Alpha Protocol initiated for October 6

Sega and Obsidian Entertainment's wetwork-heavy stealth RPG dated for this fall on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Sega officially listed Obsidian Entertainment's Aliens-inspired role-playing game as KIA last week, but a similar fate isn't in store for the duo's other project, Alpha Protocol. Today, Sega announced that Alpha Protocol will be available in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 6.

Alpha Protocol weaves a story not unlike Robert Ludlum's popular Jason Bourne novels. The RPG's plot follows Michael Thorton, a secret agent who has turned rogue after being disavowed by his government. However, given that the game accommodates a branching storyline a la BioWare's sci-fi RPG Mass Effect, players can assume a variety of undercover personas, ranging from a suave James Bond-style spy to one like the maniacal Jack Bauer of 24 fame.

Obsidian is also at work on Fallout: New Vegas for Fallout 3 creator Bethesda Softworks. While not a direct sequel to Bethesda's well-received Fallout 3, New Vegas will stick to that game's RPG format.

This is a style I haven't seen anyone try yet.
It will either be awesome or an epic fail, so I am going to wait for the reviews.

It's a good storyline. We'll have to see how this one turns out with the review though. The Bourne Conspiracy was a great game surprisingly. I hope that this can be teh same.

@ GS calling this a stealth-RPG. You can play Alpha Protocol several ways. It has even been stated so by the developers themselves.

    Humorguy_basic,

Yeah, I know the importance of the world market. And, seeing how neither "The Witcher" nor "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." are North American games, I figure they'd sell better in Europe. Yet, I checked again, and the numbers I saw were world sales figures. In fact, "S.T.A.L.K.E.R."'s developer's Web site said that, as of last September, the game had 2 million copies worldwide. If you worked in the game industry, you might have access to some figures I don't. So, I could be wrong on this.

However, whether the "hardcore" RPGs you mentioned sold 1-2 million copies or 5-6 million copies worldwide, your point still stands. They were still immensely popular games. My point was simply that the lower sales of "Mass Effect" and "Jade Empire" might not be a result of their being "dumbed down." Like you, I do not expect "Alpha Protocol" to score more than an 8.0 with most media outlets. That by itself doesn't necessarily mean that the game will not sell well; both "The Witcher" and "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." received similar scores and still sold well. I think a greater disadvantage for "Alpa Protocol" is that it is new IP from a relatively new (at least in its current form) developer.

By looking down this thread, any person complaining or saying this game is not good, or bringing up earlier PC RPG's to show where it's lacking, etc has got negative marks. This shows console gamers are the majority posters in this thread, like most threads, and are anti PC and anti hardcore PC type gaming. As they are now the vast majority and are supported by the media and industry to the exclusion of everything else (IGN has a retro section and has tabs for the 'popular machines'. NES is there, PSX is there, but no PC),I see no point making any more arguments. This statement will get positive comments from others like 'good riddance' and will probably get positive ticks. History books are written by the victors.Console gaming has won the war and so will write how it all happened 20 years ago to today.
