ESRB reveals more Wii games

Board rates unconfirmed nostalgia-inducing Nintendo titles apparently headed to the system's Virtual Console.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Nov 8, 2006 10:28 pm GMT

In September, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) gave ratings for unannounced Wii versions of a number of classic Sega games that were assumed to be part of the company's Virtual Console downloadable game service.

Those assumptions were proven correct last week as Nintendo and Sega both confirmed the same slate of Sega titles would be among the 30 downloadable Virtual Console games available by the end of 2006. And while the games have now been officially announced, they were pulled at some point from the ESRB Web site and have yet to be reposted.

The ESRB might have done it again, as the company's Web site today lists an assortment of unconfirmed games for the Nintendo Wii, all of which bear names familiar to longtime gamers. A scan of the ESRB Web site's ratings database culled the following unannounced titles, some of which have previously been hinted at:

Punch-Out
Pro Wrestling
Kirby's Adventure
Kid Icarus
Hogan's Alley
Wild Gunman
Duck Hunt
PilotWings

All of the games received a rating of E for Everyone. It's worth noting that while these games would be plausible Virtual Console candidates, GameStop has been accepting preorders for Wii versions of Duck Hunt and PilotWings for months, both with a $49.99 price tag that would be more suited to a new installment in each series, rather than a straight retro release. A Wii game strongly reminescent of Duck Hunt was also shown in an E3 tech demo meant to feature the Wiimote's light gun-like capabilities. A Wii version of Kid Icarus has also been rumored for several months.

A Nintendo representative had not returned GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.

TheGamer4Life, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. The only game with sequels are punch-out (one sequel), pilot wings (one sequel) and kirby. So back back to playing your x-box that japan doesnt support, isnt fully backwards compatible, and breaks down all the time.

hey you notice it says Wii versions for $50, not the original. (for those of you that said you could play the games free elswhere). Sure beats 59.99 for new games on the other next-gen systems (however wii isnt quite next gen)

Wow more repacked games. Can't Nintendo come up with anything original? Its the same old games over and over on each system they make.

$50.00 a game? I hope that they aren't serious. I love all those games too, but I'm not ready to fork over that much for a game I could play for free elsewhere.

True, Mike Tysons Punch Out is great. I'm greatly looking forward to Kirby's Adventure what an excellent game. Also, you got to love Duck Hunt with the Wiimote, I mean come on now.

I see where a new list posted on IGN shows more downloads for the VC Super mario RPG, Super Metroid etc, I wonder how this will affect sellers on Ebay who sell games at such inflated prices.

"Why do they have to rate downloadable games anyway?"
So if parents are letting their kids get games on VC, they know what they are getting them into. You wouldnt want a lil kid play some old fasioned mortal kombat kidna game now would you? (even though they end up doing so anyway... -_-; )

That's great that Nintendo is releasing their back catalogs. I just hope in the future that they release titles that didn't make it to the states; games such as:

Devil World
Knight Moves
Clox
etc

And I hope that third parties such as Squenix will release their Super Famicom RPGs that never came out to the states

"I hope Nintendo is planning on putting the old Nintendo shows on the VC for download. Captain N, the old Zelda cartoons (well, EXCUSE ME PRINCESS), and the old Super Mario Brothers cartoon show with Captain Lou Albino. Ah, memories.

Oh yes, Killer Instinct better be released at some point. I don't care what anyone says, it's a Nintendo game first and foremost. The last thing I want to see is KI on 360. "

They more than likely are not going to put cartoons/tv shows on there for download; it would take too much space.

Killer Instincts is not a Nintendo game first and foremost, it is a Rareware IP. They own the rights to it. It more than likely will be made for the 360, however Nintendo and Microsoft have been on very good terms lately (look at content being developed for the DS) so it is very possible MS would allow Nintendo to have that property as a VC title as well.

It will be very interesting to see how they handle the light-gun games. $15 for Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley and Wild Gunman is totally acceptable.

Now all we need is some Battleclash and Metal Combat for some rocking Super Scope action.
