Bodog takes PS3 bets

Sony fanboys can put their money where their mouth is on online gambling site; bets being taken for PS3 price drop, FDA approval, and top-selling game.

This time of year is a sports gambler's paradise. The World Series is under way, the NFL is almost halfway through the season, NHL has dropped the puck, and the NBA season begins next week.

Plenty of celebrity-based gambling is also seeing action online. Online gambling site Bodog.com is taking bets on whether Britney Spears will adopt a foreign-born baby, Wesley Snipes will see jail time as a result of tax evasion, and Eddie Murphy and Malanie "Scary Spice" Brown will announce that a baby is on the way.

Now, gamers have a place to throw caution (and plenty of money) to the wind. In the Business Props section of Bodog, several bets can be placed regarding the PlayStation 3. The smart money is taking the "No" option on "Will Sony reduce the $499/$599 price tags on PlayStation 3 before the expected United States launch date of November 17, 2006." Betting $50 on "no" pays off just under $10, whereas "yes" pays $152 for every $50 down.

Wagers can also be placed on the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) denying approval of the PS3 before launch (the FDA regulates any device that may emit radiation). The only bet that gamers themselves can actually influence (though it isn't exactly cost-effective) is predicting which PS3 launch title will sell the most on November 17. The favorite is Madden NFL 07 at 2-to-1, with F.E.A.R. the longshot at 19-to-1.

The maximum wager is $50, and strict rules apply to each bet. Bodog is no stranger to games. The site's brand recently made an appearance in Sierra Entertainment's film-to-game adaptation Scarface: The World Is Yours.

    I think Im going to sign up and get some free money because 2 of them are definately NO the price one and the food one and Im pretty sure Resistance Fall of Man will be the best selling game. So thats a free $30 then right?

    It doesen't matter who developed it. Sony is trying to use the PS3 to spearhead the popularity of the format which at this time is unnecessary because the DVD is not yet out of date. What company does the public think of when they hear of Blu Ray? That's what I thought. Get your facts straight.

    I have my facts straight. Just because they got someone else to back them on the Blu-Ray format doesn't mean a thing. Until IBM and Toshiba put out their version of a PS3, I'll stick with hating Sony's process of releasing a new format just for the royalties. When all the PS3's sell out on the 17th, Sony doesn't really care if you buy a game or a movie, they get a cut regardless. EA and others might not be so happy if more people buy the system for its' BR player abilities than for gaming.

    sony tried to make the beta max, minidisc, umb, and now blu-ray all standard names in a household and failed miserably. what makes you think that this UNBACKUPABLE format(blu-ray) is going to be any different?

    It's funny hearing people say "I don't need Sony forcing their format on me" as if it was only Sony that developed it. It was developed by a consortium of companies, not just Sony. Get your facts straight.

    Other than that, top selling ps3 game, maybe Resistance, or the NFS game.

    Yeah that's right, you got me pegged as a MS fanboy. Even though I have own both the PS One and 2 and the majority of the games I own are for those systems. Take a look at my profile buddy. I guess I am also an MS fanboy because I realize that I don't need Sony to force their new format on me considering all the success they have had in the past like the minidisc player collecting dust on my entertainment center. Anyway you should have actually read my earlier post again to sharpen your comprehension skills I just said that Sony is already calling the PS3 a deal for consumers so it would be damn near impossible for them to consider lowering their price, thus making betters on them doing it fools. But I guess you have already hedged your bets that they did...

    ps3 is a good deal for the money they selling it for with a built in blu ray dvd player u know how much a blu ray player cost a blu ray player cost £999

    the ps3 is good value and a good console for the money its worth stop being a cheap skate
    only because sony is giving people good products for a decent and cheap price why buy a stand alond blu ray dvd player when u can get a ps3 with a built in blu ray dvd player at a cheaper price then a stand alone blu ray player it least i support both companies microsoft and sony make great games WESLY_SNYPES u must be another $icrosoft fanboy

    im no fan of gambling and i think gambling should be outlawed and made illegal in uk people can gamble at age 18 or 16 depending on the gambling arcade machinces and gambling should be made illegal in uk online websites aswell

    ubi soft if u reading these posts u making a big mistake releasing GRAW 2 before assassin creed its way to early for a sequal of GRAW couldint u just update the GRAW via xbox 360 live and just download the updates that would be much better assassin creed was an much anticipated r release title now u are delaying the game whats the point of GRAW 2] will take the place of Assassin's Creed bad move ubi soft alot of people was looking forward to assassin creed on release date for ps3 or xbox 360 and i think its way to early to release a graw sequal

    Okay I'm confused 555456, if you went to Ubi.com there is no release date listed, nor is there a 360 listing for AC.... which means maybe they don't update as often as suggested. However, go to http://assassinscreed.us.ubi.com/ and at the very bottom there is an official release that says they have pushed Assassin's Creed back.

    Assassins Creed isn't a PS3 exclusive guys, it's coming to the 360 also. Why would that be the best selling game at release if people don't even have to get a PS3 to play it?

    ok if ubi soft did annonced a fall back release date for assassin greed it would have change on the official ubi soft website aswell most big game companies are always updateing there websites so if the news on game spot about the assassin creed released date has changed the new release date would have been announced on ubi soft official website first so either way the new release date for assin creed on game spot could be just anouther romour :rofl:

    "In a statement, the company said, "[The launch of GRAW 2] will take the place of Assassin's Creed and Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway, which will now strengthen fiscal year 2007-08," which runs from April 2007 through March 2008." That at least means it's been pushed back to April, either Ubi hasn't updated the site or Gamespot is lying. Not trying to start a fight 555456, just comparing information.

    I'm pretty sure Resistance will be the best selling launch game. And I highly doubt the FDA won't approve the PS3. If any other device makes it through, I'm sure Sonys can.

    yuou prolly havent heard anything about because its probally a 1 in a million chance that the fda would not aprove it. if sony was worried about it there would have been plenty of stories on it. im not actually sure if the fda would even be involved in electronics but who knows lol.

    im no fan boy i got xbox 360 aswell ps2 and the normall xbox both consoles are gonna be ace including wii i think the Assassin's Creed will be the best selling ps3 game on launch date in uk ps3 in uk is being realeased 07/03/2007 luckly people is not allowed to buy more then 1 console so no one cant sell like 20 ps3 on ebay for more then the originall ps3 price im glad they are limiting the ps3 1 per person that will give every one else a chance to buy a ps3 instead of these ebay sellers trying to buy them all and to make a profit of a ps3 console i already pre orered the ps3 from play.com Sony Playstation 3 PS3 Console With 60GB HDD & 3 Games (Formula One 06/Warhawk/Singstar)

    Just because a bet seems impossible, doesn't mean it's impossible.
