Haze PS3-only in '07

With Killzone 2's release date still very much up in the air--more information is expected at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in July--it looked like there would be no PlayStation 3-exclusive first-person-shooter counterweight to Halo 3 this fall.

That is no longer the case.

This morning, Ubisoft revealed that the PS3 is now the "lead platform" for Free Radical's forthcoming shooter, Haze. Originally set for a release on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 this spring, the game will now debut solely on the PS3 this fall.

In fact, the fact sheet provided by Ubisoft no longer lists the PC or Xbox 360 versions of the game, prompting some speculation that it may become PS3-exclusive. The UK Haze site for the game also only bears the PS3 logo, although the American Haze site still sports the Xbox 360 and PC-DVD logos at its bottom.

When contacted by GameSpot, Ubisoft reps were somewhat cagey. "Haze is leading on PS3, but no exclusivity for any platform has been officially announced," a spokesperson said. This leaves open the possibility that the game could arrive on the 360 and PC sometime in 2008.

Set in the year 2048, Haze foresees a near future where megacorporations dominate the planet with private armies. Players assume the role of a soldier for one corporation, Mantel, which outfits its troops with high-tech weaponry and biomechanical serums.     no-go-zone i dont relly care if if halo came to the ps3 and killzone 2 came to xbox 360, every game should come to every consle cuz i got the xbox 360 2 years ago for x-mas and dont wana spend alot of money on a ps3 just for HAZE and teken 6 ive been a sony fan forevr and loved teken since teken 2 but this is way to extream i mean you have to say it would be mint to have every game to come to the ps3 i just want the same for every thing so no one missis out

    My guess is that they struck a deal with Sony to keep it a PS3-exclusive title for a few months, much the way that Rockstar has historically done with the Grand Theft Auto games. If Ubisoft has put any effort at all into making this game work on the PC and 360, they would be foolish not to go after those extra sales.

    360 has halo so its only FAIR that the ps3 has HAZE and the only reason 360 wants it is so they can say "HA HA WE CAN GET HALO AND HAZE SHAME PS3 GAMERS!!!" If they have halo they ant exactly guna want to buy haze streight after are they where ps3 gamers will (like myself) theres a partition with over 3500 sigs on for ps3 exclusive so (bleeps out the rest)

    This game looks great. I can't wait to play it on the 360. It makes sense to release it for the PS3 first because it has no games. It also makes sense not to release it on the 360 around the same time as Halo 3. It will also give a little more time to upgrade the graphics to the 360.

    this game looks lush with the pre-renderd footage mixed with the supreme graphics of the PS3. itl be like the scene from NFS:Most Wanted and Carbon. make the game feel a bit more realistic. =]

    no console downright beats another right now. both systems have great futures in store, but its not up to a console to become good, its up to the people who make the epic games for that console.

    listen to nisenasse..............hahaha the 360 is'nt even in the same league as the ps2! the ps2 is still outselling the 360, and the ps3 is gonna complete the job in due time..........as for halo........i've seen much better! and halo 3 looks like s*** by the way. thanks alot.

    i myself have a ps3 and believe this was a wise decision on ubisoft's part. I like xbox 360 but it already has all the Halo's and theyre all just a tad overrated

    No Haze? Looks like I'm going to have to crank up all that cash finally for a PC after all... Not like this was the pivot shifter, but with Assassin's Creed and Crysis on a super PC... Hardly anything will compare, especially since PCs are now becoming Xbox 360 Controller Compatible. My, what a monopoly...

    I personally don't care what games are exclusive and what aren't, I'll buy a game or PS3 or 360 depending on how the controller feels depending on the game. Since I have no choice, I'll buy this for PS3 and Halo 3 for 360.

    Haze seems pretty sweet, free radical's previous games have been halfway decent but not impressive. Let's hope that Haze turns that around.

    Halo is way too over rated. its a boys game thats all shoot and no meat. haze has some real meat to it in terms of storyline. hey if ubisoft wants to go ps3 only, im cool with that. not so much as an answer to halo, but more like punish those 360 fanboys...

    They do the temporary exclusivity thing for a while to please sony, in this case. Like other games, they'll eventually release one for the others if it is a big enough game. The PC is back in a big way, unless this game sucks, it will be released on PC later on. Me play an FPS with a controller? What the f is a controller?

    please, dont compare this game to halo anymore. in all the previews iv seen it has said that haze is going to explore the moral side of war. so near the end of the game you will start to question who your fighting for, if your the good guys and if its worth fighting.halo 3 is a teenagers game, you shoot everything that moves, and you dont give a ****. this game wil be more realistic, like you go through a level and you will feel for your victims, and will se your team as the bad team. in real life, people come back from iraq after shooting one guy, and go to trauma centers. haze will show the real side of war

    I'd say that any FPS game that can crush the dam Halo series is one I will definitely buy! In my opinion, Halo has been way over rated for the longest time. Haze is gonna be wicked! I don't care if you have an Xbox or not, I think it is totally assinine to have to shell out $130.00 for the dam super ultra powder free edition of Halo 3. For that price, just get a PS2! Long Live Sony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    you can tell when a game is trying to crush halo, but having played both halos, other fps on consoles and many on the PC, halo doesn't stand up to top tier fps' on the PC and i actually prefer other console fps'

    truth is, no one shud care (except the companies of course) if a game is an exclusive to their system or not as long as they get to play it...but then again this is the real world and sadly, i hope so much that this game becomes a ps3 exclusive and rapes halo...id wuld very much like to see what those fanboys say then...

    @ krelwy. HALO has not proven it is the best at anything! HALO has its reputation because it is the game that saved the xbox from official death! and there are many pc shooters wayyyy better. it is xbox's most cherished franchise. that is all. all the same haze looks and plays awesome! i am HAPPY i get to play this on my ps3 later this year! wooohoooo!

    Woo, this game seems good. Lets hope it puts up a nice bit of copetition for the halo series! Would be nice to see a bit of tought comp for halo !!! Will defo be buying this game.

    This game is gonna compete against crysis, not halo, lol. Anyway, Halo sells a lot but is mostly for n00bs, I'll buy crysis and Haze anyway, sin they are looking great! And no, I won't buy halo, lol, dah. ps: this game could help sony compete more fairly in the console war. But I'll get it on the ps3 ONLY if they have support for a keyboard and a mouse ( I suppose they will, but if they don't ... )

    I think that people should stop trying to beat halo. Hasn't it already proven to be the best after like, what, 6 years? Let it be and focus on making more great games instead of basing your entire life on trying to beat one game. I don't even have a 360 or the original Xbox so I'm not a M$ fanboy or whatever. I think this game looks great, I don't really care whether or not it goes to other consoles, as long as I get to play it, I don't care.

    Not necessarily, if they feel they could stand up against Halo 3 (note I didn't say 'beat'. Games don't 'beat' each other), and can convince Sony of this, Sony will pay them to have to exclusive to comabt Halo.

    Frankly I don't care because I don't like shooters, Halo or otherwise. But just correcting you that it COULD be good business. Think the unthinkable, that it becomes as huge a phenomenon as Halo, in such case it WOULD be good business sense ass they would have established and identity for themselves, and Sony would reward them handsomely to stay with Sony.
    Sure it may seem unlikely, but so did Xbox going anywhere. That ALL changed because of one grossly overrated game (in my opinion), so its entirely possible, besides, everyone is always **** about lack of innovation and it being all sequels. Well here Halo is a sequel and Haze is something new. ...As if shooters ever consist of anything new.

    Why are all of the developers becoming retarded? Honestly, do they think I will spend 600 more dollars on a PS3 when I allready have a 360 just to play Haze? Why not just publish it for both consoles and make even more.

    Its a little late in the console wars to start announcing that games are exclusive when it won't matter by now. Most gamers are set with their consoles, a VERY large percentage are going with what they already have.

    I understand games like like Killzone and Halo that have been exclusive all along. Thats what makes consoles unique, but by now its just stupid. It pisses off half the 360 fanbase just to make the PS3 fanbase happy? Thats not good for buisiness... ever...

    The reason for this I believe is simple. People who have both the PS3 and the 360 are more apt to buy the game on the 360. By taking that option away for a month or two, someone like me will buy it on the PS3 instead. I also cannot compare the two before I buy, and since the PS3 has had pretty weak ports of 360 games, I'm sure they know which one is better and are adjusting release dates to compensate.
