Super Smash Bros. Brawl delayed again

North American release for Super Smash Bros. Brawl pushed back to March 9.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl--the hotly anticipated Wii brawler that was originally slated for release last year before being pushed back to February 10, 2008--has been delayed yet again. According to a statement from Nintendo of America, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will now be released in North America on March 9.

The Nintendo statement blamed a longer-than-expected development process for the delay. "As we're sure you have seen on the Dojo site, the game contains an unprecedented number of characters, options, and experiences," the statement said.

On Smash Bros. Dojo, designer Masahiro Sakurai even went so far as to apologize to fans, saying, "Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we've had to change the release date of the game to Sunday, March 9. I deeply apologize to the people who have looked forward to playing the game for so long, and ask that you hold on just a little longer. Thank you for your patience."

dammit they need to delay it so they can translate it and make the discs US/Canada/Latin American enabled so the US/Canada/Latin American made Wii's can be able to read those discs... unless you modded your Wii so it can read Japanese enabled discs AND if you got a Japan version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl imported from... uh Japan.

way 2 go nintendo youve delayed yet another game by 4 months

  • gamer_unleashed

The game is complete. It is in Japan and hundreds of videos are posted on youtube of the leaked characters (thats 35 in total). Why is it delayed then? they should have put a translate feature so you could select what language you would want to play in. Then the game would have been released worldwide and we would all be happy....

I hate how people are saying it's good they delayed it because it'll make the game better. They delayed the game to finish translating some trophies and stuff. That's it. Personally, I'd rather have the game a month earlier than have it translated 100% perfectly.

nintendokid it is called being optimistic. There are people in this world who will try to look at the bright side of things. Ever heard of it?

Brawl is finished development BTW. They have to translate the game. There is no " well they are delaying it to make it the best it can be." The game is finished with development. It has 35 characters and info of the game has been leaked everywhere. It is already released in Japan and people are posting gameplay vids on youtube and elsewhere. I just wanted to bring that up.

would you rather hae a buggy and bland game or would you rather have a game with lots of features and nearly no bugs? thats the reason they delay games, and besides, at least its not Blizzard (Great games, EXCRUSTIATING delays)

So they are telling us that a month is what they needed to fix, manufacture and distribute the game because its not done yet...stop telling us its going to be out on this or that day then. Like Blizzard and starcraft II, just tell us it will be ready when its ready. Who doesnt want the game to be great and for them to take their time to do so; but this pisses me off.

People don't understand, delay is a good thing, it means they care about their games. How many people have played a game that was pushed through too soon? It is usually buggy and it sucks. So take a moment and think about that, what would you rather have a great, well polished game, or a game that is pushed through quickly to make a few bucks, but is buggy and sucks?

The thing people have to realize is that this game has so many intricacies, that we're probably lucky we don't have to wait until June to get the game. There are just so many things that Nintendo has to eyeball and check over and fine-tune. Yes, the Japanese gave the game superb ratings, but the American audience is different, and I don't think anyone can deny that. Therefore, is doing their best to make this game as perfect as it can be. I for one can't wait to see what this game is like.

    Posted Jan 26, 2008 1:19 pm GMT

You people need to realize that the wait is the best part. While I may be dying for a game to be released (Guitar Hero 3...), I had more fun speculating, watching, and researching the game before it came out (the leaked setlist scandal was pretty fun, too). After it releases, well, it won't be as fun as it seemed before the game came out.

Flamedrakon, we're all waiting, but they ARE making it better. And if there's any problems that they can find in the Japanese version, they'll fix it for the America's. They're doing the best they can, and this game is going to be PERFECT! Dude, don't diss Nintendo. They are amazing programmers. Just fill in the wait with Melee or something.

I know you guys think it's ok for them to delay the realese for this game, but it's not. They're just ****ing with us, look nintendo was able to get wayyyy ahead of microsoft and sony with theire new technology in the wii, which proves that they rock, but this is ridiculous, those f*ckers are slacking off that's all. If they really were amazing programers, the game would be done by now. The only way they're going to make it up to their fans is by making the game less expensive when it comes out. It's just completly disrespectful.

DoctorQ (DQ), dude, Ness IS in brawl- he's confirmed. Just go to youtube and search "Lucario in Brawl" and look for this vid. It's leaked and accidently confirms Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Ness. It shows their symbols in the sticker mode, and shows that stickers can be applied to power up certain characters. It's awsome. Check it out. And Ike is sorta like Marth and Roy, so don't be too concerned if they aren't in Brawl. Good characters though. Peace.

A good game should not be rushed, the more time they put into the game the less glitches and errors there will be. Though I mainly play Xbox 360, I too play Wii and Nintendo does a very good job.

Running this whole GameTrax operation was a guy named Josh Larson. But after Broady, Kasavin, and others left GameSpot, Larson took over the editorial aspect of the site as well. So here you had Josh Larson -- the man behind selling sponsorships of editorial -- now placed directly in charge of the editorial itself. You tell me if you see any potential conflict of interest there. >
    >
Around the same time, Steven Colvin, known for having launched such publications as Stuff magazine, took over CNET's entertainment and lifestyle group, of which GameSpot is a part of. I don't know what his editorial influence has been on GameSpot, if any, but his track record didn't exactly point to editorial integrity as one of his prime values. Stuff magazine, for example, used to run game reviews that were written based off of screenshots and fact sheets, before the games were even playable to the press (I knew several freelancers who made lots of easy money from this). So yeah, you had the guy in charge of GameTrax and the guy who launched Stuff overseeing all editorial on GameSpot. And so the stage was set for the events of last November to unfold. Eidos paid a substantial amount of money to have its ads point to the GameSpot review of Kane & Lynch. The Kane & Lynch review wasn't very favorable. Eidos freaked. GameSpot caved. Internet exploded.
