Sony turns up GT5 Prologue soundtrack

Latest installment in Polyphony Digital's racer to feature exclusive remixes of Weezer's "Automatic," Mars Volta's "Goliath," among others.

With Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 Prologue quickly approaching its April 17 North American release exclusively on the PlayStation 3, Sony has kicked up promotion of the street racing title into hyperdrive. Earlier this month, the publisher revealed a roster of more than 70 vehicles slated to appear in the game, as well as six racing tracks that all feature alternate routes. Today, Sony laid down tracks of another kind, revealing the full list of musical acts appearing in the game.

To headline GT5 Prologue's soundtrack, Sony has commissioned two exclusive remixes for Weezer's "Automatic" and Mars Volta's "Goliath." Other acts slated to appear in the North American version of the game include DJ Shadow's remix of Jimi Hendrix's "Love Love," Justice's "Let There Be Light," and Thin Lizzy's "The Rocker (Richard Evans Mix)." Sony has also signed on a number of international artists, including Nittoku Inoue, naomee, and Goose.

Out in Japan since December and set for release this week in Europe, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be available in North America next month as both a digital download through the PlayStation Network or at brick-and-mortar retailers for $39.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I don't really care for the music in games either...I always turn music off and just listen to the sweet sound of the engines (especially with Manual Shift Transmission)

If you guys are still sitting here and saying "this isn't worth $40" after all the extra cars, tracks, new features, and now songs for the soundtrack they've put in, you are either (a) an anti fanboy to something related to GT5, or (b) ask for way to much from your games.

Again, glad to see them stepping things up. Their under a lot of criticism, and I think this continues to make Prologue look like a better and better idea. This will be a system selling in April, and I'm sure it will do extremely well. I'm looking forward to it.

Racing games are stale. Nothing new has come to the table in years and they are just there to look pretty.

Last time I played GT was GT3. I'm gonna get this game for sure; already have the Logitech G25. I don't know these artists, but if they sound like the EuroBeat from Initial D, I'll sure like them.

I'm all for one-off bands and songs as long as they're good. I just hope it doesn't feel like the same three or four songs over and over again like it did in Gran Turismo 4.

I never have the music on when i race so this doesnt really bother me either way, im more concerned about the engine sounds than i am music.

A good list of songs but what happened to Boom Boom Satellites which they used for their promo videos? Is it at least in the Japanese version?

"Makaveli6666666 Wasted their time making this extended demo. Should have just concentrated all efforts into the final game. Pathetic"

I know what you're saying and personally I'd agree. But everyone has their opinion and I think there are 2 factors here

    1. Many GT fans usually can't wait, so a "stop gap" is a great treat for them

    2. Sony make a lot of cash out of this, because a lot of people (from another post sounds like 1 million pre-orders in PAL alone) buy it and then pay again for the final game

So appears to be a win-win for both.

But like I said I'd rather leave the Prologue and wait and pay once for the full game, and that's exactly what I've done so far for GT, GT2, GT3 and GT4.

Soundtrack=LAME. I mean, the most notable is Weezer, and they're terrible, so this will probably be the worst licensed soundtrack of the year.

    Blech.
Well, it could be worse; they could always put Snoop Dogg back in the track list again.... *shudder*
Here's to hoping there's a custom soundtrack option in the FULL version of GT5.

its funny how ppl are on hear moaning about its only a demo.... i dont kno about u but if some one said to me you can wait a yr for the game or u can buy it for a cheap price ( its only 18quid ere in uk ) and have an extended go of it, plus online play, or wait a yr to just get a few extra tracks n cars, id rather be playing it now ( well this week when it drops out on friday which is the day i get paid so thats good for me and for everyone else that gets paid at the end of the month) if u dont like it, there not forcing u to buy it, be a cheapskate and go n borrow a friends version of it for the chance to play it, n in europe i think most ppl will download this game, as its already sold out everywhere, and its not even out yet, 1st game to sell over a million copies... and its only a demo... must be a pretty good demo i say.

I bet most of the people complaining about the music, never even heard the songs listed. How would you know if they're bad or not if you don't give the songs a chance? The type of music that is usually on Gran Turismo songs are always fitting for the game. I'm pretty sure they got it right this time too.
