This is Vegas folds 'til '09

Midway's Sin City sim won't make original release date; publisher says it needs the extra time to make it a must-have title.

As a de facto den of indulgence where long nights have been known to stretch into even longer days, Las Vegas doesn't necessarily encourage punctuality. With Midway Games seeking to recapture the total Vegas experience in its upcoming This is Vegas, it's not entirely surprising that the game won't be sticking to its originally announced release date.

A Midway representative confirmed for GameSpot today that This is Vegas has been delayed to 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. However, it will be appearing in playable form at the E3 Media & Business Summit.

"Midway is committed to developing and publishing the best quality products. It is important for us to make sure the game was given the development time needed in order to make This is Vegas a triple-A videogame and a must-have for all PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC owners."

This is Vegas is in development at Surreal Software, the studio behind The Suffering and its sequel, Ties That Bind. The game takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to the notorious Nevada city, depicting its many vices through open-world gameplay. In addition to the expected casino action, the game also lets players indulge in some spirited partying, which could segue naturally into another of the game's focal points, brawling.

    I'll be the Judge of it: "This is VEGAS" I live here in Las Vegas and all I do is Buy/Sell drugs, pimp-slap my prostitutes, gamble, beat the crap out people talking smack, and drive around nice cars.
    I wonder if the game will be anything like that...

    This game needs to be delayed indefinately. The entire idea behind is shallow. No one wants to play a simulated night-club experience. The type who would aren't into video games anyway. And to think this game was actually proposed by some game designer or company executive, went through board meetings and discussed by reasonably intelligent people... and STILL GOT THE OKAY to be developed.

    Dont forget have blond,chubby girlfriends. Oh and Fallout 3 will be fantastic, but you wont be able to feel a stripper and get into a fight with a bouncer in that game(I dont think)

    I never said to act like a choir boy. I also said that this is a free country. You like this game? Buy it. But let's point out the obvious. This "game" is a simulator. A douche bag simulator. And it will be a big hit with Guido's who spray tan themselves orange, wear too much hair gel and wear sunglasses indoors. I bet this game will even smell like booze, cigarettes and body odor drenched in cologne. But i'm sure it will give me a reason not to play actual games, like Fallout 3 and Fable 2 and Alpha Protocol and....

    Vegas is a hollow facade that tempts people with empty promises and delivers broken dreams. It's where hope goes to die. I don't even have to point out the humor of anyone paying for a video game version of that. Also, it speaks volumes about the kind of person you are or the person you want to become. Drinking, gambling, and brawling? Why don't they just call it "Douchetard: The Game"?

    If you actually buy this game, odds are you'll say one of these two phrases:

    "I can't afford to go to that city and get raped out of my cash so i'll just sit home and play the game i paid for..." or "I got into a bar fight there last weekend over something stupid, i have a court case pending and can't go there so i'll just play the game i paid for...."

    Moist layers of stupid with a creamy stupid center covered in a stupid candy shell. What i'm saying is this: This game = stupid candy for douchetards.

    But hey, it's a free country.

    This will be cancelled. i saw a video online and it is as boring as it sounds. They will cancel this game, they probably realize that it will not recoup their costs, even if the cost of production is obviously low. It showed a lot of activities: the dancing (probably the most involved part of it, but still wayyyyy simple and dumb, you should see the 70's style "moves") the bartending (zzzzzzzzz), fighting (also super simple, think punching in the ps2 GTA games, but simpler animations and no challenge), and the one I was waiting for, wet t-shirt contest: the video game knockers look the same as if you were playing tomb raider. if that makes you super horny, you must be named mario or sonic. all the minigames are terrible, just play the demo if you can if you are the least bit curious: TERRRRIBLE. a must have title this could never be, maybe they think that saying that will hype it to halo 3 hype . that shows how dumb these shovelware developers are

    They can't "make it R rated" because 1) that is not the classification that thye use for games and 2) the G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17 rating used by the MPAA are copyrighted. Besides, rated M (for Mature) is the exact same thing as being rated R (restricted to minors under 17 unless accompanied by an adult). If you mean you want the devs to take it to a more mature content level, that would be AO (Adults Only).

    It goes like this: E=G, T=PG-13, M=R, AO=NC-17

    because the game rating blows, look at mass effect it's got an M rating for what? a kiss?

    even porn gets rated 16, someone should be doing something against the unfair rating of games...

    Oh and whats so cool about vegas? There is nothing, and I mean nothing, more fun than getting up a 3am, going downstairs, and playing the slots with a drink or bowling a 4am. Fan****ingtastic!!

    The graphics in this game look pretty decent. For some reason i like to get games and just sit there observing the scenery O.o

    I love Vegas and would love to retire in a suburb close to there in 50 years so I can always stay young.

    But games delays have been good so far. Just look at MGS4 and GTAIV. And I expect good from Mercenaries 2 and this game. Sometimes, delays are worth it.

    I am a bit worried about this game.. vegas is not just about gambling and clubs... a large part of it is about the strippers.. Seeing as they would never show nudity and probably won't have strip clubs then suddenly this title is not a must have.. even with the extra time. They have to make the girls in the game look less CG like and a bit more realistic. I say scrap the Mature rating and make it R rated and do it properly. Vegas is all about getting limos with strippers, courting them and taking them back to your room.. if this game doesn't do this then i'm not buying it

    I was able to go to Vegas last summer and I loved it. Just the atmosphere and feeling of the city is great, and I think that if they can pull that off, this game will be worth checking out. If they need extra time to do it, that's fine by me.

    I think Haze is a good example of a game making no difference in interest despite being pushed back continuously. Considering that, The Suffering wasn't exactly a high rated game, it wasn't bad, but not great, but hey might as well give it a chance, it could be good.

    I hope they do a LOT of improving. I watched the trailer on xbox live and it looked ridiculous. Not wasting my time unless they release it at a affordable price-point.

    I work in a casino and it does get wild with crazy drunken perverts spending enough cash to payoff my morgage. My point is I will never be that guy but it'd be cool to play as him in a game. Sorry people crying to me because they can't beat the house at which ever game I'm dealing to them. Knowing they make enough money to buy whatever they wish. Anyway I got off subject, this game has alot of cool ideas. With The developers of The Suffering behind it, this game should be really good.

    This game sounds like it was developed by a bunch of crappy meat head mortgage brokers who thought their lives were cool enough to inspire a video game.

    I can appreciate taking the time to develop something of quality rather than rushing a new IP out of the door. However, this is Vegas will likely never be a must-have title for me, no matter how much time the publisher puts into it. Midway doesn't exactly have the greatest track record for making quality games over the past few years. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've thoroughly enjoyed anything published by Midway since NBA Jam: TE on the Sega Genesis.
