Saints Row 2 rollin' onto PCs

THQ confirms its GTA-esque open-world auto-actioner will debut on Windows systems alongside PS3, 360 versions later this year.

PC gamers disappointed by the lack of a PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV are getting a consolation prize of sorts. Following product listings on GameStop, THQ reps today confirmed that Saints Row 2 is also in development for the PC. The recently delayed GTA-esque crime-action game had been previously announced for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Billed as darker than the semi-comic original, Saints Row 2 will return players to the fictional crime-overrun metropolis of Stilwater, a few years after the events of the first game, which saw the Saints gang take over the city. As a fully customizable male or female character, players will lead the Saints against three new rival gangs bent on seizing control of the streets.

Saints Row 2 will also offer a number of new features. Previously mission-based, online two-player co-op will now be extended to the full campaign mode, which will let a pair of virtual gangsters play through the entire story together. GameSpot's hands-on preview has more details on the game's co-op mode.

Saints Row 2 will ship for the 360 and PS3 on October 14. As for the PC version, a THQ rep would only say only that the GameStop product page--which has it shipping on October 14 for $39.99--"is accurate."

    i like all the news i have been hearing so far on saint row 2......cept for the delay, but id rather wait for a great game than to play a buggy glitchy game

    hemmm......the graphic looks nice maybe GTA4+Kane and Lynch=Saints Row 2 and that we may call great boomer for a free-roam experience......we just need to wait....buy.....and play to see its worth or not....

    IMO GTA4 plays like Kane and Lynch but in an open world, and that game sucked! The gunplay and cover system is awful in both games, but in addition GTA4 has awful car handling and and highly repetitive story! To sum up GTA4 is repetitive and boring, where as Saints Row 2 will be refreshing, FUN, and innovative! Bring it on and don't belive in all the BS GTA4 hype!

    i think people need to get cleared up, rockstar doesnt care if they put gta4 on pc because they made more money on the 360 and ps3 platform than thq will ever make with saints row on 3 platforms. They could care less about what you guys say because you guys are the minority who do not like the series. they made a sh*t load of money if you like it or not. GTA4 is the most sold product in the history of not only games but any product!! now you guys can keep bragging about your saints row but it will never replace gta, the original free-roam experience!!!

    that is great news... this year pc gaming did disappoint me.. even though i've ps3.. playing this genre of game with mod and more.. just so great... soon gta IV on pc just perfect for pc gaming.. nway still excited bout mgs 4 soon release.. this is ultimate reason gamer buy ps3.. hhahaha

    wow only 40 bucks i feel like im stealing it. I just saw a preview with all the side games you can play and the online is going to be amazing. I am really excited about this one. I think ill go with the ps3 version though and see how that one plays out.

    I'd rather get the 360 version. Cause if I get bored of it, I can just resell it way easier than it is to resell PC Games.

    Interesting. Until GTA IV gets ported in a year or so to the PC (just about as long as San Andreas took after console releases) this should be well worth it.

    Control is usually better on the PC, thanks to the keyboard and mouse setup, as well.

    I don't know if this has been said, but why bother putting a sequel of Saint's Row on PS3 when PS3 didn't even have the original. I don't have an Xbox, so why would I buy this if I've never played the first one?

    It has some big shoes to try and fill with GTA IV being so awesome. Oh $39.99 the price alone should sell this game. I was disappointed with the first Saint's Row but for $40 it's worth checking out.

    I was disappointed with GTA4 in many ways but I do think it's still a good game. I hope Saints Row 2 will not disappoint.

    GTA IV is coming out in October 2008 I saw it on a German website. But i'm not german! I saw the date* on 2 gaming websites** But I got a PS3 Special ED GTA IV.

    Chances are that SR2 on the PC will have the EXACT same controls as GTA III, VC did on the PC. People who have played them and the original Saints Row will know what I mean.
