Konami numbers up across the board

Latest financials show healthy first-half consolidated results, games division cited as source.

Tokyo-based publisher Konami has released its figures for the company's first financial half-year, ended September 30, showing higher consolidated net revenues and consolidated operating income over last year.

Net revenues were ¥133.7 billion (approx $1.2 billion), up 12 percent over last year, and operating income was ¥13.042 billion ($117 million), a 30 percent increase. Income before taxes was ¥13.075 billion ($117 million), an increase of 32.3 percent, and net income ¥6.28 billion ($56 million), an increase of 23 percent.

The company stated that sports games such as the Winning Eleven and Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu series had done well, along with current titles in the Metal Gear series and "music-themed" games. In other divisions, Mah Jong Fight Club 6, Grandcross, and Bemani amusement machines recorded strong sales, as well as the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game.

    Konami is the reason my PSP is constantly at hand now. Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, Silent Hill Origins... all of these games kick some serious hind end. Konami will always hold a special place in my black, twisted heart for Silent Hill alone...

    Doesn't Metal Gear Solid as a great game? And from the list of games above, they sold the eccentric type of games that Japanese loves, maybe they sold that a lot

    @ebookerd1: Seriously, that's a good question, evenif just for curiosity sake. I honestly thought this article, based on the headline, was going to say, Konami was on it's deathbed. I haven't really been a fan of theirs, since the Nes, & SNes. I mean, when I would see the name anywhere, I'd look at whatever it was, 'cause the name's familiar to me, but I honestly can't remember the last game, by them, I owned. Huh...:/

    Capcom owns Konami! LOL jk. They both produce high quality games though, I sometimes the lines that seperate the two companies blur...

    I don't see why gamers should care about these numbers.... all we really need to know about is the amount of games publishers are putting out, and the quality of games.

    The only thing I hate about you konami is your crappy cheesy in game soundtracks in Pro evolution. They are CRAP.

    And please nail Pro evo 2008 Wii, its going to be nex gen footbal gaming.

    Good thing they've posted recently; they lost quite a chunk of stock when Metal Gear Solid 4 was delayed. That bit of information wouldn't be to hot for other investors either.
