Retail Radar: GTAIV PC skids to December 2?

Amazon, GameStop bump ship date for Rockstar Games' top-rated open-world action adventure two weeks beyond official November 18 launch.

In its two weeks on the market, Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 did more business than most other games could hope for over the course of their entire life spans. Take-Two and Rockstar are hoping to carry that momentum into the holiday season, given that they're releasing all-new downloadable content for the Xbox 360 edition as well as a PC version of the game.

However, gamers may have to wait just a bit longer to jump behind the wheel of Roman's taxi on the PC, if a handful of retailers are to be believed. Both Amazon and GameStop are now under the impression that the PC edition of GTAIV will be available on December 2, two weeks later than Rockstar's previously announced shipping date of November 18.

As has been proven innumerable times in the past, retailers are often fed tips by publishers so that they can properly allocate resources and promotional materials. Rockstar had not responded to GameSpot's inquiry as of press time.

Grand Theft Auto IV requires little in the way of explanation, and any perfunctory attempt would be trite at best. The game scored top marks from GameSpot upon its console release earlier this year. GTAIV went on to set a Guinness World Record for "the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment," having sold 3.6 million units and earned $310 million within its first 24 hours on the market. As of last month, the game had sold more than 10 million units worldwide.

lol i don't mind waiting for the game to get polished either. I wish I could move my holiday around rather than the release date of GTA4, that way I could play the game as soon as I hit holidays, lol.

Yeah.. I'm wondering when the Xbox 360 DLC will be released as well. It's suppose to be sometime in November or early December. I could care less about GTA IV for the PC. They can delay it until next year if they want. Hurry up and bring out Dragon Age. That and Starcraft 2 are the only things I'm really looking forward to for the PC.

Oh the PC version gets delayed? What about our damn DLC? Before GTA4 released wasn't Rockstar saying we would see DLC by late August? Then I heard beginning of November same time as Gears 2, well thats next week and still no word from Rockstar.

The last couple of weeks have been amazing for PC gamers. We saw the release of Fallout 3, Dead Space, Red Alert 3, etc. I doubt anyone will complain from this delay; it gives us a chance to refill our wallets, haha.

A two week delay is alot better then never. PC gamers should just be happy they are getting some sloppy 2nds from the consoles.

if this GTA was like San Andreas Multi on PC i would get it, but unfortunately i dont think it will be that fun.. the controls of vehicles were better in SA + VC than in GTA IV. Shame really

Rockstar had to build the platform first. GTA IV might have felt stripped down, but the next versions of GTA IV will keep improving as it did with GTA III.

I prefer developers to release "when it's done". Two weeks is no biggie, especially if it means a better game for the wait. Plus, I still need to finish Mass Effect...

so when is this 360 DLC coming? it's freaky they haven't even hinted at what it might be. should that worry me? i feel like if it was as awesome as they promised around launch time, MS would be shouting up a publicity storm already.

2 weeks? No problem. Makes sense that they'd push it deeper into the holiday shopping season which kinda starts early for some. Early as in this month. Anyway, December 2 is just a tad bit over a month away.
