Dead Space release warps forward

EA's survival horror shooter advances on announced street date a second time; 360, PS3 editions now due October 14, PC a week later.

When EA first offered gamers a date with Dead Space, the publisher seemed to have it right, slating the action horror title for the spookiest day of the year, October 31. That release date held until just last week, when EA made the surprise move of bumping the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of the game forward a week to October 21, leaving the PC edition alone to anchor Halloween.

Today, EA revises Dead Space's launch date yet again, with the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions due on October 14, with the PC edition following on October 20. As noted by EA, the new console release date gives gamers "a full 17 days before Halloween to step out into space for the fright of their lives."

Set in the far future, Dead Space transports players to the darkest reaches of the galaxy, where a recovery force is sent to investigate the mysterious happenings aboard an out-of-contact mining vessel. Taking the role of protagonist Isaac Clarke, players soon find themselves fending for their lives against a host of hostile aliens.

Wow, just wow.. I really hope they double checked for ingame bugs. And pc has right resolution options available.Im mostly worried that the game will be too hard to play - might do with controls setup and the default difficulty - Ive seen them die a lot in the vids, so I hope the game wont fate away in frustration.Otherwise - fingers crossed !

I don't know man some of the biggest titles failed recently. Because I had big expectations for Alone in the dark and merc2. So time will tell What will happen to Dead space.

I'm all for games coming out sooner, but the Oct 31st release date WAS actualy a good date to be released if it's a survival horror...

Doesn't any one else agree that the Oct 31st release date is what SHOULD be the release date for a horror game?

They moved up the release date twice? Looks like they're either really confindent in Dead Space, or they finished with production alot sooner than they expected. Either way, it's good news for us gamers.

I'm definitely buying this game. I'll probably reserve it Monday. Can't wait and I like when release dates are moved forward instead of the other way. October 14th can't come any sooner.

Their is so much prioritizing games this time around, I have moved titles around, its making me dizzy...any how, I'll figure it out on which games first to buy, etc.

Plan on renting this, maybe buying but Holiday is pretty packed to just buy every game. Hopefully they didn't rush it out with glitches a la Mercenaries 2.

I can't help but be hyped. I know it's under EA's flag and yeah, I don't trust them either. But, looking at the dev diary videos and seeing the guys that worked on it. Well, I don't know. They look like they really had loads of fun working on this. It's also not that large of a dev team in respect to other games. Also, based on what they said in the video, they completed 15 minutes of the game in only 6months! They had the rest of the dev time to hire more guns, lengthen, and polish the product.

Maybe it's cause I always root for the underdog, but I'm excited to get a game with so much potential from a team that's trying to work their way up from the bottom rungs of their company's ladder.

Who knows? We may be seeing the beginning of another Rockstar team or Hideo Kojima Productions company

I'll be getting this game at launch. A development team that has fun developing a product, means to me that I'll be having fun taking the ride they made for me

I guess this is one of the few that gamers should be thankful for in it being moved up as the later days in October will be heavily stacked on games and competition!

    Posted Sep 5, 2008 9:34 am GMT

It is a good thing they moved this game forward because although I have high hopes for this game, Fable 2, FarCry 2, and of course Fallout 3 (all releasing in October) is gonna take away a lot of the attention this game would have gotten because at least for me, once Fallout is released that will be the only game I'll be playing for awhile.

Only the console versions come out earlier. This can either be a bad sign, or a good one. The PC version may just be a crappy, hasty portover of the console versions, or they want to work on the porting over more. Actually, both are bad signs. The relative lateness of the release date for the PC version likely means they are having problems with it.

Hell might as well release right now at this moment... i mean hell, im probably going to be more into playing Fifa 09 anyways... thats about one of the few games EA does right. Madden got old a long time ago and NBA LIVE doesnt compare to Segas 2k. Anyways, Resident Evil and Silent Hill all the way... im still kinda excited about this game though

i dont trust EA's shooter's anymore. thanks to games like Mercinaies 2 and army of 2 i realised EA makes crappy shooter games, that dont have a very long fun factor...no more shooters from EA its a waste of my money..... i know Mercinaries is like a sandbox type of game but really tho the only good games EA ever make are sports games. if there was a good EA game that wasnt a sports game just tell correct me

I just hope that they are going to release a game that's not buggy and full of glitches by pushing up the release date.Deadspace looks promising, lets hope it delivers when it comes out.

The graphics in this game look good, the gameplay seems good. but I'm worried about pushing the release forward...We all know how that usually turns out. Bugs, glitches, bad storylines.....yea....

Hmm... a game with a release date shooting forward isnt often a good sign. I may be a sucker for hype, but its like this game just came out of the blue and is being released super fast. It makes me wonder if enough work has gone into it...

It doesn't matter what week they put this game on, it is getting trumped by the simple fact it is a less interesting game than the other 20 games coming out this time of year...

I still want to try it out, but it won't be until after this holiday season and maybe a price drop or two.

EA finally look to have got thier act together but i am still holding my breath, the parts we have seen of this game look awesome and very polished but i hope the rest of the game can hold its own too, and i would like to see EA supporting the community with updates and patches as and when needed, because this is where EA fail a lot of the time imo, but i think more "EA haters" are eating thier words with everyday. (dont let us down...again)

They probably want to get it out far enough ahead of games like Fable 2 and Fallout 3.
