Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta descends Aug. 3

Bethesda reveals release date for final add-on to post-nuclear RPG, along with new screenshots and gameplay information.

Bethesda had been tight-lipped on the details of its alien-abduction-themed add-on, divulging only its name, Mothership Zeta, and a few scant details. However, the developer has finally beamed down some vital information surrounding this fifth and final update pack, announcing the title will go downloadable on August 3 for the Xbox 360 and PC for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

In an update to the official Fallout 3 Web site today, Bethesda revealed that Mothership Zeta would allow players to recruit an "unexpected array of characters" to help overtake an insidious alien vessel that abducts the protagonist. With the help of new equipment--like the Alien Atomizer, Drone Cannon, Gemini-Era Spacesuit, and Samurai Armor--the hero can commandeer the UFO before it wreaks havoc on earth and its irradiated inhabitants. The developer's announcement also comes with several new screenshots of Mothership Zeta.

The most recent update Fallout 3 update, Point Lookout, was released without a major hitch on June 23. That can't be said for some of the previous add-on releases, like Broken Steel and The Pitt, which were hampered by crippling technical problems at launch. Mothership Zeta will be the final add-on to be included in the Fallout 3: Game of the Year edition, which will package all five expansions with the original game. The edition will cost $50 for the PC and $60 on the Xbox 360 when it ships in October--one month after the PlayStation 3 begins receiving the expansion packs.

    When my Xbox is fixed I'll get all the DLC for Fall Out I don't got yet including this one. Can't wait.

    Oh yeah Bethesda; I'm waiting for the new Elder Scrolls even though I still have to complete the main story in Oblivion (spend almost 40 hours doing other stuff).

    Damn dirty aliens they blew it all up! Always knew there was no war, no nuclear fallout, just an alien conspiracy.

    I'll think I'll wait for the GOTY edition to come out, even then, once it does I'll wait until it gets cheaper.

    didnt really like point look out, thought it was a bit bland and boring. this however looks a lot more fun.

    i love fallout 3 and have been impressed and pleased by the expansions so far, so i'm really looking forward to this one. Though it does kind of suck to have to pay all the while knowing they're releasing a same-priced GOTY edition; but I support their work and want em to hurry up and make something amazing with the next Elder Scrolls, so i don't mind that much haha

    Beth needs to make a full blow expansion like the Shivering Isles or a Fallout equivalent. That would be awsome, a new world roughly 4 times the size of Point lookout. There is no doubt they will though.

    Agree with ya 100 fold. Whine whine whine. If the game sold 10 copies do you think they would plan for DLC? Doubtful. They didn't know it would do so well all they could do is analyze that it would and plan their DLC from there. Now you whine that Bethesda could not predict the future. Maybe they should have just pushed the game back until August and made everything as one package? Well then you would complain about the pushbacks. No middle ground.

    Ah well! I have both + I own Fallout 3 on the 360, so I guess I escape biting the bullet of not having the DLC's.

    The full game plus all 5 expansions for $60!?!? Well that sucks for people like me who paid full price for the game and the expansions. That's a little messed up. They should've at least made all the DLC cheaper.

    I've yet to buy any of these on the PC ver..I'll keep waiting until they combine them in one large download together and the price is worth it.

    @lewser5

    Easy...buy it the day it ships...ignore all the DLC...then trade in the original for $45 and pick up the GotY edition with all the extras for $60...best of both worlds as you get to olay it when it first ships and then pick up all the extra content for $15.

    What is with all the people complaining about to much DLC? Holy christ, gamers are the whiniest people on the planet. They'll whine if you don't give them enough DLC (Left 4 Dead) and then they'll whine if you give them a large amount of DLC.

    I for one am happy for the DLC, and hope there will be more coming.

  • lewser5

    Posted Jul 15, 2009 7:28 pm GMT

    Sometimes i wonder why i buy the game when it comes out, when i know there is going to be dlc and probably be released again later with a GOTY edition with the content for the price of the game itself.

    @jgh94, you will be abducted after being drawn to the original alien crash site from the main game (if you found it) by an unintelligable radio transmission which turns out to be the mothership investigating the distress signal from recon craft theta that you can find crashed in the wasteland along with an alien corpse and a lovely alien blaster.

    This is why if the game comes out on both systems...I only buy the 360 version. My PS3 is for only PS3 exclusives.
    On the DLC, I'm in to deep, I have bought so many of the DLC for this game, I can't stop now!!!

    I own a 360 so I shouldnt be speaking for the PS3 guys here. But as a Fallout 3 fan I have to say why the hell do they keep putting off the DLC dates for PS3, I mean at least put out Broken Steel so these guys can at least play past the ending ( and the level cap is a big plus)

    Boo...I've been waiting for DLC for my PS3 forever and they keep pushing it back, bummer. I wonder though if there will be ammo for my alien blaster so I can actually use it on mothership zeta???
    guess I'll just revisit some Fallout 1 and 2 until I can finally get some PS3 DLC...no school like the old school, they say.

    @Murrdox

    In Fallout 3 you could find a crash-landed flying saucer with an alien in it (along with one of the most powerful weapons in the game: the alien blaster)

    The DLC should also be sold in one pack. I am fed up with Gold or GOTY or whatever editions having things I cannot get for my original bought game. After all, it's our money early on that pays for the later DLC and GOTY, etc editions!

    Definitely agreed with Camikitten. I don't mind a delay for us PS3 on DLC if it means a slightly improved product by the end of it all (besides, who's the idiot downmarking all the PS3 related comments? DO we have a troll on the loose again?)

  • drangel_jam

    Posted Jul 15, 2009 7:31 am GMT

    I love this game but the flow of DLC is too much to bear and pay. By then, there will probably be about 5-7 DLC's. I've already bought the first two. I'll wait for the Goty edition or whatever, with all of the DLC, instead of spending $10 on each one of them, and filling up my HDD with more than 5GB of Fallout 3 content.
