SUDA-51: I want No More Heroes sequel

Punk fan and No More Heroes creator tells GameSpot that what he really wants is to make a second game.

No More Heroes is due to go on sale exclusively for the Wii on January 22 in the US, and February 29 in the UK. But the creator of the game, Goichi Suda, isn't exactly resting on his laurels.

Suda told GameSpot that what he really wants to do now is to make a sequel. When asked what games he was working on right now, he laughed, "It's a secret!" Then he confessed, "Actually, I'm really willing to make a sequel version--and right now I'm asking if it can be made...I think No More Heroes is a great game, there's no other action game like it for the Wii. If it was a band, it would be really energetic, like the Arctic Monkeys."

Goichi Suda--or SUDA-51 (Go and Ichi mean Five and One in Japanese)--gave a talk at last year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, where he praised "punk"-style games, and said that he hated creating the same kind of games that other people do.

The Killer7 director is also currently working on porting two of his previously released titles in Japan to the DS--Flower, Sun and Rain, and Silver Case. As if this wasn't enough, he is also working on a "top secret" Xbox 360 project with Konami.

When asked about why the game was changed in the US to become gorier, whereas Europeans are to get the original Japanese version, he said that he made the decision because he thought pure action games went down better in Europe whereas the Americans liked their games ultraviolent. He said, "In the European and Japanese versions, there's more of an action style to the game. For instance, when you kill characters in this version of the game, the coins come out straight away... And the American market has more of a predilection to a more violent version. I don't want anyone to misunderstand--neither version is better. I love both versions."

    Wait...so all this time...USA had a diffrent version while Europe and Japan had the original version?! I thought it was the other way around!

    So Suda51 apirently thinks (some?) American gamers love loads of blood? Well...it actully sorta boosted up the game for those types of gamers who love tons of blood in a game, I guess. Oh well, at least Suda51 didn't tried to change Travis Touchdown from a young aged guy who loves anime and video games to some generic guy who has big mucles and says something like "Time to kick a$$ and chew buble gum....and I'm all out of gum." (Note that the using qoute is from a game I sorta like)

    i agree with lunar52 i game was left very open at the end and i reeeaaalllly want there to be a sequel so i can find out what happens after... hehe i'm telling

    Great, now not only will I buy the sequel, But I also will have to buy the European versions of NMH 1 and 2! Just because I like this game so much.

    So far critics love it, and I hope that the trend continues. I was worried about not being able to play this because of brawl, but the delay has helped put money into suda51's pockets... at least I hope so.

    If they refined No More Heroes into a sequal fixing some of the few problems witht he game we could be sitting on a gold mine here.

    Well ShackR he did make the game, so he knows how it turned out. Developers know after finishing up a project whether it is good or not, and he really believes that he did a good job, and that the game merits a sequel. While Suda may not follow the general development template, he is still your average developer and he knows quality.

    This is one of the few games that makes me want a Wii at all. (but I am glad Wii owners get some cool games) "Xbox 360 project with Konami" Sign me up!

    K7 was weird and just plain wrong on so many levels. This game is weird and belongs in the bargain bin. Let's talk about real games and real director's instead.

    Suda 51 is awesome. His first game rocked and I can't wait for no more heroes (and a wii lol). The game reminds me of "Kill Bill".

    Don't you think it's a little early to commit to making another No More Heroes? I'm just saying that he should just see how the first game turns out, that's all.

    While you can't help but admire Suda-51's enthusiasm, he better have a talk with Ubisoft as of RIGHT NOW in terms of how they're going to advertise this game. That is really the only way that No More Heroes is going to get noticed enough to even having a chance of selling. While Ubisoft has done a fair job of marketing its games, it has to be serious about trying to sell this game. If that happens, perhaps there will be Wii owners out there that are willing to give this game a shot. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but without an aggressive marketing push, this game isn't going to do that well, blood or no blood.

    In any case, I wish it well.

    I feel bad for this guy. He probably wont be able to make a sequel on the Wii financially. Maybe he should try a much more profitable hardcore system like the 360/PS3. I might pick it up...

    I would so much rather seeing blood explode out of guys like in Killer7 than stuoid coins. I mean im from Canada, but i don;t think that cause im from a different country its gona make me more prone to liking violent games. He just saw what happened to violent games in the UK (cough manhunt 2 cough), and those asians just like their crazy flashy games,and coins just seem to fit better.

    What I love is that America is viewed by the rest of the world as the last country of warriors, the only place in the world where "ultraviolence" is acceptable. But SUDA-51 is right on, there would be people in the states complaining that it was cartoon-ish without the gore.

    I agree with Nintendo_Ownes7 on this one. If No More Heroes is to be successful here in the States, Ubisoft really needs to leverage the vast amount of publishing power here and make sure it gets the amount of marketing it deserves. No More Heroes received a rather depressing reception in Japan in terms of sales, despite critical reception, and while that may be in part due to the declining gaming market over there, I hope Ubisoft takes things up a notch and ensures that it will at least fight to get noticed. It really looks like a game that for the Wii that should shine amidst the mediocre PS2 ports, minigame compilations, and other shoddy games with which the system has been inundated.

    So here's hoping No More Heroes does well here and that Suda's wish comes true.

    This gives me great confidence that No More Heroes is going be quite exceptional. Maybe not a perfect scores all around, but maybe one of those games that will develop a kind of cult status.

    A sequel to No More Heroes already? Cool! Now I am even more excited when No More Heroes comes out! Suda51 is definitely a very active developer of games.

    If the game is half as cool as the preview on On The Spot a couple weeks back, then I'm totally down for this! Hell, I'm gonna pick it up anyways...but it's sounding like an excellent little time-killer!

    North America is the only region getting blood in their No More Heroes? Well, that's kind of cool, but I'm sure they worked hard to make the "black cloud" effects work, so I hope we get that option too. Also, they shouldn't punish the rest of Europe for how stupid the rating boards are in the UK and Germany.

    I already pre-ordered my Copy, So I did my part and I Hope there is a Sequal, Ubisoft needs to Market it good. Also I told a couple of people at school about this and one said he will rent it first, and the other wasn't really paying attention because he was mad because I told him Smash Bros. Brawl got delayed until March 9th.

    Almost beat it once and was thinkin bout gettin the Euro version just for the translation of the booklet (it's a Comic Book) but if even HE is already hoping for a sequel, YES PLEASE!! Can't wait to see what he'll come up with next
