Unreal Engine fuels Ignition FPS

Publisher signs license to use Epic Games' tech in Xbox 360, PS3, and PC game from internal Florida studio.

Last year, Ignition Entertainment announced its expansion into game development with the founding of a new studio in Florida and another in Tokyo. Today, the first details of the publisher's foray into game making arrived when Ignition announced that it has licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 for the Florida shop's debut game.

Like the engine's namesake, the as-yet-unnamed game will be a first-person shooter. The game will be an original intellectual property and is set for release in late 2009. According to the studio's jobs page, it is in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Unreal Engine 3 has proven a popular choice for current-generation game development, having been incorporated by a slew of publishers and studios for games from Gears of War to Hour of Victory.

There are just too many FPS around and still coming. I think we need fresh stuff, more in the direction of Shooters which camera gets behind the character's shoulder (OK, not too original and THAT different from an FPS, but at least gives the game another sense, gives character new moves that on FPS aren't included). Anyway, a love FPS and another one is welcome

Interesting... I will keep my fingers crossed hoping that this title will be the birth of a new individual F.P.S franchise. And not a clone of all the others !

    To firebreathing,
You seem like a smart guy it is known officially , that ps3 has had trouble with the unreal engine. I know so because i'm friends with a dev who has put unreal engine in the 360 and PS3.
If you actually understood what pourya_ahmadian said you would know he is comparing the 360 to the PS3 not 360 to the PC (because they are brothers.) The games you named are on the PC not PS3!!

Also, SupCom wasn't bug ridden, i played it, it had no slow down, unless they were like 4874358 units on screen at once.
Firebreathing, why so defensive? is it cause you have NO life?

Hour of Victory. shows how even if you have a good engine you can still make a POS if you dont know how to use it. Frontlines wasnt so bad, was it?

hey pourya_ahmadian, how many 360 games have been utilizing DX10 effects??? Since the 360 is SOOOOOOOO powerful how come we haven't seen ANY games with physics as good as crysis?? No, the force unleashed does not count seeing as how pretty much everything vanishes before it even hits the ground and bad company is ust scripted as hell. I bet you're glad to hear your 'powerfull" 360 doesnt even have the video memory to keep breaking objects on screen for long Maybe you could show me some games that look as good as STALKER Clear Sky, Crysis, Supreme Commander (which was a bug ridden POS when ported to the 360) or anything that resembles ATIs scorpion cinemoa 2.0 demo??? It might be better if you just stfu and get over yourself, maybe then women might think you're not an immature insecure loser.

    Why even mention that abomination......?"

They are just saying that the Unreal Engine is used from top tier games like Gears of War to POS games like Hour of Victory.

Unreal Engine is not bad. I quite liked it. But I also liked the engine that was used to power Battlefield: Bad Company, I thought it was brilliant!

UT 04 was a redo on 03 they ahd a few years to get it right UT3 is not so bad but limited as to what it could have been...it could be alot worse...

FYI to the 360 fanboys the U3 engine runs better on the PS3 because fo the data streaming nature of the engine.

Now if only Epic had made their original flagship game, Unreal Tournament, as good as it should have been .... poor game got shafted so hard it looked like someone stuffed a broom up its rear end and lit it on fire .... and to think 2k4 was so amazing ....

I swear how many developers are going to be using this engine to power their games. I have no problem with them using it as it is a powerful engine but i would like to see other engines being used from other areas other than Epics'.

I think Infinity Wards engine, along with Dices Frostbite engine can compete directly with the Unreal Engine. I'm glad they updated it because it was starting to appear on lots of games. Some of them weren't worthy of the property, ie Hour of Victory. Gears 2 looks amazing though!!

    Posted Jul 7, 2008 5:32 pm GMT

GEARS FTW!!! jk jk, but anyways. A lot of companies are licensing the Unreal Engine because its the most powerful and most updated engine to date. If used correctly (For example, Gears and Mass Effect) You'll have a spectacular looking and playing game.

FPS is what sells. In a market saturated with FPS games this game has to be very innovative in order to get anywhere. Good luck next year because they are going to need it against the next Call of Duty by Infinity Ward.

Well, Bioshock sure used the engine right, in my opinion. I like to see games with the unreal engine just as much as i like playing them.
