Haze PS3-only in '07

Console now "lead platform" for Ubisoft's next-gen sci-fi shooter--but still not exclusive; game to counter Halo 3 this fall, new screens inside.

With Killzone 2's release date still very much up in the air--more information is expected at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in July--it looked like there would be no PlayStation 3-exclusive first-person-shooter counterweight to Halo 3 this fall.

That is no longer the case.

This morning, Ubisoft revealed that the PS3 is now the "lead platform" for Free Radical's forthcoming shooter, Haze. Originally set for a release on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 this spring, the game will now debut solely on the PS3 this fall.

Haze

MantelCorp wants you!

In fact, the fact sheet provided by Ubisoft no longer lists the PC or Xbox 360 versions of the game, prompting some speculation that it may become PS3-exclusive. The UK Haze site for the game also only bears the PS3 logo, although the American Haze site still sports the Xbox 360 and PC-DVD logos at its bottom.

When contacted by GameSpot, Ubisoft reps were somewhat cagey. "Haze is leading on PS3, but no exclusivity for any platform has been officially announced," a spokesperson said. This leaves open the possibility that the game could arrive on the 360 and PC sometime in 2008.

Set in the year 2048, Haze foresees a near future where megacorporations dominate the planet with private armies. Players assume the role of a soldier for one corporation, Mantel, which outfits its troops with high-tech weaponry and biomechanical serums. It makes perfect sense to have it PS3 for 07 any shooter going up against HALO is going to suffer badly ( the Beta confirms this 600,000 gamers and 20 million games played in a week ! ) It WILL though be out for the 360 early 08 without a doubt ! shooters do so well on the 360 / pc . 08 should be great HAZE early 08 then dare i say it GEARS 2 late 08 !

Face the facts - games are now becoming multi-platform in this generation. Why? Because it takes a hell of alot more money to make games nowadays. I mean, look at Killzone 3.. (Yes, 3. Killzone 2 was on PSP, remember?) $40,000,000+ USD? Seriously. Developers have to look at other consoles now to make a profit rather than "staying true".

Benshki, read the dam article. It clearly says that theres a chance (and in my oppinion a big chance) that this game will be a ps3 exclusive and if it isnt, 360 and PC will probably have to wait till sometime in 2008. Now that doesnt mean anything you'll obviously have halo you can wait till 2010 probably but this game looks pretty dam good so halo better watch its back

seen as though i got suspended for makin some xbox fanboys cry i'll jus comment the game and say i fink it will be an exciting game and yes i fink it will easily rival halo 3 if not surpass it seen as though theres not much difference between the 3 halos plus dont forget this will be the 3rd halo so they shud of been able to make sum major improvements which they havent and haze is a new game not a sequal so they dont have an older version of it to work from but it will be great (better than halo)

I'm really interested/excited in this game, but the guy in the Q&A is definitely not getting his answers across well. He keeps saying things about Nectar as if it's the only special thing to the game and doesn't really mention anything that'll really buy me into it. Luckily for them, I'm a sucker for good graphics.

How about all the bashers just stop posting! I hate looking at the comments, everyone leaves here now as it's just garbage. Talk about the game and not comparing the consoles that most people don't even own. I have all the consoles and love something about all 3. It's about the games and by the end of the year all the consoles will have a reason to own them. If I had to rank the systems right now I'd place the Wii 3rd due to it's lack of power and games that are too kid oriented. Yes, the PS3 is lacking games right now, but by the end of the year that will change. How about we all just wait till E3 and then we'll talk.

freerunner01,hey rmember microsoft was tweking the xbox live, for more than a year and sony started a breand new online experience, with the network so if you remember, when you play regular xbox games is just like playstation network, all the great feature of live is not found in the xbox, because i use to have it and now i have a 360 and a ps3 just give it some time, one year to be exact, with all the update the ps3 is getting i think it will be good i don't know to be on par with the 360 but i know it will be good because so far they adress so many issues.

Haha Finally, a game too good for the 360 that it'll take time before they make the game crappier for the 360 due to the dvd format lol I think this game has good chance against Halo 3. Halo 3 isn't like a "wow" game. Haze will be sick, I can't wait till it comes out.

Halo 1 was good, better on PC.
Halo 2 was the same thing with blury-er graphics, too short. Let's see what the Vista version will be.
Just tried Halo 3 beta and it's like watching "Back To The Future: Part 3. The same thing again with OK graphics, certainly not up to par with 2007 GPUs. Sorry to say, but I won't jump on the hyped bandwagon...Halo 3 won't give you anything different...that's the problem with Microsoft X360 games...they are extremely generic, same as the original Xbox.

    This is for the unbelievers...

Is Haze multiplatform? You only mentioned PS3 last night at the conference.

Doak:So we're going to be on 360 and PC but at the moment our big focus is PS3. Part of that is the company's heritage of working on PlayStation 2 with the TimeSplitters franchise, and just wanting to do something new. I think that launching a new brand on PS3 is a good place to do that.

  • jac494

    Posted May 25, 2007 11:31 am GMT

    Oh contraire...

Free Radical's David Doak has told Eurogamer that Haze is being developed for multiple formats after all - it's just leading on PlayStation 3. "We're working on development on all platforms, so we will bring the other ones along," Doak told us at UbiDays in Paris yesterday. "It's just looking at the way to best get a return on the investment of making the game."

Uh oh PS3 owners better call the WHAAAAMBULENCE... I can already hear the whining.

At Ubisoft's recent press event held in Paris, Haze developer Free Radical told CVG the game is in development for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and not just PS3 as has been reported.

During the Haze section of the Ubidays conference, the impressive-looking shooter was unveiled as PS3 lead with no other systems mentioned.

Haze was originally announced for all three systems in 2006 but the lack of any other system being mentioned for over a year, and the fact that the TimeSplitters team has a massive PlayStation heritage, seemed to point the finger of exclusivity at Sony and PS3. This isn't the case though. During an exclusive interview Free Radical's Dave Doak told us that while the game is leading on PS3 there are also Xbox 360 and PC versions coming

from computerandvideogames.com.... just to clear things up. Not that gamespot being late with news is a shock

SONY FANBOYS TAKE NOTE THE PS3 IS THE WORST SELLING HARDWARE IN N/A @ THE MOMENT (NPD SALES )

  • TTDog

    Posted May 25, 2007 3:40 am GMT

@Scolopendra; a) The PS3 sales are not increasing anywhere or do you choose to ignore facts that don't fit your ideal world, 82,000 in the US being less than the GBA and half the number of the 360, in Europe sales dropped 82% after week 1 and continued to drop; b) Every game shop I enter has piles of PS3's with a nice coating of dust and I have only seen one person leave a shop with 1 (and he looked like he'd been caught buying hard core donkey scan mags).

So its safe to assume that a) 5.5million units have not been sold, b) Its not selling better than anything apart from the Gamecube which has been discontinued.

It may pick up when they drop the price, reintroduce rumble and get some more decent software but right now it blows.

  • Scolopendra

    Posted May 25, 2007 3:19 am GMT

For those of you XBOX fans. Let's look at facts. PS3 shipped in quantity of 5.5 Mil units worldwide on the date of 31 March 2007 which is the end of fiscal year for Sony. You can obtain this info from Sony annual report. As far as it's public company audited by independent auditors I doubt they're lying in their reports.

Shipped doesn't mean sold. But tell me anybody do you see unsold stacks of PS3 anywhere? I doubt it. So, we're safe to assume that 5 mils are already sold. And now we're almost two months after 31 March. So, I suppose it is safe to say that at least 5.5 Mils of PS3 are sold at this very moment. Where you see 3.1 here?

And again facts. PS3 selling better that PS, PS2, PSP, XBOX, XBOX 360 if you'll take the same moment of lifespan for each console. So, where it's sales are sluggish? It's more succesfull yet than XBOX 360 - that's fact.

Wii is selling much better. True. Also true that Wii is losing it's momentum drastically right now just look at the sales charts in Japan, USA and Europe while XBOX 360 sales are steady and PS3 sales are increasing.

And it's all without any breaking title for the platform. What will be when blockbusters are will be relesed for it? What will be when PS3 exclusive blockbusters are will be released for it?

As it was said once: Do not underestimate the power of PlayStation.

Good day to everybody, Play Beyond.

Honestly, the only reason this is probably leading on the PS3, then coming to the 360 later is opposition from MS. They probably gave Ubi a hassle because they didn't want it competing with HALO 3, and instead of pushing it back, Ubi probably decided to lead it on the PS3-bad news for MS because now it is an exclusive(at least for a limited time).

So, I ask this....Is UbiSoft arrogant enough to believe that a new franchise shooter debuting on a console that is already losing steam and can barely go head to head with GBA can compete with Halo 3? ROFLMAO!!"

6.5 million ps3s by fall?? There are only 3.1 million sold so far.. you really think they are gonna double their numbers in a few months? Highly doubtful considering how sluggish their sales have been.. maybe they'll make 6.5 after chistmas but not by fall.

The truth is that Sony consoles are not FPS based they are more into the GTA's and Final Fantasy games. Resistance was a good game, but I just don't think that the Sony base gets nearly as excited as the Xbox base does about FPS's.

Besides that sony has been losing exclusivity rights left and right. I would like to see somebody use the power of the PS3 to it's strengths, but the fact that the coding is more difficult in producing a PS3 game rather than and Xbox 360 is one of the biggest reasons that the roles from the previous generation have been swapped. Games are now being created on the 360 and ported to the PS3 a year later(with lower quality). Don't take my word on that check most of the games that have been released for the ps3 more than a month or two after they were released on the 360, they have lower scores on the ps3 being released that much later. I am not biased I have a 360 and a ps3, but I rarely play the ps3 (excluding resistance) except for ps2 games because there are no good ps3 games, and there is an abundance of good xbox 360 games. Yeah the 360 has been out for a year and all that crap, but honestly there has been *one* good game on the ps3 and they have not been able to hold onto exclusivity so the way it looks right now is that they have no chance in this race. Sorry sony fanboys look at the facts the Wii will win.
