What we heard: With the retirement of the infamous "Surfer Girl" last May, game news addicts have been searching for another leak-happy industry insider. They may have found one in Game Fork, the nom de tweet of someone claiming to be a well-placed "game journo." The person also appears to be British, since he claims to have "no links to Sony or SCEE"--Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, based in London--and follows Queen's English spelling rules.

Beginning last week, Game Fork has been twittering with a vengeance about a single subject: Microsoft's upcoming press event at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo. "MS is about to stun E3 with their lineup," crowed the shadowy figure, who claims to have visited Microsoft's offices on May 5.

According to the truncated, 140-character-limited posts, Microsoft will use its E3 press gathering, which starts at 10:30 a.m. PDT on June 1, to unveil the following:

--The all-but-confirmed motion-sensing camera controller for the Xbox 360, titled "Xbox Fluid."

--Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide, the long-rumored Xbox 360 port of the best-selling PlayStation 3 stealth actioner and GameSpot's 2008 Game of the Year. The announcement will be the finale of the presentation, apparently, although the game may the subject of Kojima Productions' May 18 mystery announcement.

--A top-secret Konami exclusive for the Xbox 360. "NOBODY outside of Kon[ami] has been told what this is," claims Game Fork. (Emphasis in the original.)

--The second Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable episode for Grand Theft Auto IV, subtitled "Blood and a Four Leaf Clover." The title may be a reference to the GTAIV mission Three Leaf Clover, where protagonist Niko Bellic helps Irish mobster Packie McReary and his brothers pull off a bank robbery straight out of the film Heat. It's apparently due "this Christmas."

--A new project from Peter Molyneux's Lionhead Studios (Fable II), code-named "Richter," previously rumored to be revealed at E3.

--The official unveiling of the long-known-about Forza Motorsport 3, which will apparently be playable on the show floor.

--After an extended period out of sight, both APB and Alan Wake will make appearances. Game Fork describes the former as a "GTA Killer" and the latter as "somewhere 'tween The Shining and Misery. VERY Stephen King. ... Graphically stunning, massively open, incredibly engaging...and ***t-pant scary." (Emphasis in the original.)

--The elusive Splinter Cell: Conviction will also be on hand in preparation for its release later this year

--Lost Planet 2, Assassin's Creed 2, and BioShock 2 will all be shown off, as will Halo 3: ODST, which was yanked from Microsoft's E3 2008 briefing at the last minute.

The official story: "Microsoft does not comment on rumors and speculation." --Microsoft rep.

Bogus or not bogus?: Although it comes from an untested source, the leak is a little too specific to be totally bogus. The world will see exactly how much is bogus in just 20 days. Just remember: The last time an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 was rumored, it turned out to be Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone.

listen i own both a 360 and a ps3,i do have to admit that the ps3 is superior, however,I still like my 360 better.the future of gaming is in multiplayer online and the 360 really kick ass on that.its so good that poeple pay for it.most games are on both platforms, the onlything that saves sony is God of war.great game but not enough to beat the 360 especially if mgs comes t the BOX

MGSR is multiplatform so its still PS3 who's on top.Kojimas right to keep it on PS3 too,why ruin a perfectly good franchise?
So all you 360 fools who think there better please go fornicate yourselves on rusty rods!

HEHEHEHEHEHEHE WOOHOO!!!!! http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2009 It's over and we get the super enhanced METAL GEAR SOLID: RISING for X360, a new game starring Raiden using lots of the MGS4 storyline!!!

Metal Gear Solid franchise hits 360! Agriato Kojima-san, we will buy any hardcore game that your team makes. All future Metal Gear Solid games need to be on both platforms. there ain't no reason to buy a ps3 for most of us, not because we hate it....because it's just too expensive for that. definitely a GREAT thing for gamers that metal gear is multi & all third party titles.

any konami exclusive we get I don't want to keep unlike what the ps2 did, we can at least be fair....time exclusives. 360 after all got REALLY good exclusives like alan wake, crackdown 2, forza 3 and lost odyssey + future lost odyssey 2.....we don't need front mission exclusively.....we got ALOT of great exclusive games out & coming including perfect dark.

Problem, Microsoft is actually buying companies from other platforms to create exclusives for THEM. They're trying to pull a monopoly to themselves just like they did with the PC, except that they can control the hardware and licenses on this platform, which makes them alot more money.

Proof? Like how Sony bought timed exclusivity for GTA on PS2?

Come on fanboys, you should stop acting like your gonna flip when you see console exclusives to be port to other consoles, it is a good way for gamers to have fun, don't think of just yourselves for just a sec and think of how good it would be for all gamers and the economy. Stop being so childish about it.

Some of you must be either real stupid, either childs who have no clue what they're talking about or both.
It's so sad that all fanboys exist....I have both the PS3 40gb version and the XBOX360 elite. To be honest, XBOX360 is better for playing games. Full stop. Besides the fact that upscales natively to 1080p, imo the games look better on the x360. However, the PS3 is fun and the exclusives are good games but not as good as you might think. If you still have any doubts about what console is more powerful, just google it and you'll soon find out. Just because ps3 is much more of a media center hub doesn't make it more powerfull at all. Remember that the PS3 CPU is in fact, one physical CPU and the other 7 "cores" are in fact something close to Hyper Threading (as you can see in the new i7 processors) as when the xbox CPU si a 3 phisical cores CPU. I'm no fanboy at all. But I hate it when PS3 fans pray to God all night that Kojima won't release MGS4 on the X360...I think you're all afraid you won't have a game to fancy with to a xbox 360 owner.

MGS4 is one of the greatest games I've ever played but it wouldn't bother me at all to have it for my X360 as well. Nor would bother me to have Gears of Wars 1 or 2 on the PS3. The fanboy-ism is just BS and all of you there should know this: it is only the gamer that looses.

Their lineup only exists out of overhyped games and stolen concepts. ( Wii Mote / Eye toy anyone?! ) The saddest thing is that they keep buying over game companies from PC / PS to make exclusive games for their own money making cow. Very low.

Instead of making a changing disc joke, they'll probably change it to a game installation joke.

  • Raykuza

    Posted May 31, 2009 6:26 pm GMT

I wonder what they'll do about the part where Screaming Mantis fails to vibrate your controller. And the part where Otacon tells you to change the disc. Some of the dialogue was written specifically to make PS3 jokes. It will be interesting to see how they break the 4th wall on the 360 version if they make it.

Why the 'Thumbs Down' to my previous comment? I did try to remain un-biased and only aimed to express my opinion whilst simply highlighting the fact that MGS4 was a massive success on the PS3, and in turn assuming it will be a success on the 360, therefore making Konami a truck load of ca$h, i didnt have a pop at MGS4 did i?, i understand its a great game technically, however as i said, its simply not my type of game.

  • thenephariouson

    Posted May 31, 2009 3:36 am GMT

Although the MGS games dont really interest me, you cant blame Konami for wanting to release MGS4 on the 360, as indications have already shown (PS3 sales & ratings) that it simply sells, they would therefore be rather silly not to want to release it for potentially another 20+ or so million gamers, thus re-energising the sales figures (and MONEY).

  • dunnsearch

    Posted May 30, 2009 11:45 am GMT

MGS4 will come to the xbox 360 and will sell more copies. Yes the game will come on 3-6 disks but so what? Infact it would be better as the xbox 360 reads disks faster which means the game will load in seconds on the 360, but on the ps3 it takes from 2-6 minutes just to load a part of the game!!! And yes the Xbox 360 has more than enough power needed to run this game at 1080p.

    @ thekey

I agree that MGS would be fun on the Xbox360, but right now I wan't Microsoft to do new things. They have some neat ideas with Banjo Kazooie nuts an bolts, I would like to see them do some more with Via Piniata, and I agree that Halo is not a truly inovatve title in anyway. Gears of War is fun, and dose some truly cool new things, but nothing completly mind blowing, Mass Effect is an action RPG thats true, and the next one is going to mix it up to the point where it will break some new ground for action RPGs.

I also agree that Alen Wake is a promising start for Microsoft, and that SpliterCell was even with it's faults an inovative and fun game that Microsoft should bring to the next generation of consoles. I also want them to do new things as well IE Section 8 looks like a great thrid party title gone Xbox360/Windows Live Exclusive, and I have high hopes for Microsofts new game makeing first party studio: (Somthing Sony has had going for years now, and Microsoft desprately needs)

    "cjohnson007:

As far as the whole MGS4 thing goes. History shows us that when a MG games is released there is a xbox version of it. So what if its comin out on the 360. I've never understood the whole fanboy deal with systems"

Sorry, but that's pretty much wrong. Out of all the Metal Gear games, only MGS2:Substance ever got released on Xbox, where it wasn't exactly well received. MGS1 got ported to Windows, though. And published by Microsoft Game Studios (MGS, get it?) no less. MGS3 was PS2 exclusive and MGS4 likely will stay PS3-exclusive. I mean, who the hell even wants to play it now? Everyone knows how it ends, everyone finished it a year ago. And then all the whining about how it's just an interactive movie. I doubt the efforts to port it would result in big sales, they'll do best in focussing on the next (multi-platform?) project IMO.

Oh, and the source of it this time is obviously bogus.

Looking at this article, the GTA DLC has been titled: "The Ballad of Gay Tony", which throws a lot of suspicion on this supposed insider.
The Camera controller has pretty much been confirmed, and Forza 3, Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed 2, Lost Planet 2, Bioshock 2 and Halo ODST have all been expected, due to them all being sequels (meaning anyone could've predicted that).
APB and Alan Wake have had so little info shown on them that something has to be revealed about them, or people will just lose interest (once again, anyone could predict this).
Top secret Konami project? Then it makes sense to wait for official news than to trust speculation, which also goes for the Lionhead rumour.
Finally, MGS4+O. Though it would be nice to have another Xbox MGS other than MGS2 Substance, it seems unlikely due to the new teaser site and Kojima's censored interview in Famitsu referencing the next game in the MGS series. Though I have no doubt that the 360 could run MGS4 (given multiple discs like Lost Odyssey), I wouldn't hold your breath. If you really want to play it, my advice is to wait for Sony to announce that it's dropping the price at E3 and by a low-spec PS3 (if you don't intend to use it).

Seriously though, stop with the fanboy debate! Wish there was a censor button to get rid of the Fanboy junk...

you are mostly all fanboys... you let your fanboy-ism get in the way of reality. Your opinions are clouded by the console in your living room, wehter it's Sony or Microsoft... or even Nintendo.

I on the other hand own both a 360 elite and a 40gb PS3. All you talk about is MSG4 for 360... well the FACT of the matter is.. MSG is pretty much done selling on the PS3 since it's been out for a year now and having it on 360 would more than DOUBLE their already impressive current sales.

MSG is the 3rd best selling PS3 game behind GTA4 and COD:MW
    (all according to VZCHARTZ.com)

    MSG4 copies sold:
    680,000 in Japan
    1,680,000 in North America
    1,680,000 in Other
    (4,040,000 total)

    PS3 consoles sold:
    3,220,000 in Japan
    8,610,000 in North America
    10,610,000 in Other
    (22,440,000 total)

According to those numbers (based on demographic):
    21.1% of Japanese PS3 owners bought MGS4
19.5% of North American PS3 owners bought MGS4
    15.8% of Other PS3 owners bought MSG4
    (18.0% on average)

    XBOX 360 consoles sold:
    1,060,000 in Japan
    17,380,000 in North America
    11,950,000 in Other
    (30,400,000 total)

If you use the same %'s for the 360 you get the following:
223,660 would buy it in Japan
3,389,100 would buy it in North America
1,888,100 would buy it in Other
    (5,500,860 total based on Demographic)
(5,472,000 total based on 18% average)

It would make it the 6th best selling 360 game behind Halo3, CoD:MW, GTA4, GoW and CoD:WaW

That would make it's combined sales about the same as Halo 3 on 360 which is still very impressive.

Why wouldn't Konami want that? It's common sense... It happened with GTA: San Andreas on PS2 and I believe it will happen again with MSG4.
