BioShock 2, Mafia II, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 due before July 2010

Take-Two CEO says triple-A quartet all slated to appear in five-month window starting next February; confirms Project Natal, PS3 motion-controller support.

For a while there, it looked like Take-Two was in for a busy holiday 2009 season. However, beginning with BioShock 2, and continuing with Mafia II and Red Dead Redemption, Take-Two and its subsidiary Rockstar Games pushed a number of key titles into the publisher's 2010 fiscal year, which runs November 1, 2009, through October 31, 2010.

As part of a post-earnings conference call today, Take-Two CEO Ben Feder said that gamers can expect to see all three anticipated titles, along with Rockstar Vancouver's Max Payne 3, ship during the first half of 2010, but after January 31. (Rockstar has previously stated that Max Payne 3 is due this winter.)

"We are continuing to evaluate the optimal release window for these titles and still plan to release all four titles in the first half of calendar 2010," Feder told analysts today. "At this point, we don't expect any of these titles to launch within our first fiscal quarter ending January 31, 2010."

Feder also fielded an analyst's question concerning Microsoft's and Sony's upcoming camera-based motion-sensing technology, both of which were unveiled during the hardware makers' respective E3 2009 press conferences. According to Feder, while commenting on unannounced games was out of the question, various Take-Two studios are toying around with the tech.

"Those dev kits are embedded in all of our studios, or just about all of our studios, and everybody is working with them to try to figure out new ways in which we can innovate and create the kind of concepts that this company is famous for," he confirmed. "So, yes, we are working on it."

Last week, Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai said that the PlayStation 3's motion-sensing tech should emerge in spring 2010. Microsoft has yet to attach a date to the launch of its own motion-sensing add-on--codenamed Project Natal--though industry-watchers seem to agree that the device will also be available next year.

i'm with all of you that want red dead to not be released last of the bunch. mafia can take that seat in my humble opinion. bioshock 2, though i'm very excited for as I loved the orig., i am very hesitant on as well with it's dev. being soo rocky.

ya, i think Red Dead Redemption is going to blow peoples socks off. The Wild West is in a man's blood, who better than Rockstar to gives us what we so desire in the ways of the wild west!!

I only hope R* dont mess up Max payne 3, i hope they treat it with the same amount of respect and TLC as Remedy, this is not GTA, so therefore expect every weapon to have its own unique sound and feel.

Also cant wait for Red Dead and Bioshock 2.

Bio is going to be insanely fun. I hope Max Payne ain't screwed up by having different owners, and Red Dead is looking pimp. Crazy that they got pushed back but its all for the better, I wouldn't want to release around Modern Combat either.

Red Dead Redemption all the way. This is gonna be a completely different game to what anyone has ever seen before. If it is half as good as it looks, I think RDR could be a surprise best seller of 2010. Fingers crossed that both bioshock and max payne can live up to the hype aswell.

They should not delay Bioshock 2 for the PC and 360 just because it's taking that much longer to develop for the PS3...(deep down you know it's true)...

I'm interested in Red Dead and somewhat is Bioshock 2, but I'm more curious about what's going on with Max Payne 3. It doesn't look anything like Max Payne, so I'm iffy and wondering why it's a sequel to the series and not just a new IP.
They did make Bully though, and that was more fun than many of the games I've played lately, so I'd like to see what they're doing.

This Holiday season will feel little incomplete without Bioshock. But we still have L4D2, COD MF2, RE 5 PC & Assasins Creed 2, Batman AA and Serious Sam HD. This holiday season will gonna be great!

Bioshock had incredible production but I hope the sequel has deeper gameplay, im excited about the multiplayer. To be honest im most excited about the new Max Payne game, it was a qaulity series, great story, a sense of humour and solid gameplay. It'll be interested to see the new locations and how the game handles being out of the classic noir setting. Pity about these game being so far away but hey, guess I can handle playing MW2 till then :p

Final Fantasy is going to outsell anything ever made? If I'm nice and don't make a fool out of you for saying anything, including Big Macs and the like, then I would just consider games and say this: Well that would mean it would have to sell over 47 million copies. Considering there are only about 50 million Xbox 360 and PS3s, the xbox version doesn't come out in japan and UK's release won't come until late 2010, I don't think so.

I doubt they're holding back because of other games holliday release dates... why? final fantasy comes out spring (same timeframe as these games) and thats gonna outsell anything ever made.... i'll definately be picking up RDR and BS2 (and FF13)

    @Mandalore_15

Thats's not what i meant. There are a lot of people tht did not pick up Bioshock as they did not feel that the genre of the game was for them. I was one of them. I only picked it up when i traded it in for my Crysis copy and even then i was sceptical. It turned out to be a great game. So i will give 2 a try as well.

take-two is fracking irritating. they honestly think if any of there games comes out with any sort of competition they wont sell any of there games witch is stupid, anyone who is going to buy any of there games is going to buy there games regardless of other games set for launch at that time. MW2 will sell a ton of copy's and so will all the games that people find fun or compelling to play.

bio-shock was a gorgeous game, and really eerie. it just wasn't my kinda game as far as the game play was concerned. bio-shock ended well, and i hope number 2 doesn't infringe upon that story. is it just me, or does that sort of combat not seem that fun for multi-player?

  • BigDaddy973

    Posted Sep 2, 2009 12:51 pm GMT

I cannot wait for Bioshock 2! I am so happy!!!!!!!!! It will be amazing! I like how they have not shown any of the "game" footage but seperate stuff they built for showing.

I really enjoyed the original Bioshock, and when I heard another was coming out I was pretty excited. After watching this video, though, my excitement has really waned. It looks more and more that it is going to simple be the same game with slightly better graphics. The first game was pretty innovative, but this one really looks like it's going to fall short in both plot and gameplay.

I'm okay with delays if it means the game(s) will turn out better. With this news it looks like my holiday budget season is now set for Dragon Age: Origins and my summer budget for BioShock II.
