Report: DragonForce rocks Guitar Hero III

Score Hero reveals four new songs confirmed for rhythm game, including songs from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iron Maiden, and ZZ Top.

Upon release of the original Guitar Hero, Internet message boards quickly filled with topics to the effect of, "Dudes, wouldn't it totally rock if [insert ridiculous song here] were in the next Guitar Hero game?" According to staffers at Guitar Hero tribute site Score Hero, it looks like at least one of those fantasized lightning-fast tunes will be in the next installment of RedOctane's guitar-centric rhythm game series.

During a community event held last Monday, Guitar Hero III developer Neversoft revealed four new songs slated to appear in the game, according to Score Hero site admin JCirri. During the event, Neversoft showed off the game's whole setlist, which included a master track recording of "Through the Fire and Flames" from speed-metal demigods DragonForce. For those unfamiliar with the fringe rockers, the band shows off its skills in several oh-so-helpful YouTube videos on how to play its epic riffs.

The three other songs named by Score Hero that will appear in Guitar Hero III should also pique hard rockers' interests. Adding to the game's extensive list of original recordings will be the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Suck My Kiss" and Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast." The site also reported ZZ Top's Texas tribute "La Grange" will be covered for the game.

Responding to a request for comment, a RedOctane representative confirmed that Score Hero had been at a recent community event, but would not confirm the four new songs.

Songs thus far officially announced to appear in Guitar Hero III:

Original Songs:
"Sabotage" by Beastie Boys
"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses
"Cult of Personality" by Living Colour
"Knights of Cydonia" by Muse
"Evenflow" by Pearl Jam
"Lay Down" by Priestess
"Paint It Black" by Rolling Stones
"Cherub Rock" by Smashing Pumpkins
"The Metal" by Tenacious D
"My Name Is Jonas" by Weezer

Cover Songs:
"School's Out" as made famous by Alice Cooper
"Slow Ride" as made famous by Foghat
"Barracuda" as made famous by Heart
"Rock and Roll All Nite" as made famous by Kiss

DAMN, I love the Dragonforce song they chose. It's so satisfying once you finally beat it.

Dragonforce? Oh man, if this is the final song, it'll be impossible to beat this game.

Dude, Through the Fire and the Flames could very likely be the final song in GHIII. It would be so epic, even more than Free Bird, cuz that song got really repetitive in the later portions of the guitar solos. This song changes so rapidly that one could probably completely lose just by missing one transition.

MadDog1250: I agree mostly but have to point out that the band Tenacious D did not spawn from that movie. Jack Black and Kyle Gass had been making music for years under the name, "Tenacious D", before they made the movie. The movie was about the band, not the other way around.

Awesome looking list so far, but we could use more Lamb of God. Walk With Me In Hell, Blacken The Cursed Sun, or More TIme To Kill would be so f***ing awesome. I'm just hoping that they have Metallica on here, Master of Puppets would be B.A.. And to DatDude08, Dragonforce is lightyears from Pantera. Pantera is very dark and grungy sounding. DF is light and quick (and has mostly 7+ min long songs)

it'd be funny if there would be blink 182 songs in GH3

I am tired of people bashing Dragonforce, if you dont like the band, then dont play the song.
weather or not you like the band or not, Through the Fire and the Flames is an awesome song and one day I really hope to be able to play it on a real guitar, until then, I am happy playing it on Guitar Hero

through the fire and flames new notechart for GH3 should be a lot more challenging than the custom ones found all over youtube through modded versions of the ps2

Leaves a question on my mind, who will rule Guitar Hero III or Rock Band?

    Posted Jul 30, 2007 10:18 am GMT

I'm pretty excited about Dragonforce not because I like them but because I'll enjoy the challenge of five starring it... But I really do hate how they always play over the top... If they want some good metal they should add Tool, Dream Theater and Queensryche... That would totally rule...

They should put some Radiohead in too... Just, Paranoid Android, Electioneering or Go To Sleep are all good choices... If they put Creep in the game I will explode with anger lol.

Definetley getting this. The play list looks great to me. I just want some more Guns 'n Roses, but w/e.

Never really listened to DF, but they seem a lot like Pantera from their guitarists.

    Posted Jul 30, 2007 7:04 am GMT

    I like speed metal...

Overall, I'm happy with the list, but I also try to keep an pretty openmind when it comes to music.

Come one guys. Play nice! It's gonna be fun regardless of whether there is one or two songs you don't like.

Woody, those are probably the two worst songs ever. Where the F is Soundgarden? STP? Mastodon? What about Slipknot? They need to release song packs of different genres. I hate country music but I bet those who like it would buy up some country tunes. How about a blues pack? Classic rock? Bluegrass? Grunge would be great. Numerous different genres of metal, punk, ska, hardcore, etc. These games haven't been interesting because the variety of songs is meh. "Dueling Banjos" would be an excellent versus song. And whats with still not being able to get master versions of some of these songs?

Oh, and for the record, I don't totally hate DF. I've got some cd's that I was given so that I could check them out. It's just that it IS very bubblegum metal, and you can't deny the cheese factor.

I mean, after they sing about themes like raising glasses in Valhalla, or slaying the beasts in the village, I almost find myself wanting to throw a pair of dice and shout "I'm attacking you with my +7 Dragon Sword! VMMMM VMMMMM!"

If you dig them, cool. Personally, I can't stand Rush, and hearing DF only reinforces my Rush disdain.

    MadDog1250

"BECAUSE GUITAR HERO LETS YOU PLAY MAD ASS RIFFS AT STUPID SPEEDS WITH EASE THATS WHY!!!!"

I know a lot of professional guitarists who get a kick out of hearing things like that.

I think a better way of putting it is, that Guitar Hero let's you play Simon at really, really fast speeds, to music that sometimes is good, and sometimes is crap.

most of you I see are following this theory...

    http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=126

There are some people in here who need to realize that good music is subjective. Difficult does not mean good and overplayed does not mean bad.

PixyMisao "Apparently Pencilpusher69 has finally done to himself what his name suggested. Dragonforce were formed in 1999. Not even close to the 80's, and if they have a teeny bopper fanbase that officially makes us old farts. Instead of reminding everyone how out of touch we are, let's pretend like this is a joke."

    Apparently you can't read.

I wrote: "Cheesed up version of 80's band". That doesn't say the band is FROM the 80's, but that they are a fascimile of that sound, sped up.

Listen to Rush, then listen to DragonForce.

They're cheesed up, and sped up.

For rock, I'll take Dimmu Borgir, Mastadon, or Fantomas!, thank you.

I don't give a fudge what people say about dragonforce because i think that they are awesome and some people just don't understand real talent when they see it.

  • MadDog1250

    Posted Jul 29, 2007 3:33 am GMT

How on earth can you say that these songs/ bands are sucking (i know most of you didnt say that, but a few did and i dont want to give the retards publicity of having their views expressed again )

Yes of course theres a couple of songs on there that make you go...wha???
But they need to be there, it cna't all be what you want it to be, otherwise it would be Guitar hero personalised soundtrack edition...tbh....

Im not a dragonforce fan. there i said it. But i guarantee that i am gonna end up playing the song over and over, why??? BECAUSE GUITAR HERO LETS YOU PLAY MAD ASS RIFFS AT STUPID SPEEDS WITH EASE THATS WHY!!!!

And the chili's are all over 40??? Maiden sucking because lack of metal vocals???? Well gee **** whizz, lets all get the 12 year olds we know, make em smoke fourty a day and down 2 bottles of jack just to make sure they can fill that special space in your life you feel should be occupied by 16 year old James hetfield soundalikes, bravo mate, piss off and go listen t trivium, your'e probably a fan, which explains a lot, without maiden, metal vocals wouldnt exist. tbh...

Suck my kiss is a perfect choice for their song, because A) its off one of their best albums. B) its not exactly a sellout we hear it 20 times a day on the radio c) you obviously werent born when it was released, and probably wouldn't understand its edginess (being as they had to change the original lyric, ill leave it to you to figure it) .

Ok, theres the usual cliched songs that you'll play once (I:e schools out, paint it black etc.) but i defy you to tell me you havent air guitared to them at least once in a pub/your preggers 13 y o sisters room! am i right, of COURSE I AM. Muse, tbh, fantastic choice, yes its overproduced, yeah its off the new album, yeah they couldve put ashamed, or yes please, or even plug in baby there to keep the die hards happy, but y'know what ??? I play the song on real guitar and that ending riff though very simple and only consisting of the 3, 5 , 7 notes on the d , a and e strings, still stands out as one of the funkiest to play, and will guarantee a shiver down yer back!!

Tenacious D, yeah a comedy sellout from a mediocre movie , but y'know what??? it incorprates some of the best classical pieces ever, (fur elise etc etc.) and puts them into a damned fun guitar riff , so there.

Anyway rant over, congrats if you read it all, just pointing out that moaning about the setlist is daft, its not gonna change, or affect the quality of the game, as ive show if its on there, its on there for a reason, im not a 40 year old guy clinging on to "the golden years", im not a spoilt 12 year old pretending to be knowledgable, im just an ordinary 20 year old lad with good knowledge of music and an open mind, and thats they way to be to enjoy this game, love to all

K obviously dragon force sucks cuz they dont realize what true talent is, they just like to play really really fast, they somehow found a way to turn music into a sport and their stupid chink ass guitar player can bite my fist, and their singer is a hardcore wierd al wannabe that needs to cut his crappy wavy long ass length hair. And we need to see some children of bodom or some dream theater, either one would please me in many ways you couldn't even imagine.

I still think they need to make a hardcore Guitar Hero game or put more hardcore in their games... They seem to be staying mainstream. At least give us heavy rockers a hardcore game like you did with "Rock The 80's"

Dragonforce is LAME, and they speed up their solos to make them sound faster. Overrated to the max. If you want real metal w/ better solos, check out Necrophagist.

lol thats funny, because apparently the intro is the easiest part of the whole song on real guitar. my friend plays and played it right off, but further attempts at the leads led to bloody fingers. not even joking. and he's been playing for like 10 years now, no hes not some noob trying to play dragonforce, he's good

all these new songs are disappointing....dragon force has great music but how they play it is totally gay red hot chili peppers' members are all like 40 years old and trying to sell to the same crowd that green day goldmined off of and iron maiden has sucked since they started because they never heard of metal vocals.....where the hell is that led zeppelin track that should of been on the first guitar hero? but some of these artists are very approved like heart, gnr,TD, and the stones
