Big-screen Hitman headlining Turok

Timothy Olyphant joins Donnie Wahlberg, Powers Boothe, and game-voice vets William Fichtner and Ron Perlman in Disney's upcoming shooter.

Today, Touchstone Games--a division of Disney Interactive Studios (nee Buena Vista Games) announced the voice cast for its PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 shooter Turok, due out next February. Though lead Gregory Norman Cruz (TNT's Saving Grace), who voices the titular dinosaur hunter, will likely be unfamiliar to most, his costars include some famous faces and voice-acting veterans.

Also appearing in Turok in audio form are Powers Boothe (Southern Comfort) and Timothy Olyphant (Go), who both had prominent roles in the critically acclaimed HBO series Deadwood. The two actors also have game connections: Boothe was featured in Midway's 2005 sci-fi shooter Area 51 (PC, Xbox, PlayStation 2), whereas Olyphant plays the iconic assassin Agent 47 in the forthcoming Hitman movie.

Another name on Turok's cast list includes one of the most prolific voice actors working in games today. Fresh off his turn as Lord Hood in Halo 3, Ron Perlman will also lend his trademark baritone to the game, just after he portrays the titular barbarian in THQ's Conan (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360). For over a decade, Perlman has worked on dozens of games, perhaps most famously as the narrator for the original Fallout, a role he'll reprise in Fallout 3 in late 2008.

Rounding out the Turok cast is omnipresent character actor William Fichtner, who was made famous in game form as slimy lawyer Ken Rosenberg in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and its sequel, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Boy-band-singer-turned-journeyman-actor Donnie Wahlberg will also make his game debut in Turok, which GameSpot previewed at the E3 Media & Business Summit in July.

All I got to add is Turok for the next gen consoles..is going to more than likely blow...It doesn't look like it's going to be anything more than the same games we've been seeing except this time with dinosaurs..they shoulda just kept it a classic...I really hope they don't screw it up.

For all you who are complaining that Jason Statham should play 47, you should be aware that he was offered the roll a few times and turned it down at each oppertunity.

That still doesn't change the fact that he would be awesome and Should still play 47. Just because he turned it down doesn't mean it's not a mistake or make him any less perfect for the role.

Jason Statham isn't right for the role. He's good, he did the Transporter very well, Crank was great, and The Italian Job was good, but I don't think he is the right fit.

I didn't know that Ken Rosenberg was in San Andreas too! I don't remember seeing him in that game. He had a pretty sizable role in Vice City.

What the hell?! Disney is help making Turok?! Man Disney is getting edgy these days...

What happened to the cute innocent Disney I grew up with and all the Toy Story games? Anyways, that's something I thought was interesting and didn't know until now. Let's hope the voice acting is as good as Konami's games such as Metal Gear and Silent HIll.

nemes1s3000, what are you talking about? There was nothing mentioned about a Turok movie. The article is talking about the voice actors in the upcoming Turok game. And Jurassic Park was a fantastic movie. The sequals weren't as good but still cool movies.

Agent 47 is supposed to be like in his 30's and in his prime, not some new punk teenager in his early 20's.

Yeah, Jason Statham would have made an awesome lead for the Hitman movie. Oh well, their loss.

The real question is will the voice acting budget damage the gameplay/polish budget and all I can say is yes....

this is going to be a game, not a movie. to bandit_haze: having a bunch of experienced actors and voice actors create an atmosphere of realism and believablity to the characters. don't you think that this directly affects your gameplay and how much you enjoy the game?

Looks like Turok is getting some talented voices involved. Seeing how Disney Interactive are part of making Turok, this comes as no surprise. And nemes1s3000, Turok is going to be a game, not a movie. Going to be awesome too!

i like William Fichtner. hes cool. ive noticed that the average looking actor...or the funny looking actor seems to be the best. i.e william fitchner, zach braff and that guy from last king of scotland. and the great quentin tarantino!!!

Timothy is a really good actor, and I trust he'll do really well in Hitman, as for the Turok movie, it's sounds like a good idea but then again Jurassic Park wasn't all that great.

Ron Perlman is a FANTASTIC voice actor, as is Bruce Campbell, but generally, celebrity names mean absolutely nothing to me or the gaming community. Get the gameplay right, and get good voice actors, big names are NOT necessarily good VA's.

is this what its come to,, the voice actor list is more important than the game play aspects...

anyway i like ron perlman, he's a good actor, he was in blade 2 and hellboy, though hellboy was a terrible movie

I'm still pissed HBO canceled Deadwood. Olyphant as Seth Bullock was great. Thank god The Wire is doing its last season or else HBO would have pulled the plug on that before a finale too.

something about Ron Perlman doing the voice of Conan just doesn't fit...

I suppose if they have the budget, why waste it on simple nothings when you can aquire true blue actors to voice potentially lame 3D characters

Obviously, DarkWolfwood, you haven't seen deadwood or perhaps just blind and deaf to the subtleties of Olyphant's performances. I've never cared for Hitman the game, but since Olyphant is so ideally casted for a "hitman" role, this is one of my most anticipated films. Watch some Deadwood or is the dialogue just a bit too high brow for you?

I'll maintain that John Malkovich should be Agent 47, since he pretty much played the role perfectly in Ripley's Game.
    http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ripleys_game/

Sure, he's way older than 47, but I'd gladly settle for someone that has proved that he can act.

Sure he may not look oh so 47ish, but after seeing the trailer I have to say, it looks amazing. And he does look quite good as 47 in the trailer. I don't get why fanboys are so uptight about everything down to the smallest details.

I agree. When Vin Diesel was attached to The Hitman role, I was all for it.

No offense to Vin, I mean sure he looks more the part then Olyphant does, but 47's best kills are done with a subdued style and finess, something I don't think that Vin could pull off to well, at least not while making it look good. Granted I have never really seen Deadwood so Olyphant may not be any better.

i think olyphant does kinda look threatening, but not in any way like Agent 47 should. More like a thin, insane "i like to stab things and laugh in a high pitched voice" kinda way.

  • Yojimbo8

    Posted Oct 2, 2007 6:36 pm GMT

I agree. When Vin Diesel was attached to The Hitman role, I was all for it. Jason Statham would also be great as Agent 47, as well. Timothy Olyphant -- not threatening enough. He's a little too "romantic comedy" for this part. But who knows, he could surprise me. (I'll wait til it's out on video...)

My question is why does such a lameass franchise need so many high profile voice actors? It'll probably cost more to hire all those guys than it did to develop the game.

"why is there a New Kids on the Block loser in my Turok game?"

Watch Band of Brothers. He's a good actor. He lost a ton of weight to play that kid in the beginning of The Sixth Sense. He's basically the inspiration for Johnny Drama, one of the only two decent characters in HBO's rapidly declining Entourage series. Frankly, I think he'd be in the same tier as his brother if he didn't pick such crappy roles after some great initial ones. It's bad when Saw II is his highest profile gig in a long time.

just every one stop and go back this to you how made this crap and let Timothy Olyphant have the lead role but even if theres no time to go back and get a better person for the role lets say JASON STATHAM
now that is a better lead role than tim that is the better choces and that will get he'll make you more money
