what some fans have been waiting for. A proper Star Trek game that has a dam good storyline and excellent ship battles and great player customizations for there own ships. I loved Voyager as the best ship but Picard has to be the best captian a debate I know but sorry he is.

  • Xavi3n

    Posted Aug 15, 2006 5:02 am GMT

for those asking "WTF is wrong with/on his face" . Let me enlighten you

It is a borg implant, more specifically from Start Trek: First Contact. Nearly at the beginning when picard/stewart has a nightmare within a nightmare where hes being assimilated.

IMHO first contact is the second best start trek film, first being Start Trek VI (ignores all those who say "OMG NOT II???").

Anyways Stewart and Mulgrew do a lot of voice acting anyways so im not surprised. The other two rarely do voice acting so im not entirely sure if they will be good at it, since voice acting is quite different from normal acting.

Fantastic, I had a feeling that these guys would do the voices as they all like Star Trek and want to see it back on its feet.

Star Trek Legacy here I come!!!

PS: I do not agree with the article where it says that Scott Bakula is the last and least, I think he ranks as one of the best captains, especially from seasons 3 & 4

WRONG everyone knows Star Treks best villian was Gul Du Kaat. He killed Warf''s wife Jad'zia and lead a take over of Deep Space Nine. When his people were beaten by the Klingons (in a war he started) he sides with the Dominion instead of accepting Federation help. Oh and let's not forget he tried to release the Pa' Wraiths and usher in a new dark age with that b!tch Ki Wynn. I could go on and on like when Du Kaat posed as a holy man and nearly convinced over 50 bajorans to kill themselves. Just so he could boast about having a grand purpose in the universe. That man had an ego the size of Jupiter. No contest Du Kaat kicks Kahn's a$$ hands down

I love the picture. don't know why you guys are bashing 'bout the pic. In a small article, you gotta make it unorthodox. I would have also added a pic of Kirk yelling "Khaaaaaan" on his communicator or Janeway fighting that weird alien bug... ahahahaha.

I love the entire Star Trek series, including Enterprise. I know a lot of people bashed Enterprise for it looking too high tech and poor acting in the beginning. But if you watch seasons three and four (mostly four), the acting picked up with the characters who sucked at first really began to stand out as main characters (Connor Trineer, Trip). There are many episodes where they spend time creating systems and weapons that are standard in the other Star Treks which does give the notion that they aren't as high tech as they look.

The other Star Treks need no explanation as to why I like them, they rock. It's not the looks it's the content and substance in the episodes.

I would enjoy it if George Takei was brought in to play Captain Sulu of the Excelsior, John Ruck (Capt. John Harriman of the Enterprise-B, and Tricia O'Neil (Capt. Rachel Garrett of the ill-fated Enterprise-C).

As for whoever suggested Capt. Christopher Pike, unfortuantely Jeffery Hunter, who played Pike in the first pilot, died after suffering a skull fracture after a fall in his home in 1969, which in turn happened after a minor stroke he suffered on the flight back from filming in Spain.

All in all, though, this is superb news. I was planning on picking the game up before, but now it's clinched.

(Though, on a side note, if they could also get Sean Connery to do the voice of Com. Elias Vaughn from the "8th Season" DS9 novels, that would we hawesome.

For those of you who bash Enterprise, have you ever really given it a chance? I was like you when the show first aired...turned off by the theme song and the notion of a prequel. However, I actually went back and watched the first two seasons and so far the show is pretty incredible. I'm still not keen on the idea that it was a prequel, but the crew was good and the choices made sense. They would probably have fit pretty well in either the Kirk era or the Next Gen era.

But anyway, as a big fan of the shows...I have to agree with another poster that it just wouldn't be the same without the original actors voicing their characters.

Good news indeed, i had no doubt Patrick Stewart would be in as he always been ready for any voice acting and Kate Mulgrew wasn't a big surprise either as she done a few Star Trek things after finishing Voyager (Admiral Janeway in Nemesis, and she did Borg Invasion 4d which is basicly a ride that is supposed to give you the feeling you are in it), but the others, especially Avery Brooks who hasn't done much acting since Star Trek, and hasn't got anything listed after 2001 on IMDB is a pretty big surprise, and a positive one, because although Patrick Stewart is a great actor, and he has really embraced Star Trek, i always thought Brooks played the best Captain.
As for Bakula, he's not a wonderful actor, but he had nothing to do with Enterprise being bad, he did a good job, it was just that most of the cast was pretty bad, exceptions being John Billingsley (Phlox) who did a excellent job, and Conner Trinneer (Tucker) wasn't bad either, although they writers did do a bad job at the character.
So i'm glad he's in aswell, if he wasn't then that would have been a shame, even though Brannon Braga and Rick Berman ruined a lot, it's still Star Trek.
