Sony lines up GT5 Prologue vehicles, tracks

Polyphony Digital's simulation racer to feature more than 70 cars, including old classics and new models, six tracks with alternate routes.

Although Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 has been on the production line for some time, the game has proved to be more elusive that spotting an exotic supercar on the streets. However, racing fans may soon find temporary relief in the form of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, a "lite," stripped-down addition to Sony's seminal racing series.

Sony Computer Entertainment today confirmed that more than 70 vehicles will feature in the PlayStation 3 game. Old favourites will make a comeback, including the Nissan GT-R, Honda Integra Type R, Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and the Dodge Viper GTS. Along for the ride will be a plethora of car models including the prancing horse, with four Ferrari models queuing up on the starting line.

Available on Blu-ray Disc or as a download over Sony's PlayStation Network, GT5 Prologue is the first in the series to support online play, with up to 16 racers being able to compete on track. Additionally, GT5 Prologue will feature split-screen for head-to-head local multiplayer, as well as a drift mode and extensive options for in-car tuning and telemetry tweaking.

Polyphony previously announced that the Dunsfold Park test track from the BBC's Top Gear would feature in Gran Turismo 5, as well as 40 episodes of the show through the game's Gran Turismo TV feature on PSN. It looks as if GT5 Prologue will miss out on the test track, but owners will still be able to download episodes via GT TV.

SCE also confirmed some of the tracks that will feature in the game, including Eiger Nordwand (previously seen in Gran Turismo HD Concept), Daytona International Speedway, London City Track, Fuji Speedway, Suzuka, and the High Speed Ring, all with alternative layouts.

GT5 Prologue is currently on track for a March release in Europe and April in the US. Prologue's bigger brother, Gran Turismo 5, is expected to appear sometime in 2008.

I sure hope GT5 has more Mustang models available. I'm holding out for a 2003 Mustang V6 Convertible

Seems they didn't over do the JP cars this time around. However, I would like to see more versions of American cars, as well as Porsches and Lamborginis. Also, where are the Toyotas? No Supras?

The best thing that the GT series is going to have is the online mp. I’m going to buy a PS3 this summer and I'll try the GT5-Demo. Still Forza 2 damage, car customization and the online part is really tuff to beat. All my friends are GT Fans but still recognize that Forza is a great game. If you are a “Petrol-Head” like me you still love this kind of game no matter what brand is or witch console is.

Doesn't anyone remember when they were thinking of charging extra for more cars and tracks, on top of what you would pay for the game? Everyone called bull****, and they pulled back. Instead they're just gonna make us pay for a preview of a game that will come out at the end of the year and cost 60 bucks anyway? Why isn't anyone calling bull**** now? I'm not paying 100 bucks for gran turismo. I'll just wait till the full game comes out.

"pretty sweet. thats a lot of cars for a racing game. can't wait for it"

lol no it isn't. Have you ever played a full Gran Turismo game? GT4 had over 600 cars I think. The full GT5 is supposed to have even more than that, with all the car's interiors done and everything. This game, along with FFXIII and MGS4 will help developers see what can be done on Blu-Ray, and more great PS3 exclusives will be on the way.

For those with short memories, a Prologue, or Concept, has been done for GTs since the PS2 was released, and the full versions sold incredibly well. Of course it won't sell as well as GT5, but it'll sell well in it's own rights, and how many games like GT5 are out on PS3 at the moment? How this game goes will be a pretty interesting guide as to exactly where the PS3 is at, compared to previous generations.

As I am one who sells games, I wonder how the sales of a $40 demo ( I can't believe I just typed that) will hinder or help the sales of the $60 complete game. Sony needs to include some sort of voucher, I would say somewhere around $20 off the complete GT5 to make it even worth getting. Are there that many people willing to drop a total of $100 because their too impatient to wait for the full version??

Well, I guess you could always trade in the demo, but we all know what a losing proposition that is.

Now all they have to do is announce that the extra tracks and cars that ship with the full version will be downloadable for a discount over the cost of the full game and this could actually be a decent deal.

I was gonna buy the prologue but after reading this I am not. Only 2 Chevy's and they are the same model. But nevermind all those stupid skylines you can never have too many of those. It is so stupid. And that isn't even my major complaint. What about the actual racing? There is none, there never has been any. They keep mentioning better AI but then when the game came out in Japan notice how no one has mentioned this. Unfortunately the current next best thing is NFS PS which blows, I'm still sorry I bought it.

I'm waiting for GRID if you want a good looking "Racing" game not just driving, then go look that up.

This is the first GT games I have ever wanted to play as there have always been better alternatives until now. This game is sure to be THE driving game of choice as it is so large a scale passionate development title. If the screens and movies I have seen regarding this game are any indication, this game will have no peer for quite some time. May possibly be the last driving game ever, or for at least the next ten years.

PSdual_wielder Hehe, the full game of Forza doesn't even match GT5 prologue. Gran Turismo will remain the superior console driving sim.
    ************************************************
Are you on crack? Go and check the stats on Forza 2 again. It has way more content then this demo you guys are forking $40 over for and Forza 2 is FREE when you guy a 360 Premium system. lol!! Superior driving sim with no damage and AI cars that rubberband back onto it's programmed rail? Hahahaha!! No, just no. GTR 2 is a more realistic racing sim.

kwasi86 70 cars 6 tracks lots of depth in modes n people are still complaing lol sorry but i cant call this a demo, there are other racing games that dont even match to this n there not even demos

and i honestly dont think the full version of gta 5 is coming out this year proable not till early 09, thats just my opinion

    *********************************************************
Then you realize that the FULL version of the game will come with 700 cars and 60 tracks for just $20 more and you say, "Hhhmm.. maybe I'll just wait for the FULL GT5 version." I'm not paying for a game twice, just to play the game a few months earlier. To me, that's just dumb. You are only getting 1/10 of the full version of the game for $40. That's a ripoff!!

What they need to announce is that there will be a downloadable add-on that upgrades it to the full game for $20 when GT5 does come out. Then I'll hop on board... though I must say that the car selection isn't exactly on the same level as GT4. Not even close really. I know it's "Prologue", but still.

@ Those saying it's just a pricey demo:

Way I see it, there's a TON of GT fans out there waiting to play GT5. Guess what? GT5 isn't finished yet and won't be until the end of the year or next year. Rather than make everyone wait, marketing was smart and said "let's release a version that isn't the complete experience but is a good portion of it to hold people over AND make some money" and that's exactly what it is. For $40 (a tad pricey), you get a big taste of what GT5 will be and you're going to get PLENTY of play time with 60+cars, 6 tracks, and, wait for it.....wait for it....16 player online racing. $40 is a bit of money but is GT5 Prologue worth it? I say YES!

well ive tried the prologue demo, and i have to say forza doesnt match it, forza is a good game but compared to gt5 its a lesser game.

gt5 prologue is a superb deal, i pre ordered mine for £17.99 including delivery for a budget price with 6 tracks and around 75 cars its a steal.

the online should be great with 16 cars on track and the gt-tv is a good addition.

theres some idiots on here moaning that this is a demo lol, its a budget price game with much content for the price.

the full game once released will be superb, i doubt it very much that even the new forza once it ever comes out will be able to match gt5. i mean forza didnt have an in car view coz of dvd restrictions. plus gt5 features 16 players online if u dont wanna buy it then dont, no ones forcing u, but at £17.99 its a great title to have. this game isnt a demo , id much rather have this than forza full game

see you all online (for free)
