Downloadable maps for 360 COD3 debriefed

Activision heads back to the front lines of downloadable content with its latest WWII shooter; free map, $10 map pack coming postholidays.

While several publishers struggled with getting the correct formula right for downloadable content over Xbox Live, Activision didn't seem to have any problems.

For its Xbox 360 launch title Call of Duty 2, the publisher released bonus multiplayer map packs, ranging in price from free to $10. Through August, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said that more than $1 million had been made from downloadable COD2 maps alone.

The company is hoping for similar financial success from its latest game in the series, Call of Duty 3. Today, Activision revealed that it is releasing six new multiplayer maps for the game sometime after the holidays.

One map, titled "Champs," will be given out for free. The map is set in Port Royal de Champs, France, and is sized for small to medium groups of players. The remaining five maps will be bundled in the Valor Map Pack and sell for 800 Marketplace points ($10).

    i cant wait to get the new maps,there is only 9 maps in the game, i want more maps,i'll probebly get them all,i cant wait,does anyone know the date that they will be coming out??

    That's not fair! We already paid $60.00 for the game and now they are trying to make money out of us for some additional maps that's $70.00 Old school consoles don't used to rip off us like that. It was about the gamers not the money

    Just give me a dam patch for this game for gods sake! its the only game that crash's on me all the time! i paied £40 for this game and its faulty! i dont need more maps i need stability!

    I am not buying anymore maps!!

    This year alone i have played some many WWII games, i killed so many Germans but yet they keep on coming back in sequels.

    well yes it all is very true.. why spend 50 to 60 dollars on a game then 10 bucks for maps?? if i do end up getting this game.. ill just do like i did with halo 2.. wait til the maps are free then mooch off of them for once

    P.S. If it was'nt for developers hurrying the process of the game being made.. no such thing would be patches.. but we would have lots of kids b*tching about the game not coming out for awhile.. so enjoy what you have and don't cry about it and if you think its a cheap rip off.. why the hell did you buy the game in the first place??

    To all those going 'Yuh I'm gunna buy dis nowe' why don't you tryipicking-up on the fact that most of the posts here point out how bad it is online and that it is crying out for a patch.

    I'm going to buy this when they fix the online ranked modes and not before. Do NOT support Activision trying to become the next EA!

    aaaarararrarrararararararararrarargh, right im totally annoyed now, COD 3 DOESNT EVEN EFFING WORK PROPERLY ONLINE AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR MORE MAPS, MORE! WTF IS THIS, I CAN ONLY PLAY CTF AND HAVE NEVER HAD A RANKED MATCH YET I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE GUYS!

    When they release chargable maps over critical patches its clear where their priorities lie and what they think of the customer. I for one wont be buying COD again (unless its in the bargain bucket) and will be redirecting my finances to EPIC and GeOW.

    forget patches, how bout getting the game to work before release? patches are suppose to be for mixing minor problems, not to unbreak half of the game

    the online sucks. it takes nearly an hour just to get one game on live, and then after that another hour.

    Hahahaha I just turned on COD3 and there was a patch! I downloaded it and installed it and it fixed.... NOTHING. Thanks guys.

    Ive never played this online. Why? BECAUSE IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. I'm not paying for new maps when I can't even play the old ones. And even when I AM able to play it online I still won't pay for them. Hell im tempted to call Activision and ask for $30 because I only recieved half the game I paid for. You figure they would've done it right this time... I figured it too... but I guess I was wrong.

    FIX THE DAMN GAME FIRST. MAPS LATER.

    Uhm...these morons might want to patch the game before giving out maps for a mode that a lot of people can't get to work. I'm surprised they even rolled these out. It just makes them look twice as ignorant.

    They wouldn't charge for these maps if the idiots didn't go out and buy them. Seriously is it that hard for them to have a small post production support team that make the occasional free map? After all they have already fleeced the player out of $60 a pop AND released 2 CODs within a year.

    So when they release new maps for Gears of War, and charge for them, which they will, then what will be your excuse?
    I don't see anything wrong with charging for map packs. You know, they could just not make any at all.

    P.S. - I'm still beside myself at how over rated Gears is. I just don't get it. It's a really good game, but no more. To each his own I guess.

    Well charging for your maps is terrible i didn't pay for the call of duty 2 maps and i aint paying for this batch,
