Metal Gear Solid 4 LE GameStop-exclusive, gunmetal PS3 NA-bound

$84.99 premium package includes two "making of" documentaries and a soundtrack CD; hardware bundle to also see regular and "very" limited editions--the latter with a special gray PS3.

With a little more than two months to go before Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots finally arrives in stores, Konami and Sony detailed today the many ways in which customers will be able to add the game to their collections.

It was already confirmed that the game would be available on its own or with a PlayStation 3 on June 12, but today it was announced that both the game and the hardware bundle will come in standard-edition and limited-edition packages.

The limited-edition game, which will be available exclusively at GameStop stores, will include a soundtrack CD and a pair of all-new "making of" documentaries featuring interviews with series creator Hideo Kojima. Those bonuses come at a premium: The limited edition of the game will sell for $84.99 instead of the standard edition's $59.99. Those who buy either edition from GameStop can also get a Metal Gear Solid 4 art book at the time of purchase, while supplies last.

A post on Sony's PlayStation blog confirmed that a limited-edition hardware bundle would also be available at launch, and that it would include the coveted gunmetal-colored versions of the PS3 system and controller. However, the post didn't specify how much it would cost or where gamers would be able to buy it, saying only that it would be a "VERY, VERY Limited Edition bundle."

Gamers can also get access to the Metal Gear Online beta through the previously announced Metal Gear Saga preorder bonus program at participating retailers. The beta period runs from April 21 through May 5, but gamers will be able to download the program to their systems starting on April 17.

Shame on you Hideo Kojima! $84.99 for this piece of junk! where is the cool looking UK Figure of Jack with the bonuses there getting man screw the UK! Especially if you don't care what us US players want more bonuses!! the US is getting so boring with the Limited Edition stuff accept the GTA-4 Edition that was cool but the rest is worthless!.Quit over pricing games based on the LE version if all we get is crap!=(

Yeah, calling this commercial exploitation is a bit extreme - besides, the LE is completely worth it in my opinion because of the soundtrack CD alone.

Dude, did GS just have the balls to link this story with the phrase "Commercial Explotation"? Ok, that just confirmed GS's bias toward 360. Sorry GS,but last time I checked,MGS4 didnt have a dam MT.Dew flavor named after it.There isnt a stupid special edition with a stupid master chief bust included. We all know your in bed with Micro$oft GS, but make it a little less obvious.

The gun metal gray ps3 is a 40gig ps3 and cost a hundred bucks more, but it does come with the limited edition 85 dollar edition of mgs4 as opposed to the cheaper that has a 80gig and the "normal" edition of the game. you could take that 100 bucks and buy the limited edition and trade in your regular copy. But than you wouldn't be uber-cool and have the grey die hard mgs fan ps3. so tough call.

Caseysrodeo-their is a VERY, VERY limited amount being made. I heard (this is unconfirmed though) that their are even numbers on the PS3 somewhere on it.

Idk i really dont get into this hype stuff any more. MGS is a amazing game but people like to go crazy over games like Guitar hero i don't think any one will be making a fortune off these limited editions especially on ebay since there would be 1000 fakes ones floating around for half of what you would want to sell them for

    Wikipedia.org
"A bundle containing an 80GB PlayStation 3, a DualShock 3 wireless controller, a downloadable game coupon from PSN and a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be released in North America for US$499 to coincide with the release of the standalone edition.[33]

A special edition of the game, titled Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition, is to be released simultaneously with the standard edition. The release will contain Guns of the Patriots, a box with artwork by Yoji Shinkawa, a Blu-ray containting two "making of" documentaries, and the game soundtrack. The Limited Editon will be available exclusively at Gamestop in the United States and EB Games in Canada; release dates for other regions have not yet been announced. [34]

Sony has also announced a limited editon pre-order bundle containing Guns of the Patriots, a Blu-ray video disc, a Metal Gear Online starter disc and a matte grey 40GB PlayStation 3. First announced in Japan on March 18, 2008 at a cost of ¥51,800[35] the bundle sold out within six days from March 20 to March 25.[36] The bundle has since been announced for North America as well, though it will be available in "very limited" quantities."

America and japan are getting the limited edition, while everyone else has to either go with out or order it from over seas. last time i ordered something from america i never got it. they better release the limited edition in australia, i'm a huge MGS fan

Whoever runs Kojima's hype machine is doing a great job, because I'm getting progressively more excited about this game between the previews, online starter pack features, and the april fools vid.

Once this game has launched, Sony should hire whoever is behind the PR to work as a go between for Sony and Square to start hyping the dual FFXIIIs because I think it'd pump up the PS3 in a big way.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPEN TO THE CREATOR OF THE PLAYSTATION BRAND GOT THE ARTICLE FROM TOP PREPS HERE IT IS: At 56 years of age, for someone to retire from a senior role like Ken Kutaragi's is almost unheard of in Japan. His removal from the top spot in SCEI is not a voluntary one; it is both a punishment for his own failures with regard to the PS3, and, by extension, an offering to shareholders angry at the losses sustained by the firm in the development of the console, and the negative press surrounding it. His head has rolled - perhaps pre-empting changes such as a price cut, perhaps merely as an act of contrition for past failures. Whichever is true, the Father of PlayStation has been put out to pasture.

The sad part of this tale is that Kutaragi will almost certainly be remembered more for his Crazy Ken moments than for the immense, lasting impact which he had on the videogames industry. He risked his career time and time again to pursue his belief that Sony should enter this industry, and was willing to put his own neck on the line in pursuit of a dream - perhaps not the dream of mass-market gaming, but at the very least, the dream which ultimately led to mass market gaming being a reality.

Kutaragi is not only the Father of PlayStation, but the father of modern console gaming. His fall from grace has been rapid, shocking, and yet almost entirely of his own making; an engineer at heart, he was ill-equipped to deal with the executive world which he tried to conquer. However, his contribution to this industry, and this medium, is undeniable. It's a sad fact that many people are remembered for their big mistake, rather than their many achievements - Gunpei Yokoi is still perhaps best known for creating the Virtual Boy, rather than the Game And Watch, the Game Boy or the ubiquitous D-Pad.

Kutaragi will never be loved like Miyamoto; he leaves no legacy of instantly recognisable characters and franchises, and his showmanship was always outspoken and arrogant, rather than humble and playful. However, we can hope that in a few years time, when the dust settles on the controversy surrounding the PS3, Kutaragi will be remembered not for the Emotion Engine or jacking in to the Matrix; not for working overtime to afford a PS3 or for the Xbox 1.5; but for having the courage to fight Sony's own management to create a console called the PlayStation, without which many of us simply wouldn't be reading a games website, and for the countless hours of enjoyment people around the world have had with his creations.

The limited editions seem pretty cool, but the extra content isn't really enough to make me want to go out and buy one. But, I don't even have a PS3, so I suppose it doesn't really matter. I like the normal black PS3 better, and I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find this extra content on the internet either...

darkride66, i agree with you, i own a 360, and if there was any reason for me to get a PS3, MGS4 would definately be it! dont burn me as im no fanboy, im simply giving my personal opinion. Just a shame that Kojima hadnt had MGS4 ready for the PS3 launch, i think it would have had a much stronger launch and provided the PS3 with the teeth it needed.
