This morning, Sony headlined its GamesCom press conference with the long-rumored debut of the PlayStation 3 Slim, saying the streamlined 120GB device would be available worldwide during the first week of September. The conference was reminiscent of Sony's 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference, if only because the publisher used its time in the limelight to unveil a similarly spoiled overhaul for its handheld, the UMD-less PSP Go.

When the PSP Go launches on October 1, it will do so alongside Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo PSP, a game that was first teased way back in 2004. Today, Sony announced a plan to incentivize early adopters of the new handheld, saying that those who register their PSP Go between October 1 and October 10 will receive a free copy of Gran Turismo PSP. Gamers can also pick up a free copy of Gran Turismo PSP by preordering Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3.

Unfortunately, Sony US has confirmed to GameSpot the Gran Turismo PSP/Gran Turismo 5 preorder deal is valid in Europe only. "The offer is not valid in all other territories," a Sony rep told GameSpot. The rep did not indicate whether other regions would receive their own, unique incentives.

I will believe it when I see it. Got a PSP-1000 6 years ago for GT Mobile. Got a PS-3 and pre-ordered GT 5, due within 12 months. In the mean time XBOX 360 has released, Forza 2 has released, Forza 3 has released. Spoiled Sony got what, Prologue out the door. Hate Microsoft... but Sony you are just messing it up! Next gen will be Microsoft and Forza for me. Even this story appears to pure fiction. Anyone know where to order GT5 and get GT/PSP free? Thought not.

I really dont see the PSP Go being a success. The PSP hasnt exactly had the support and purchases sony thought it would get, and simply rejigging it and adding an extra £140 to the Price is a recipe for disaster. Especially as a PS3 is gonna be around the same price. Sony should of released an iPhone killer that incorporated PSP, Walkman, VAIO, Sony Sat Nav and Sony Ericcson brands into one device. I thinks its an attempt to root out PSP Piracy, although I think the Go will be cracked also. People are not gonna pay that much for a device that is essentially doing the same thing it was 6 years ago.

I don't care that GT5's taking forever. A game every 4/5 years like with MGS or GTA just means it'll be amazing and full of detail.

I can only say its a good thing, considering how europe always got the short end of the stick of anything related to videogaming. At Least we get some form of compensation for once...

Good deal this. Europe and especially the Brits always get the short end of the stick so getting freebies like this once in a while would be great

Listen to SciFiCat on this one. As Americans, we are spoiled freakin' rotten on so many accounts, while Europeans are screwed over, left out or plain ignored (Canadians too, but that's for another time). 'Tossin' them a frickin' bone here' shouldn't be that big of a deal.
