Guitar Hero DS officially going On Tour

Activision officially announced that portable version of its popular rhythm action game will be coming this summer.

When Activision trademarked "Guitar Hero: On Tour" back in January, there was speculation that the title was going to be for the DS version of the game, although the company wouldn't officially comment.

Today Activision is ready to talk, and has confirmed that the DS version of the game will indeed be called Guitar Hero: On Tour. The game is due out sometime this summer.

The game will come with a Guitar Grip peripheral for the portable that will sport only four fret buttons, versus the full-sized edition's five. The add-on will also contain a Guitar Hero pick-cum-stylus that will be used on the touch screen to strum along to songs.

The game will feature a one-player career mode, co-op play over wireless, and a two-player battle mode called Guitar Duel. The battles will see the two players strum it out in more than just the rhythm stakes. Activision explains, "For example, players must blow into the microphone to extinguish a pyrotechnics effects gone wrong, or use the touch screen to autograph a crazed fan's shirt in the middle of their set."

There will be five unlockable venues and six characters to play, and gamers will be able to customise their characters and choose the colour of their axe. The game is also said to feature "the most diverse set list of master tracks ever offered in a Guitar Hero game," and will include classic rock, alternative, and pop tunes. Artists named so far are Nirvana, OK Go, and No Doubt.

Guitar Hero: On Tour is being developed by Activision-owned Vicarious Visions and is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 or older.

Does anyone know if it will be compatible with the original DS. If not i shall resort to using my sisters PINK ds lite

I suppose you'd hold it like you would hold the DS playing Brain Training.
Sideways with your finger poking from the aside of the touch screen.
Great idea, hope they pull it off!

Fantastic Idea! If they execute this right it should be a keeper, many people are questioning the sound quality and the guitar grip. Elite beat agents proved sound quality can be good on the DS, and if you had, like a few have said, a small guitar plug in, how the hell would you play it? Especially on the move, it'd be insane, hand held consoles already occupy the hands

    "and pop tunes."

I hate to say it, but I don't think this game is going to have a great songlist.

yeah i think a mini guitar peripheral (with a strum bar) would be cool but the "Guitar Grip" might work out just fine too.

I think it's cool, however, it does seem very different from what guitar hero fans are used to and i hope its not awkward.

    no 5th fret..........?

Nice to see they're using some creativity, wouldn't have expected the GBA slot to be used like this. Lets hope some of the other devs pick up on this concept and expand on it

In my Opinion it would be better if you could plug in a Smaller Guitar but hey that design might work just needs time to get used to in my Opinion

Question is will the 4-button set-up simplify the game, or will they adjust the difficulty to accomodate for the missing button?

the concept is great, and ive been waiting forever for guitar hero ds, but im not sure about this one. it looks like you have to cross your arms to play the thing, which seems awkward. also, the difficulty probably wont be high enough with only four frets. hopefully im wrong though and itll turn out ok

Whether i buy the game depends on the song list and the sound quality.

The only place I've played Guitar hero has been on display at best buy. Don't get me wrong the game rocks. I just haven't felt like purchasing it for home play. Now this DS version I can go for. being able to play Guitar Hero at the office or anytime I want sound like fun. Way to go nintendo!

Ok Go ripped off Billy Joel... I'm sick of hearing of their plagairising asses.

Anyway, if it doesn't have a completely crap soundtrack, and is cheap, I may consider it. Haven't bought the home versions cause no way I am paying $90, for a plastic baby's guitar.
