Aerosmith to become Guitar Heroes

"Love in an Elevator" rockers will get their very own installment in the popular franchise, set to be released in June.

Months after the cat first got out of the bag, Activision today confirmed Aerosmith will be the first band to get a Guitar Hero game all to themselves. Titled, unsurprisingly, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the game is the first of the upcoming editions in the rhythm series promised during Activision's investor call last week to become reality.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will follow the career of the band, from its first gig to playing packed out stadiums at the height of its fame and will feature a bounty of classic Aerosmith tracks, along with tracks from bands and artists that have performed with Aerosmith or were an inspiration to the band.

Real-life Aerosmith guitar legend Joe Perry commented, "It's great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get and experience music in new formats--and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands."

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock owners will be able to download the Aerosmith track "Dream On" for the game for free to celebrate the upcoming game's release. It will be available for free on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network between February 16 and 18.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 2. Neversoft is developing the PS3 and 360 versions, Vicarious Visions the Wii version, and Budcat the PS2 version. The game is expected to launch this June.

I don't really think it should be Aerosmith. They had good music but not exactly the strongest guitar licks. I think it should be Guitar Hero: Led Zeppelin because Jimmy Page did alot of intense and different music styles and if Rock Band did it it would have to be Rock Band: The Who.

Aerosmith sucks majorly. Guys must have been reliving the glory days on some acid when they came up this crap idea. Then again Activision never really was a good company.

I see this as a cheap way to increase song sales for the band and a cheap way for Activision to cash in on an already lucrative franchise. They could of done all this over content download.

Common people. Actually read it! Its not just aerosmith... " Aerosmith tracks, along with tracks from bands and artists that have performed with Aerosmith or were an inspiration to the band. " Did you guys see that?? Aerosmith toured with metalica, guns n roses, acdc, some led zepplin and many classic rock bands. Dont just expect to see aerosmith...

It's limiting for sure, and Aerosmith had a couple great songs, but I wouldn't pay 50 or 60 bucks for it! The guys making the games have to know that not every single person on the planet is rich and carries around stacks of money. GH3 had some good songs, and so will this one, but it has no comparison to the prices the companies are throwing out.

I won't be getting this mainly for the fact that there is no variety in the songs, its all aerosmith. I like them, but when I'm playing Guitar Hero, or Rock band, or even Elite Beat Agents, I want different artists to keep me on my toes. Besides this is just an expansion pack it seems, basically Guitar Hero Encore: Aerosmith. We all know how bad Rock the 80's was right.

This looks pretty cool, I just hope they don't make the game cost $50. They prabably will though. If they keep doing these band special guitar heroes I hope they make a Guns N' Roses one.

This should have been dowloadable content ONLY. No use releasing a full game for one band. This should have sold as a downloadable pack a la "full album downloads" for Rock Band.

I don't think Aerosmith will be the only band in the game...check this out from the press release: "As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith's greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way."

There might be bonus songs from other bands, maybe that opened for Aerosmith or maybe that inspired them...that leaves it wide open for quite a few bands!

If you people are just buying the game for the music in the game, that's pretty dumb. THink about it most of the music in those games are crap anyway, so why're you arguing over Aerosmith? If you ask me, it's nothing but an improvement.

Dire Straits should be in Guitar Hero, but you don't see me arguing about that.

The idea of a one-band game does seem rather limiting. Yes, it has other bands on there, but indeed the focus is on the "star" of this show. I would think that this would get boring really quickly unless the person was a die-hard fan who just can't get enough Aerosmith. Personally, I think this is a bad move. I agree that it would be better as a down-loadable add-on or expansion pack. It just doesn't seem like it would sell as many units as they are anticipating because they are overestimating the market for the appeal of one band. Also, to continue this model with other bands, the band would have to have the long-time popularity, continuity, and extensive catalog of Aerosmith, which is a rare band indeed; only the Rolling Stones immediately come to mind.

I do think the one band thing is strange. Particularly Aerosmith. There are so many other bands that have fantastic libraries that you could rock out to.

    Uh, Led Zeppelin anybody?

Nontheless, I think it unwise to focus on one band. Even if it WERE Led Zeppelin.

Eh, I'm not sure if this is such a good idea, one band only? We shall have too wait and see. In the meantime, after the game is released, I'd like to see some or all of the tracks in this game featured as DLC for Guitar Hero III for those of us who enjoy some aerosmith but prefer a nice variety. Anybody agree with me?

This isn't a bad idea, but you can't expect to sell it at FULL PRICE! That's ridiculous! Especially for Aerosmith, who have only had maybe 3 ACTUAL rock songs come out since the 70's.

This is by far the stupidest idea for a game I've ever seen. I love guitar hero just for the fact that they introduce new music to people that would have never heard these bands on there own. Also the fact that the songs are all challenging picking the songs with the best most creative riffs and solos. Seriously who is this going to sell too, old people (i'm 25 so its not just 10 yearolds complaining).... who is seriously excited to play all Aerosmith songs. Granted that I hate Aerosmith and think they are just cheesy pop rock. Even if it was a band that I loved to death I want diversity. This game is going to be as bad as that 80's version that they released most likely worse. Good job at sucking Guitar Hero, Rock Band already went to way of making POP music, to appease the morons that think they know what rock is. Oh well may the corporate hands strangle you till your dead, they should call this installment POP HERO. F-ing lame.

Aerosmith are a good band, but I think a band like Metallica or Nirvana would sell alot more copies. I think this is the right direction for GH games to go, but they just need to be careful of which bands they choose to sell.

About 1% out of that 10-20 likes Aerosmith.

So anyone with an IQ over 5 can see this will not sell.

I just hope it's like there're saying here and not just aerosmith songs cause that will be a real piece of Sh**.

For all of you who maybe forgot to read the article be for posting it states"and will feature a bounty of classic Aerosmith tracks, along with tracks from bands and artists that have performed with Aerosmith or were an inspiration to the band. " considering thye have released something like 14 albums one can assume there would be 14 co lineing acts as well as14 opeaning acts. And who can say that they dont have 1000000 inspirations. My guess is 2 songs out of every set list will be areosmith origionals and maybe one cover by a more modern band.

God, you 10 year olds are so stupid sometimes. Maybe they didn't do Zeppelin since HE DOESN'T LICENSE HIS TRACKS!!!!!!!!!! Get it through your heads that it's not just Activision pulling artists and tracksout of midair.

Like so many have said before: If you don't like it don't buy it.

Also if you're 10, you wouldn't know classic rock if it hit you in the face. You think Zep, floyd and hendrix are the only classic rockers. Yea right...

This could be the end for Guitar Hero. Rock Band already destroys it, but Aerosmith? One band? When you get tired of the band the game goes in the trash, and now it's not even a fun party game (who wants to keep the same sound song after song???)

    Rock Band ftw.
