Fez leaps onto Xbox 360 in 2010

Polytron confirms console version of anticipated multidimensional platformer set for next year.

Last year GameSpot nominated Braid and World of Goo as contenders for its Game of the Year awards. The games were developed by indie developers, and despite the smaller teams behind them, both were critical successes.

The next big indie hit is anyone's guess, but one developer will be throwing its "hat" into the ring soon. Polytron's highly anticipated platformer Fez has been given a rough release date of 2010 and a new platform on which to win fans. The date and confirmation that the title was coming to the Xbox Live Arcade were announced on the developer's blog, though details on the expected PC version were not forthcoming.

Fez is a platformer built entirely using Microsoft's XNA tools. It takes the form of a 2D platformer but adds a third dimension and the ability to rotate the gameworld around playable character Gomez. The game also has a unique retro 8-bit pixel art style, along with a suitably retro soundtrack.

    I guess the music is polarizing for people.. to me it fits the theme of the game, a well balanced mix of classic gaming with new technology. Maybe you had to grow up on the Apple IIGS and the Nintendo like I was but the music to me is meaningful, symbolic, and can be quite powerful. It worked in games like Mega Man II and the Goonies, it worked in games like Passage, I think it will work in Fez. Trust the developers.

    Unfortunately the only aspect of these 'retro' type games I can't stand is midi music... unless the game truly is a retro game I have a hard time getting past it. I hated it on R-Type dimensions, I hated it on this preview too.

    There just isn't any reason to have 'bit' music anymore. Especially with sites like ocremix out there that can take old crappy music and remix it into something listenable.

    If you're going to bash a console like that, you should actually back yourself up. Otherwise you look really dumb for saying things like that. Besides I'd like to see this list of games that are in the 90% of games that suck on the 360.

    Back to the game, it looks very interesting. Braid was a very good game so I'll have to check into this one too when it comes out.

    The game looks real old school witht he boxy graphics...like original Duke Nukem style, but with a flash of 3D. It's hard to explain, but it has some charm to it that I can't shake.

    that 90% you are talking about are the games that are all cross platform for both PS3 and Xbox, the other 10% are freaking sweet, just as PS3's exclusives are, however, Nintendo's exclusive list blows both systems out of the water.
