GTAIV rolling out April 29

Latest in the Grand Theft Auto series to be released worldwide in just over three months for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

One of the most anticipated games of 2008 has been given a firm release date. Rockstar Games has issued a statement saying that Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV will be released simultaneously for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 worldwide on April 29. A release date of April 25 had previously been rumoured for the UK, though some leaks of US retail materials pointed to a March release. It had originally been set for an October 2007 release, and its shock delay to 2008 was blamed on the "time-intensive nature" of dual-platform development.

The latest iteration of the series follows the adventures of Eastern European immigrant Nikolai Bellic as he searches Liberty City for an as-yet-unnamed person from his past. The release, which some analysts see as having the potential to outsell Halo 3, could provide a major boost for Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive, which has struggled financially over recent quarters.

For more information about Grand Theft Auto IV, see GameSpot's recent preview.

well since there has been demos shown of the 360 version and not the PS3 version, i'd say its the damn PS3 thats keeping this game from releasing sooner.

The industry NEEDS this game, its plain and simple.
GTA is unique and it brings in a load of people into the industry, and whether the government likes it or not (if hilary becomes president.... look out...) GTA is something that alot of people enjoy.
Games let you in on things and let you explore it how you like.

I can drive round in a GTA city, stopping at every light (fair enough, the odd lady ends up hopping into my ride..) but its up to me whether or not I should commit crimes or just drive about.

This is why I hope there is more to it than just missions. Give everyone a bit of something to do. I don't play these kinds of games usually, but GTA is something I always take a pit-stop for

Pretty much everyone has heard of grand theft auto, so the series is a massive part of the industry whether people like it or hate it.
GTA III pretty much made the ps2 get its feet firmly in the ground, but now its on the 360 and ps3 - yet, it is STILL one of the biggest and most anticipated games ever.

The thing about this game is that it will sell all year along, unlike alot of other games.
A gta game brings in more people, and it sells more consoles.

i'm a little bit upset because on those months (May-June) i have to begin to study for the university... I think that those months are not appropriate for such a game as GTA (witch is highly addictive)

Unfortunately this site is riddled with 360 fan boys, inside and out, the point is this game will be the biggest to date even on one console eg. 360 or ps3 alone... Halo has never been anything more than a linear first person shoot 'em up with no depth, designed for people with the attention span of a 12 year old.

GTA series has always beaten, and will always beat video game sales records. Halo is not in even close to GTA's league. GTA..more addicting than herion or pussi!

Hey WORLDCUPIRIAN201, the Ps3 ver. of the game will not feature any downloadable content only the 360 ver. of the game. Rockstar, the makers of GTA, has confirmed that the ps3 was the reason for the delay. They was having technical problems with sony's hardware and they wasn't trying to admit to that before until now. If you don't believe me go to computerandvideogames.com or you can google it with this title "PS3 THE REASON FOR GTA DELAY". You'll find the actual article on this. A rep at rockstar said that both ver. of the game will be identicle, but to play the "FULL" experience you'll have to get the xbox 360 version.

Well Guess we can all thank the ps3 ver for all the delays. But on the plus side of things we'll all be playing a better games thanx to to the delay. Still...to play the complete ver. of the game everyone will have to but the xbox 360 ver.

Im looking forward to just driving around and taking in the sights You know, I have all the GTA games - and fondly remember playing the first one when it first came out on the playstation (listening to the radio especially ).
But I have never, ever, completed a GTA game. I just love to roam around and unlock things.

San Andreas is truely amazing, such a seamless and varied environment - and the selection of music was astounding for a game. Everything about the car physics to the exploration was just right.

I have high-hopes for this game, however with things removed like planes etc - I really hope that there is more than just the city to explore.
I have enjoyed how the series has given us more and more each time, building ontop of the already amazing engine.

But taking away features... I just hope its full-featured and have places like out of the city to drive around. Otherwise san andreas on the PC is going to never get old

Any dual platform game has the potential to outsell Halo 3! But could just the 360 or PS3 version achieve that mark alone?

Yeah hope the six months extra dev time has been used to polish this to perfection. Lol when they say this has the potential to beat halo 3 on sales figures of course it does as it is dual release on both Xbox360 and Ps3 with it been the Ps3 biggest release to date they of course it has twice the potential audience.

I think it just too long too wait. I mean c'mon...April? RockStar wants to deliver an great experience I understand that, but I was at least thinking that the game would be done a month earlier. Watch out for the penny and dime gauging because I bet what they're doing now is just making downloadable content. They may be finished with the game, but I bet they're only workin' on downloadble content now...

BUT IM STILL BUYING IT!!! Go APRIL!

Give them one chance, and they all want more. I didnt even mention the content of the game, just it's controversial nature will have them attempt to ban it if they succeed in banning Manhunt 2.
