Kingdom Under Fire II igniting 360 in 2010

Blueside eschews PC edition's MMOG element for Microsoft console version of long-running action RTS, due late next year.

Blueside's Kingdom Under Fire franchise has built its reputation on its action real-time strategy gameplay mechanics, but the Korean developer has of late been keen on branching out. In January 2008, Blueside released Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom and has had less-than-stellar results. That same month, the game maker announced that Kingdom Under Fire II for the PC would return to its action RTS roots, but with a massively multiplayer online twist.

Today, Blueside signaled a return to the action RTS genre proper, saying the Xbox 360 edition of Kingdom Under Fire II will resemble 2004's and 2005's well-regarded Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders and Heroes. Like the PC game, Kingdom Under Fire II for the Xbox 360 is being codeveloped with Phantagram and is expected to launch during the back half of 2010.

Blueside was light on specifics, not even mentioning a publisher for the game. (Microsoft published previous installments appearing on its console.) However, the developer noted that the game will once again feature large-scale battles, with "thousands of soldiers engaging in intense combat and all being vividly displayed [on] one screen." The game will also feature more than 100 unit types, as well as a host of new heroes and enemies.

Kingdom Under Fire II will feature a "conventional Action RTS Multiplayer mode" in lieu of the PC game's MMOG element. Blueside also stated that the game will see premium downloadable content postrelease that will introduce new customization options and other enhancements.

Blueside gave no update on when its PC MMOARTS counterpart would see release, though the game was initially slated for 2009. For more on the PC game, check out GameSpot's interview with producer Sang Youn Lee from earlier this year.

    Glen's a half elf, therefore is immune to ageing.

    Doesn't make much sense to me. Gerald and Ellen had a son, Glen. This takes place 150 years AFTER the events in The Crusaders, and Glen is clearly depicted.

    No PS3 ?! No way in hell I would buy a Xbox 360 just for that game.... I guess I'll have to pass since I'm no PC-Gamer as well... Just sad, the game looks awesome! I can't play any games without the Dual Shock so...

    @Castlevania1986

    Are you retarded? You think Mircrosoft hasn't developed a rechargeable battery pack for the xbox controller?

    Lol take your PS3 Fan boy jealous a$$ outta here and go play your 3 good games on the PS3. Face the facts both consoles are practically the same in performance theres little differences Oh booohoo my graphics are 0.03% less quality as yours Im going to kill myself now. Its the quality of game play not the graphics you goof open your eyes.

    I prefer this on the PS3, at least the controller has a recharger. So I can play it for hours and not even give a sh*t about batteries dying out on me. Not to mention the graphics could juice out the full power of the PS3 console. Give it that MGS4 look. But I've seen the gameplay trailers and it still looks a damn good game even on the 360 console which doesn't have many games with Next Gen graphical designs.

    FINALLY!!! Yes! The only thing that has come close to KUF:Crusaders and KUF:Heroes was Ninety-Nine Nights (and to a far lesser extent, Warhammer:Battle March)... Bring it on!

    @maddenBowler10

    It is, but at the same time it's an RTS. Its a game where you control your untis and what they do, but you also playa hero in the middle of everything. It looks very cool to me

    Madden, if it's going back to the original gameplay of Crusaders and Heroes (which I hope it does), then it will be both. You would command your units on a battlefield from overhead and can zoom into the action and control your general and fight with him.

    Let's just hope this is an actual game instead of the crapjob that was Circle of Doom. Terrible gameplay balance, mostly useless skills and a ridiculously bland storyline.

    The trailer was great. Now we'll just have to see if the game holds up to it's standards.

    Aww...I was looking forward to that MMO element. Oh, well. Original was great, just needed more content and replay value.
